On Friday, December 23, 2022, my mother hosted an engagement party at the Blatt inside the beer garden rooftop. I am the bride and my mother worked extremely hard with the planning for this event. In September, my fiancé and I went to the Blatt to view the space. At that time, we asked staff about having an engagement party in December and if they have an all seasons rooftop. They ensured us that the rooftop would be enclosed and heated properly. My mother also went to the space before she booked with them to ask similar questions and was given the same answers regarding the heating.
The afternoon of the engagement party; my fiancé, mother, and aunt went to the venue to begin decorating. When they arrived, the roof hatch was open, the room was freezing, and snow was inside of the venue. (There is a picture attached with the snow in the venue) My mother asked them to close the hatch and if the room would be heated by the start of the party (6pm). Again, the staff ensured that the room would be properly heated.
At the time of the party, the heaters were on. However, it was still really cold and only got worse throughout the night. Guest were beginning to show their discomfort but still trying their best to be supportive and fight the cold. After dinner, I asked my fiancé to see if the staff could do anything about the heat. He was given the answer “this is the best it’s going to get.” We had a full program of games, speeches, and family introductions. About half of the guests had to leave due to the cold well before the event ended. I felt so disappointed because we worked so hard to have a full program that had activities throughout the night. At that point, I was approached by 2 employees apologizing about the cold and offering a 20% discount. About 45 minutes until the end of the event, I was given the option to move it to a different room. By that point, most of our guests left, we had a 360 camera and a DJ. By the time they would take down and put together their equipment again, the party would be over.
Everyone made the best of the situation because this is supposed to be a monumental moment. However, I was extremely disappointed and saddened that I could not get the full experience of celebrating my engagement. I wish that the staff and event planner were more caring of our situation. The hatch should have never been open over night. Especially since we had dangerously low temperatures for 2 days. They should have offered us a space inside the restaurant before all of the equipment was set up for the DJ and 360 booth. Those take a lot of time and effort to set up and take down. Plus those were companies that we hired, not our personal equipment.
Overall, there should have been more initiative to at least find more heaters for the room when it was discovered that the hatch was left open. This was discovered at noon, the party started at 6. That is more than enough time to have a solution. I really feel sad for my mom as she spent a lot of money, time, and effort for this. She did not have an ounce of empathy from the event coordinator. The coordinator was supposed to contact her the following day and did not. She was not contacted until after she wrote a Google review. I hope no one experiences this type of treatment during what is supposed to be one of the happiest moments...
Read moreWill I go again? Yes, food was good, but I have little hope for customer service.
Do I recommend? Only if you dont care about customer service.
This seems to be a place that you have to weigh your odds when it comes to a rating. Do you value food quality or quality of service more? I went last night for the first time and my initial thoughts were "this is cool!" The environment is great. I love how the big garage doors come up to offer a feeling of patio seating with fresh air, or there is an area that is completely indoor. The food ordering process is simple and with a shorter menu, it seems like a great place to chill, drink, and get decent food. The food we ordered was delicious and worth the price.
However, as we enjoyed our food, my irritation with service increasingly grew. Our table was right beside the serving station where we could see everything our server, and another were doing. After our server took our order, she did not come back until after somebody else brought our food to us. Which was fine, except for the fact that she stood in the server station on her phone the entire time. Both talking on it, and texting. Her and another server were showing eachother things on their phones, laughing and having a great time. Cool. Fine. Whatever. I could careless if you at least could wash your hands and come refill my drink. After our food was delivered, she stopped 1 time to ask how it was, got me a new drink, and that was it. Again, sat on her phone. I watched as this woman was getting on her phone, then going to a table to refill drinks or drop food off. Never once washing her hands. She was rushed in her motive to even great us, and put minimal effort into her service and returned from each table she talked to, to just get back on her phone.
While I was hoping this was just a her problem, I quickly observed that no staff cared. Many staff stopped to laugh with her about what she saw on her phone, and if there was a manager (I couldn't tell of there was one), they weren't worried about what their...
Read moreI attended an event there (rooftop). Venue was clean, industrial look, and wait & drink servers are the reasons I give 2 stars, they were really good! Why I took three stars: it was quite literally freezing. There was a significant cold front that day BUT according to the website there are 1 or 2 other spaces that could have been used and because of their location would have been warmer is what I'd assume. I did not get pictures but frost began collecting near the east (?) side of the doors and it made it extremely uncomfortable to sit in the areas close to the doors. These doors can all be let up during nice weather to have an indoor/outdoor rooftop experience. The warmers did little to make the space tolerable. Many people at the party left because the floor was so cold our feet turned numb. The food: cannot accurately review because it was so cold once it was removed from the server it was not even warm. The cookie and fresh fruit were good. Now this is what I was told: management was dismissive and offered a 20% discount. While I understand the weather was not their fault and maybe they had little to no control over the mechanics of the heating unit, having been in management there's no way I would have not made a better resolution for the people who paid all that money. Solution 1: change the event space location, the restaurant was not full at all and judging from the parking lot the other spaces were available. Solution 2: offer at least 40% back as refund or gift card, extreme issue during an engagement party calls for a big fix. Solution 3: less ideal cancel rather than letting patrons think the experience was going to be okay. The people of various ages 3-86 were extremely cold and disappointed in the whole situation. I drove over 600 miles to the event and would have appreciated a comfortable experience. Not sure I'd return based off how the family was treated when trying to voice their concerns. I will say this is a great opportunity to put different severe cold weather...
