Overall: I really liked it. See why below If You like solid margs with great prices and good selection of top shelf tequila, good portion sizes, and can handle a little bit more than mild heat, this place is for you. Things I liked: 1) Happy Hour Prices Were Awesome -$5.50 margs- they had a lot of really good choices from simple lime or strawberry marg to things little more wild like blackberry, lavender, or jalapeño. They also only use top shelf tequila which I think is awesome -chips and salsa are cheaper, Guac is cheaper and the queso is $2 off. - also solid beer prices 2) salsa /guacamole thoughts- over all great. Salsa Roja is smoky, verde is sweet and tangy and negra starts sweet but has some heat on the back end. If you can’t handle heat they all had some mild heat, but nothing overpowering and flavor profiles are overpowered by the heat. -Guacamole was solid but has a lot of onions and they are large 3) tacos were great, I got: -beer battered cod, chicken, and shrimp and all were excellent. Some had picked onions and peppers and were surprisingly good. 4) also got the elote corn which was excellent and fairly mild and sweet and was a nice touch to a fairly spice dish 5) prices were all very good. 6) service was excellent 7) very solid tequila selection Things to Be aware of: 1) chips were way too greasy and over cooked 2) one could be turned off by how big the onions where in the guac or how spicy some of the food was, especially if you are very sensitive to heat. 3) also, if you like simple tacos I would recommend really reading the ingredients before purchasing NOTE: I didn’t try everything on the menu, obviously, so I am sure you could find something you would like if you don’t like heat. 4) there isn’t a ton of seating, especially if you don’t like to sit outside, so be aware that it could be hard to get a table if it’s during a busy time of the night.

My partner and I visited Hook & Lime during their opening weekend. Immediately we were struck by the decor: warm mood lighting, wood paneled wall, and plenty of seating. Classy but comfortable. I started with a Lemon & Lavender cocktail which had a great balance of flavor but could have used less ice and a little more lavender. Good cocktail nonetheless. We started with a flight of salsas, the verde, Borracha and Veracruz by recommendation of our server. The Verde is a classic fresh green. The Veracruz is a pumpkin seed base, almost like a hummus — unique taste that grew on me. The Borracha is thicker and tomato paste-like with a hint of Mezcal and was my least favorite, the flavors did not compliment as much as I'd hoped. The chips are fresh fried and delicious, plenty of salt. We also got an order of guacamole — simple with onion, lime, jalapeño and cilantro. As for tacos, I got the adobo chicken which came in nice chunks and fresh toppings, love the sweet corn. Also got the carnitas which was alright. They do a slow roast of the pork which I think made it out to be rather dry, definitely would have preferred a sauce or juicier serving. They come on corn tortillas which I liked. Our server, whose name escapes me, was great and the service I could tell was still working out kinks. That is to be expected from a new place. Overall, I would recommend giving Hook and Lime a try. They are taking risks and seeing what sticks and I liked that a lot. Also, they specialize in seafood, which we didn't get around to trying. I look forward to going again.

In short, a good, quick Mexican inspired meal for a reasonable price. There is a decent selection of beers available, as well, though it seems most people gravitate toward the margaritas. I had the salsa trio for an appetizer, followed up by the Hook and Lime Salad. The chips, I found, were a little on the oily side and the oil that they used tasted different than other tortilla chips -- and not in a good way. The salsas were very good, however, which made up for the lackluster chips. The salad was delicious and the lime and cilantro came through very well. Some people may find the lime overpowering, but I appreciated it. As I mentioned, the beer selection is good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent and I did not feel rushed throughout the meal or afterward. I did see that people complain about the prices, but I found that they are comparable to other restaurants in the area. It may be that people expect Mexican to be very inexpensive compared to other options, but I have found that only to be true of standard Mexican fare, which uses inexpensive ingredients and often winds up tasting the same regardless of where you go. The Hook and Lime's take on Mexican, I thought, uses an appropriate amount of fresh, more expensive ingredients and that this justifies the higher prices. On the whole, I give the restaurant 4 stars.

I have been here twice and each time it has been a serious regret of mine. I don’t remember much from the first time since it was months ago except that the food and the service sucked beyond belief. I gave it another chance today because nothing else in the area was open yet and my God I really regret that. Thankfully, compared to last time I got my drink really fast whereas last time I was here it took probably 15 minute to even get a drink. The problem this time is that I literally was forgotten about until my drink was gone. I never had a chance to order food until maybe 20-25 minutes of being here. The only reason I got food was because he came and asked me if I wanted another margarita and I reminded him I hadn’t ordered food and would like to, astonishingly so. I literally contemplated closing out after the first margarita because I could just drive over to Mulas and get food there. I stupidly thought that oh, why don’t I try the birria tacos since I’m already here and I’ve been on a birria kick and kind of want to do a tour of whose got the best in town. That—that was a serious mistake. The tacos were pathetic. The presentation was pathetic. The meat was dry. And the consume was like a thin broth, it wasn’t anything like other places I’ve had consumme, and not in a good way. Then, when I ordered my second margarita I simply asked if I could get the pineapple mezcal margarita and sub mezcal for tequila because I didn’t want the smokiness of the mezcal. The server was such a brat about it. I was just asking if I could get that and how and he just stood there arguing about how to order it. I DONT CARE, I DONT WORK HERE I AM SIMPLY TELLING YOU WHAT ID LIKE AND IF THATS POSSIBLE I DONT CARE HOW YOU RING IT IN. He talked to me like I was stupid. Then, sitting here, I wrote all of this while waiting to be closed out. It took almost 10 minutes for him to come around and ring me out after I asked to be closed out. This man probably had 4 tables max, one of them being me. It was not busy by the time I left. The drinks taste bad. The food tastes bad. And the service sucked 2 times out of 2. I highly recommend going ANYWHERE else. It’s a cute place and the host was nice but not worth coming to, I promise you that. I’m always happy at mula and that isn’t far away. Try that instead if you aren’t looking for fully authentic tacos...
