Aloha Açai Cafe — Restaurant in Olympia

Came in for the first time for their “grand opening” today. I was really excited because I love açaí and it’s on my way to work BUT was very disappointed for a number of reasons…

1.) That I was handed a $16 bowl straight from the fridge despite there being about a dozen people working who could have made something fresh. The bowl was good but not at all worth the price to me, especially if it just came out of the fridge… It was not busy.

2.) Their choice to only offer plastic. Bowls themselves are straight up clear plastic and the cutlery is only “commercially compostable.” (Not compostable.) New plastic is killing us and our planet. This is not healthy.

3.) NO evidence anywhere that this is not blatant cultural appropriation of Hawaiians. That’s exponentially more harmful especially given the current/actively occurring displacement of Hawaiians.

I’ve had plenty of these in paper bowls, with wooden spoons, served with REAL aloha, unlike this disheartening location. I hope this business’s owners educate themselves and learn to do better. Until then, we won’t be back!

I think we’re both on the same page here and hope you are able to hear my message that as a patron of your establishment, I could not tell whether or not I was supporting the friend (Hawaiians, who I love/respect) or the enemy (colonizers/cultural appropriators) and I assumed the worst so, again, I am sorry for that and am glad that is...

I went on Wednesday and came back on Friday because the açaí was soooo good. The fruit so fresh, the granola so tasty and the açaí sorbet a perfect in texture. I didn’t know açai bowls could be this delightful! I ordered the matcha mango bowl and was able to easily substitute any allergy ingredients. The person who helped me and took my order was calm and friendly. The bowl itself was delicious. It was fresh, bright, and delightful to eat. Every bite had something amazing about it.
