Clio's offers a lot in the way of food, service and atmosphere. It's a unique entry into Omaha's growing food scene and a much-needed departure from the many brewpubs around town. My wife and I went during Clio's THIRD day open, and they did amazingly. You would have thought this place was open for years with how smoothly everything was run.
The Atmosphere The decor is beautiful; bright and clean, with Mediterranean inspired art and gold accents throughout. The bathrooms have rolled washcloths in place of paper towels (which I thought was a very nice touch). This place is very Instagrammable. For those of you wondering like we were - this is the former location of the downtown Wheatfields restaurant.
The Food I am a relatively picky eater, but found everything to be very flavorful and enjoyable. The menu is diverse and the dishes so well crafted that I can honestly say there is something for even the most particular palettes. We tried a bit of everything - the beef kebab, the salmon kebab, the turkish beef dumplings, the muhamarra, the crispy potatoes and the phyllo pie, and every single dish felt well though out, balanced and flavorful. The large plates come with pita bread (I think?), but I recommend getting an order of the muhammara for dipping your pita bread in. Everything was delicious. If you're not an adventurous eater, the beef dumplings and the crispy potatoes are both particularly good and are likely to be a hit with just about anyone. I would go back just for these two dishes alone. For drinks, my wife enjoyed the Casa Clio cocktail, and I was a big fan of the Fig Sour (which tastes similar to an Amaretto Sour).
The Service Service was top notch. We had a manager, an owner, our waiter, and several other wait staff check on us multiple times. There was never a point where we didn't have full cups of water or a new cocktail on the way if we wanted it, which for me at least, is the mark of attentive service. Our server, Zack, was very friendly and attentive. No one has name tags, but you're encouraged to ask for your server's name if you'd like.
The Cost Pricing was very fair considering how much we ordered. We landed at around $150 before tip for multiple drinks, starters, and entrees. They comped dessert(!) because it was my wife's birthday, which was incredibly nice of them. This certainly isn't the cheapest place to eat, but the quality of the food and service make it a worthwhile splurge for me. For comparison, I found Memoir (also downtown) to be much more expensive, and food and service that was just okay.
Overall Notes The overall experience was fantastic. We will definitely be back again soon! A note to those looking to try this place out - make a reservation. It's very busy and very popular, so do yourself a favor and grab a time slot if you...
Read moreWe visited Clio on opening night for my dad’s birthday. With a reservation for 6:45 pm, we were promptly seated. Having spent years traveling around the Mediterranean, my dad was eager to try this place out. Upon entering, we were impressed by the stunning decor. The colors, seating, tables, lighting, and even the outdoor patio tile were beautifully coordinated. The bathroom was equally impressive. The atmosphere was stunning. 5/5!
We had three different managers stop by our table to introduce themselves and check on us. Our server was good, although there was a point where we didn’t see her for over 30 minutes. Thankfully, other servers stepped in to help. It was opening night and packed, so we understood. We ordered a lot of food to share, and while the first set arrived promptly, we waited about 40 minutes for the next round. A manager eventually informed us that our food was mistakenly given to another table, but they made it right by comping part of our meal without us even asking. Service was a 4/5!
The drinks were delicious and generous. We had a Hugo Spritz, Aperol Spritz, Limoncello, and Sangria. All were fantastic. 5/5!
Our food included: Spreads: Hummus Muhammara Labneh Baba Ganoush All served with warm in-house pita. Absolutely incredible. 5/5.
Mezze: Saffron Rice Fritters: 2/5. Nothing special. Yellowtail Crudo: 2/5. Overhyped and underwhelming. Turkish Beef Dumplings: 2/5. Lacked flavor. Saganaki Flaming Cheese: 2/5. The cheese was hard and not hot. Falafel: 3/5. Good, but nothing special.
Large Plates: Chicken Kabob: 5/5. Tender and juicy chicken, perfect rice, and delightful chermoula and tzatziki.
Desserts: Sticky Toffee Pudding: 5/5. A standout dessert, beautifully made and delicious. Affogato: 4/5. Tasty but not extraordinary. Baklava Sundae: 0/5. A major disappointment. The vanilla frozen yogurt tasted like rancid milk, which made it inedible. We informed the manager, who ended up removing it from the menu for the night.
Despite some hiccups, particularly with the mezze and the Baklava Sundae, the overall experience was positive, especially for an opening night. The atmosphere, drinks, spreads, and some of the larger plates were excellent, making Clio a place we would...
Read moreMy wife and I had a reservation, we arrived 15 min early and were greeted and seated enthusiastically and promptly, the front end was great. Our wait was prompt for the initial table visit. I could only make out 20% of what she said as the volume level in the dining room was deafening. The lack of sound control in a restaurant is a pet peeve of mine. I know this is a bit above and beyond the efforts of most restaurants but... holy cow was it loud. The walls are all hard and there is no baffling, enough of that. We had the beets and the yellowtail ceviche (no picture) for appetizers. The yellowtail was 11/10! The beets were fine but what I like to call: "refried beans"... don't hate 'em, don't love 'em, they were beets. Service: Our app plates were on the table empty for a good 10 min and were cleared by the runner that brought our entrees. The runner (the Sommelier) was quick, well-coordinated and polite. She should not have had to clear our app plates but she did and was smooth and professional. I was classically trained, tested and graded in service when I was younger and working in the restaurant industry as a wait so I might be a bit biased. The entrees were TASTY!!! Wow, were they good! My wife had the trout fillet and I had the Salmon Kabob. We had the chocolate Crème Brule for dessert. Texture-wise it was nice (9/10), taste-wise it was good (8/10). Mind you it was not bad by any means, it was sweet and crunchy on top. I'm not a big dessert person so add a point if you are a sweetie. Post desert we had a nice chat with our wait, she was super genuine and sweet although I could not hear 80% of what she said. Overall: I'm not in a hurry to go back but I would not discourage anyone, by any means, to go give it a try. I cannot be the only person that is sensitive to ultra-loud restaurants. Sound control must be a consideration in some places, yes? Artfully wrapped baffling cannot be that difficult to incorporate into the interior design thinks I. Value: Dinner for two (plus 2 apps and 3 drinks) plus tip was $155. I find that right on par with what I expected and what we received. Please visit Clio and try several apps and entrees and drink offerings as you can. The bar area is hopping and looks...
