This is a cumulative review. I've been here with a friend, in a family group, alone, and for take out. Naughty Buddha Burger used to be next to it, but has closed down. It's a bit of aan interesting and sometimes marginal neighborhood at times but I have never had any trouble. I LOVE Salmex! I was hesitant at first, but no longer. My favorite menu items are the PUPUSAS. There is a huge variety, including spinach, mushroom, chicken, bean, etc. They come with a vinegar cole slaw and hot sauce. If you are like me, you'll ask for the EXTRA HOT. The street tacos are good, and the guacaomole is freshly made. There is also a special Salvadoran Soup that I don't know the name of, but the cook gave us a sample. He said it was the kind of soup that took all day to make and was usually for Sunday dinner or holidays. We all loved it, but the memory is even more poignant because it was the last time I had latino food with my nephew, who passed away at age 42 a few months later from cancer. I love the atmosphere. I love the fact that teenage Tonya is working the counter and helping the family. I love that you can see business people there and neighborhood people. The menu is in Spanish and sort of in English. It is not a big place, but there is plenty of room. I saw one review that mentioned slow service, but I have never had that problem. That's one of the ways you can tell it is freshly made! If you want to try something new, try Salmex. Unfortunately, I no longer want to try pupusas...
Read moreReally good blend of Salvadorean and Mexican food. Not sure how they make their beans but dang are they good.
You’re welcome to try anything in their menu, but if you’re with a group of three or more, I’d like to recommend the “Botanitas”, which is a platter that mixes the best of either El Salvador, Mexico, or both. It’s the best bag for the buck after their $1 tacos on Mondays (no asada…I repeat: tacos the asada are not part of the deal, but their chicken ones are 🔥) and $1 pupusas on Tuesday’s. For the latter, I recommend ‘mixtas’ which come with chicharrón, beans, and cheese. They’re my favorite and these guys cook them well.
Owners are very friendly and they may let you try some experimental, awesome dishes if you become a regular. They accept both...
Read moreFood was good but service was horrible. Older lady right there that’s the cashier was rude didn’t wanna give us any green sauce said there was some in the bag mind you we bought a lot of food, also asked for the receipt and she went and put it in her pile without giving me anything and ignore that I had clicked that I wanted a receipt. Told her that I wanted to get a couple more pupusas to take to go and she got mad. Our drink was full of ice couldn’t even put the straw threw told her I wanted one without ice and she said “with no ice then I’ll fill it halfway up and gave me the drink halfway full. Loud and rude, been to this place for a while and every time we get her as a server/cashier she always...
