Nifty downstairs location, smelly, dank and simply average "drinks" experience I wanted to try The Dubliner for quite some time because I LOVE Harp on tap. Being this is an Irish bar, I checked and was pleased to learn they served it on tap. So, the wife and I loaded up and traveled the 5 minutes to the Old Market to try on The Dubliner. Just prior to entering we noticed the lingering odor of spilled beers and whatever other liquids were also "spilled" in that specific location. Not so cool. Upon entering we noticed the bar was almost empty (To be expected for a late Friday afternoon), sat and were promptly served by a bartender (Nothing special here). The Harp was averagely priced and just slipping into the low end of cold, but was adequate (Once again, nothing special). The place was dark (Which I like) but was SO empty and smelled JUUUUUST funky enough to compel us to down our beers and exit without fanfare. All in all, I'll say that while this bar may be enjoyable and fun for college aged kids who don't mind the odoriferous nature of this dive, for a middle aged couple looking for a quiet Irish bar to have a cold Harp in a pleasant atmoshphere, you should probably move to...
Read moreHectic, terrible entry area, rude door guy usually, and not enough room. Despite all of that, the bar staff is great, the drink choices are very extensive, and I like most of the atmosphere. It's a coin flip for me whether I enjoy being there each time, but a lot has to do with how busy it is, which is not the bar's fault.
Edit to respond to comment: I'm not asking for an apology. The point of reviews is so that people can know what to expect when looking for a bar. Even if it's things out of your control, it still is what happens in the bar. Sure the entrance isn't changeable, I get that. But I've personally been stuck on that stairway in freezing weather while the place was letting people in slowly over time multiple times. That's something I'd like to know ahead of time while reading through reviews of where to go. I think the rating is fair, and I'll still be there when you...
Read moreThe bartender was extremely rude and off putting. Each time a girl from my group when up and ordered a drink (we were drinking the same thing all evening) the price changed. I’ve never had a Long Island made wrong twice. The first one was great and the last two were not long islands. I paid 8.50 for the first two and then 6 after I said that wasn’t what I ordered. Since it was cash only for the Holiday, were tip the bartender at the end sort of people, and the bartender decided to yell at my friends about it. Definitely won’t be back :)
As we were walking out, our bartender was taking a smoke break and I looked directly in the eye when he said “I hope they get hit with a car tonight” I really can’t believe they allow customer...
