What an awful experience. I walked in and asked the counter if they had sticky buns. The young boy and girl working were very confused and rude about my question. They mentioned in a snobby response they have "sweet rolls" so I let them know I was sorry for the wrong name I was just asking if they had them. I then said I would get back to them as I also wanted to order a sandwich. While I'm reading their menu (with no one behind me) the lady rudely asks what I want. I place my order and I look over at the drinks. Another lady then asked, "Have you been helped?" I replied yes! She said ok go over the cashier where they ring you up. I was so caught off guard I felt the need to ask permission if I could please pick my drink first. Then I wait to be rang up by Jamie who is completely distracted by her family that showed up. I let her know I wanted items from the bakery. She makes me feel completely rushed while I order a few items. I ask about a brownie and decide on that brownie. She then grabs not the one I saw in the case- she intentionally avoids the one I was pointing at and gave me one that was less than half the size of the one I saw and the one I was requesting. All the while the behind the counter staff were complaining about accepting a counterfeit $20. They want to post a sign outfront, "we do not accept counterfeit bills" How awful. Every one of them. It completely ruined my experience with Wagners and I will always share this poor poor customer service with everyone who suggests Wagners. I would never want anyone to experience what I...
Read moreConsistency! This place has lots of it.
Let me clarify.
The smells are inviting, the atmosphere is comfortable, very clean, and pleasant to gaze at while eating. The prices are good for the quality of the food, and, oh, the food! The grilled two meat two cheese avocado sandwich I always get is perfect. The salads and soups are fresh and flavourful. The coffee is tasty and the baked goods are heavenly. I always receive my order in five minutes or less.
Why not five stars, then?
It is appalling that a place so otherwise perfect has such (consistently!) unpleasant customer service. There must be only one polite, helpful employee here, and unfortunately, she will not make your food or swipe your card. The employees serving you will not give you eye contact. They will interrupt you while you order, several times. They are inattentive. I was asked if my order was "for here" four times in three minutes (but they won't make eye contact while they ask!). I do not receive smiles.
I get it -- we all have bad days, and customer service is soul-sucking. But geez, my waiter today placed my food across the table from me (I ate alone today) and my silverware strewn across the table. I received a mean glare, though all I said was "hi!" when she approached.
I keep returning because I love the food and the atmosphere (plenty of places to sit, window seats, and fresh flowers on every table!). I would have given five stars if they had better customer service.
But people will continue to attend. Alas! Clean up the bad attitude from the employees...
Read moreAs an ex-employee of Wagner’s, I feel the need to tell the public about what a mess this place is. Proper health and sanitation practices are almost nonexistent...ready to eat pastries are stored out in the open overnight, the ice machine constantly contains mildew and mold, certain employees do not wear gloves when putting fresh cookies and pastries on trays in the morning, and so on. General sanitation is not enforced, and all of these issues could be fixed by management. Management, however, once forced me to use milk that had been expired for over a month because “throwing it out would be a waste,” so I doubt health and food safety standards will be improving anytime soon. Aside from sanitation, treatment of employees and customers is unbelievably poor. Almost every day, I found myself apologizing to customers on behalf of my rude, snobby, impatient coworkers, particularly those in supervising positions. What business would allow their employees to treat customers like time-wasting nuisances? Unfortunately, Wagner’s does, and I was embarrassed to be a part of it. Employees are under constant scrutiny and judgement despite receiving little to no training for such a highly productive and demanding job. My coworker friends and I would go home feeling miserable...not because of exhaustion, but because of the nasty, bitter, and manipulative treatment by our superiors. I wish I had quit sooner. The baked goods are great, but I hope you all realize what goes on behind the scenes, and what kind of business you’re supporting by going to...
