Since I am reviewing specifically on my frozen custard experience (and not the hot food), this review might be a little different than what the other reviewers had to say. Therefore, this takes me on a trip to the small city of Olive Branch, Mississippi where I had the opportunity of trying out "Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers". I am no stranger to Freddy's as I have been to a couple of their locations many years ago.
Located directly on Camp Creek Rd., this particular Freddy's is surrounded by a ton of eateries in the area while neighboring an "Abbays" and a "Chick-Fil-A". Parking is fairly easy to find as my visit which was during the evening of Saturday 9/25/2021, there was quite a few empty spaces. However, the inside was quite busy as I witnessed several families all enjoying some good old comfort food. There is also a convenient drive-thru in case you don't wish to exit your vehicle.
On the inside, this place was very well-lit, spacious, and quite inviting. It gives you that feeling of being in a nostalgic 1950's diner complete with fire engine red chairs and booths while the floor tiles are black and white. There is also an area where you can buy custard, cakes, and pies to go as well as other condiments including their very own fry sauce and fry seasoning. Finally, there are two public restrooms located at the rear side of the building.
Since I was already quite full from eating a big dinner a couple hours prior to coming here, I came here specifically for some frozen custard, a southern staple. I decided to go with a mini size of one of their most popular desserts, a "Signature Turtle Sundae". This sundae consists of fresh & creamy vanilla custard, hot fudge, hot caramel, toasted pecans, & whipped cream. Since this was a fairly easy item to make, my sundae was ready within a couple minutes.
Overall, my sundae was above average. What I like about custard vs. ice cream is that the consistency is smoother while the taste is sweeter with heavier use of sugar, eggs, and cream. When you factor in the sweet pecans (for the crunch factor), the hot caramel, and hot fudge, everything pulled together quite effectively. With that said and done, I am giving "Freddy's Frozen Custard" an above...
Read moreDrive thru was super slow, 30+ minutes, but it was worth the wait. Food was hot and delicious. I ordered a patty melt but received a regular cheeseburger - it was delicious, just not what I wanted. It was pouring down rain and we were already back on I22 before I realized it was wrong - no turning back. The onion rings were sooo fine dipped in the spicy Freddy sauce.
Update: 4/18/25 Stopped in on our way through OB, my daughter wanted some cheese curds. She ordered a plain chicken sandwich combo with cheese curds and a drink, the cashier rang it up as a Chicken Club combo and then put plain, it was nearly $2 more than the spicy chicken which was just a plain chicken sandwich - the club came with bacon, Cheese, tomato and lettuce - none of which she wanted so why should we pay for it. So I asked the cashier to ring it up as a plain chicken sandwich, the attitude came out, the glare, the huffing breathing, the hand on the hip, the smart mouthed "I did". So I asked her if they had a simple chicken sandwich and she said the spicy one was that way. So I asked if they can make a spicy sandwich without the spicy chicken and just use the regular chicken? So again, I got the looks, sighs, and she tapped a few buttons to change the order in the computer, then turned and got one of the cooks attention telling her to leave off the spicy sauce for the spicy order coming, the cook just said OK. It definitely was an easy chat between those 2 and I have no idea why it warranted the attitude and downright turdiness. I placed the rest of my order, she told me my order was $25.xx and I said I thought I had a reward, so I scanned my qr code in my app, she didn't say anything, so I fumbled around the app and found the $10 off rewards and asked her to apply it, again with the sighing and huffing, she pushed some buttons and told me to scan my phone again. I paid and we sat down and waited for our to-go order to come out. Someone else brought our order out and we grabbed our sauces and drinks and left. The food was hot, delicious and made right. I was a bit worried after the interaction I had with the cashier. Needless to say, it might be a little while before we stop at this...
Read moreDisappointing Experience - Unhygienic, Poor Service, and Management Failures in Memphis Area
I’ve had enough of the Freddy’s locations in the Memphis area. It’s not just this one location—based on my recent visits, it seems like the cleanliness, service, and management problems are a widespread issue in this market.
From the moment I walked in, it was clear that cleanliness and customer service were not a priority. There was mold in the fry sauce, custard on the floor, and the floors were dirty. The restaurant had dust everywhere, dirt on the walls, and filthy windows. The tables were sticky, and the bathrooms were disgusting. Even the parking lot had trash scattered about.
The lack of proper hygiene was concerning, too. Employees weren’t wearing gloves or aprons, and I noticed particles in the drink machine and grease on the bag when I received my food. These are basic food safety violations that should never happen.
As for the service, it was just as bad. I waited 9 minutes in line with only one car ahead of me, and still received the wrong order. My steakburger wasn’t made correctly, and the food was messy and sloppy. The staff was rude, and there was only one supervisor trying to manage things—clearly, not enough to keep up with the demand.
What’s worse, this isn’t just an isolated issue at one location—it’s happening across multiple Freddy’s stores in Memphis. The poor service, dirty conditions, and lack of oversight point to a much bigger problem with management in the Memphis area. It’s clear that the leadership, both local and corporate, isn’t addressing these recurring issues.
I won’t be coming back, and I highly suggest you avoid the Memphis Freddy’s locations until they get their act together. This isn’t just a one-time problem—it’s a pattern that needs urgent attention from upper management.
Also to add to the issue I visited the location on a previous date and the lettuce was ice cold with ice chunks in it.
Also, I got a lettuce wrap and it was wrapped like a burrito.
Avoid Freddy’s in Memphis until they fix these...
