Blue Sushi delivers a modern and unique take on sushi and successfully executes just about every element of the restaurant dining experience.
I visited Blue Sushi with a friend and was seated near the bar area. It wasn't the most ideal place to sit at since was a bit dark and we got a lot of traffic from people coming in and out of the restrooms. Upon first impression, I really enjoyed the decor and general vibe of the place. It felt lively and full of pizazz.
When I sat down I was annoyed at the uneven and flimsy chair at my table. I quite honestly felt like the chair was going to break at any moment. One wrong move and it would've been my end. Fortunately enough, I lived. I tried to grab a chair across from our table but it wasn't any better. It didn't rise to the level of complaining but I hope the managers recognize that this could potentially be a safety issue for future customers.
The menu was full of an array of options. I truly believe that there is something for everyone to enjoy. I also appreciated the diverse drink selection. When it came time to ordering I started off with the miso soup. It was absolutely fantastic. The broth had the perfect amount of seasoning and the slices of what I believe was octopus elevated the dish to another level. This was quite honestly one of the best miso soups I've had in the city of Omaha. Just great overall.
As an entree I ordered the San Marcos Maki. I really didn't know what to expect from this dish. The menu clearly indicated the ingredients but I wanted to see how well they would all come together. The main problem I had with this dish, and this may just be me being petty, but I kind of wish I would've known how spicy it was going to be. Depsite all of that, this roll was fiery, fresh, and packed with flavor. The two crunchy shrimp on each end were an added bonus that I saved till the end. I enjoyed the roll but halfway through eating it the spiciness just became a little too overwhelming for my taste. The jalapenos were a really nice addition but the spiciness of it was a little overbearing. I probably should've assumed that something listed as having jalapenos was going to be very spicy but I just didn't expect it to be that spicy. Must've been a good jalapeno season, they were harvested directly from the gates of hell. Take this as a word of caution.
For desert we ordered ice cream. The raspberry sorbet was heavenly. I ordered the green tea ice cream but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the raspberry sorbet that my friend ordered. It was perfectly sweet and blissful. What a delight.
I also just want to commend the waitress for the great service she provided. If I could remember her name I would mention it. I was just very happy that she kept checking in on us and had a kind personality. Nothing but praise.
My first visit to Blue Sushi was enjoyable. The restaurant is a fun place to have a meal at and the food was wonderful. I didn't come here expecting an authentic Japanese culinary experience so I wasn't disappointed that it wasn't that. Blue Sushi takes creative liberties on a variety of it's menu items but it executes them well enough for the average gastronomist.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fun and casual dining experience. I had a pleasant time here, will definitely visit again in the...
Read moreFlagship: I have to update my review and the only reason I'm doing so is to hopefully get this issue resolved. I love this place. I used to work here and we order takeout often. Until recently I've had 2 not so ideal experiences. The first was 4/13/23. I ordered $118.18 worth of food and for some reason, the online ordering system kept rejecting my card. I checked the billing zip, cvv, everything and tried again. $118.18. No luck. So before I tried again, I called. The employee stated that my bank was rejecting the transaction so for due diligence, I triple checked all my information, balance etc. The third time seemed to work but I was concerned and called to be certain since my son was already en route. They said the charge was rejected. I called my bank and she stated that the vendor's online service was rejecting my transaction. This tied up $354.54! worth of pending transactions in my account and still no food. I called back and spoke to Morgan, who was very kind and helpful. He let me know that sometimes the queue for the ordering system will reject an order if the line is full or they are receiving a high amount of orders. That makes total sense to me but it seems like rather than no true explanation, even from the majority of staff, this is extremely problematic. A simple message to 'try again in 10 minutes, queue full' would have been better. Maybe a waitlist option? Thankfully the first 2 charges fell off rather quickly but the third took days and my son had to pay for our food. Just yesterday, I ordered $104.42 worth of food. I was again met with a card rejection. Lesson learned. I called and spoke to a manager who was short with me (maybe it was a stressful day) but it was lacking empathy. I asked if, to merely avoid tying up hundreds of dollars, if I could just pay when I came to pick up the food. Seemingly reluctant, he agreed. I am a spoiled sushi lover after working at Blue years ago and it's hard to even go elsewhere after 10 years of favorites. Please just sort out this minor system issue and I will gladly return this review to 5 stars as it had sat for over 5 years. I'm sure I'm not the only customer who had an issue but if I am, just say the word and I'll start calling in my orders like it's 2012. Thanks...
Read moreThe sushi was okay not the best of ever had. the prices are a little high considering the portion sizes but you're paying for a night out in the old market so it is what it is. On the main floor the music volume was low enough you could easily carry on a conversation but the seating was a little too close in proximity to other parties. When we got there they informed us there would be a 45-minute to an hour wait due to not enough staff. That seems to be an issue most restaurants are having these days. Finally some seating opened up on the second floor The seating spacing was good except the music volume upstairs was a little louder which made carrying on a conversation with your party a little difficult. The temperature upstairs seem to be just a little warmer than I would prefer. But anything cooler might be too cold for the ladies. The wait staff was very professional and courteous. Drink glasses never went empty The food was brought to us promptly. The waiter did mess up our order we had ordered three rolls of spicy salmon and three rolls of spicy tuna this was in addition to several other single role orders on the menu. When they brought our order out everything was there except there was only one roll of spicy salmon and run roll of spicy tuna. The serving plate was pretty full so we assumed they were just going to bring out the remaining four rolls later. An hour later we checked in to see where the other rolls were and they had made a mistake when they put in the order. They fixed the mistake and brought out the remaining rolls. Being this is the old market parking is always a hassle you either roam for a free parking spot on the street or park in one of the garages and pay. We got lucky with street parking this was around 12:45 on a Sunday afternoon with good weather. Inside on the main floor the temperature was slightly warm and humid, Overall the experience was okay if I had friends going here again The venue would not deter me from joining them. But if I was planning a night out this would probably not be my first choice. I prefer my dining experiences to be more private in the experience, where it's easier to engage in conversation with your friends without...
