We were told the new owners had just taken over the restaurant a month ago, but looks like they kept the name. I had never ventured into this restaurant previously though so I can't say how it's changed at all. The dining area is a very comfortable area to sit in, with high ceilings and chairs with high backs .
Service was a mix. Our male server was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, whereas the female one was more reserved. Service was not exceptionally professional, more like when your friends are helping you serve at the restaurant.
Garlic naan was pretty standard 4 stars.
The standout dish for flavor was the goat curry (medium spicy). 5 stars on taste. I wish there was more of the sauce to go around since it's delicious. It's got a very rich deep complex and meaty flavor. (What I expected from the vindaloo but we will get to that in a bit)
Tikka masala (shrimp, medium spice) hit the right spot. 5 stars. It would be these two dishes that I would go back for.
Butter chicken (not spicy) gets a 4. It's a good take but the Tikka masala was just better.
I didn't like the (we did lamb, not spicy) vindaloo because it wasn't what I thought it should be. If you told me it was another dish I might have been more accepting... But there are just other better things to order in my opinion. 3.75 is my rating. I will say their lamb was very good and tender
So I do need to caveat that perhaps because of the spice levels that might have affected the flavor of the food. I do like things spicy but I ordered some things not spicy because of my friend. I might need to redo those dishes at medium and see how I feel. I also would have liked it if the rice came out hotter as it was lukewarm when we received it. The curries were hot so we didn't mention it.
I do want to return for their lunch on the weekends since they have the buffet (not available for dinner). It seems like there might be a lot of options, but I didn't ask for the price.
Parking is downtown parking so expect to pay at the meet. I think for the meters just outside the restaurant it was 1.25 an hour.
Would recommend the food, but if you are looking to impress your date and service is important, you might want to wait on this one until they train...
Read moreWe came here for dinner, but they have a lunch buffet as well. The dinner menu has great prices, and a variety of options to choose from. The restaurant immediately smells amazing as soon as you walk into the space. Staff is friendly and attentive, and the space is clean and well organized. We came later in the evening, and the server made sure we had adequate lighting to be able to read our menus. There was some nice saxophone music playing in the background, which added a nice ambiance during the meal.
We ordered the vegetable samosas, roti, chicken korma, and lamb biryani. The vegetable samosas were hot and fresh, and served with two dipping sauces. A spicy, fruity tamarind sauce and a yogurt-based sauce that had a nice chlorophyllic flavor. The outside of the samosa was crunchy and golden without being greasy. The filling was well-spiced and packed with yummy veggies without being claggy. The roti was thin and crispy. It was fresh and had a nice slightly chewy bite to it. Not greasy, and could have easily eaten another order of it (yes, it was that delicious). The chicken korma was full of spices, and the sauce was creamy. The chicken was well-cooked and served with a side of white basmati rice. The portion of lamb biryani was generous for the price, and served with a side of raita sauce. The dish had a boiled egg, caramelized onion and fresh cilantro on top. The dish was packed full of spices, and tender pieces of lamb.
The restaurant staff were super attentive and friendly, checking in throughout our meal to make sure that we were all taken care of. I’m shocked that this place was so well-priced, because the food is amazing and so is...
Read moreI am very disappointed by this. I thought it would be great from all the reviews and beautiful pictures.
The Tikka masala was more like soup than a curry. One piece of chicken was cooked properly. The rest was overcooked. The amount of chicken is small too.
The mango lassi was the highlight of the meal. It was not a full glass. You may be concerned that the cup will leak. Wrap it in cling wrap or tape the top. Other places have better, cheaper lassi and i get a full cup.
I was not pleased with the chicken pakora. It's too expensive for the amount you get and there isn't even any chutney. $10 in Connecticut and you can get a full plate of pakoras and 2 kinds of chutney. That is the expensive north east, yet a better deal. They taste better too.
I asked for utensils and napkins in my delivery order and there were none.
I travel all over the country and eat Indian food everywhere. If you don't know indian food, I strongly encourage you to try other places. I have had some that are far worse, believe me. I struggled with giving 3 stars not 2...but at the end of the day, I was able to eat everything and it was all hot. The true verdict is 2.5 stars. The person who replies to these reviews seems very enthusiastic about the restaurant, so I rounded the rating up and not down. I hope you can take this criticism...
