I’ll admit my expectations weren’t very high for Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers in Oro Valley because I’d read several negative Yelp reviews (mostly about service), but my wife and I just ate there and I thought it was great! Expectations exceeded! We had an excellent service experience, first of all. Margie was our server and she was on top of her game. Quick acknowledgement, offer to take drink order first, good menu knowledge, knowledge of gluten-free/friendly options in particular, engaging personality, checked on us regularly, and just plain FUN. This experience was FUN, and largely due to the excellent service, but the great food and vibe don’t hurt, either. Just wanted to be sure that it’s clear that at least for us, the service was EXCELLENT. When we return - and we WILL return, likely many times - we will ask for Margie. There are a lot of little things I thought Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers in Oro Valley does well, but at least for our first visit, the food was great. We both had the All American burger, and for me, it hit on all the “classic” cheeseburger attributes with a plus. That plus is the char. My first bite, I could taste that flavorful char on the outside of the cheeseburger, followed by delicious meat. That moment got my attention. It was cooked to my desired (medium well) temperature, the American cheese placed perfectly with just a little corner of it dropping down, the lettuce was fresh and shredded (I liked that, the shredded touch), tomato was fresh, bun was fluffy and fresh, too. Nice. And quite reasonably priced, particularly on happy hour. Some burger places, yes, have a less expensive burger, but not THIS size. It’s really great when a restaurant doesn’t reduce the size of an item for happy hour just because its cost is reduced. That didn’t escape me. Fries were very good, but even the chips that come with the burgers (I know, fries aren’t included with the burger but that’s the case with a lot of burger restaurants so it didn’t both me at all) were good. And there was lots of other menu items I want to TRY when we return, because there’s an excellent selection. I really want to try the buffalo chicken sandwich (and there are several variation of buffalo chicken like even a dip available), but it’ll be hard not to return to the burger, even if not the All American, lots of good looking choices on the burger side. Just the fact that they HAVE a gluten-friendly menu is a big plus for us (my wife is the one with the gluten allergy), but there are reasonably good options on it (unlike many restaurants’ skimpy GF menus that boil down to salad or fish). And the wine selection is good, and I particularly liked having a Pinot Grigio as a happy hour wine option (again, very reasonably priced, and good pours!). And sure it’s sports-themed, and there are a lot of televisions, but it’s not as if you can’t carry on a conversation because of the noise level (at least not on this particular occasion for us), and it’s not even all sports. There was a food-themed channel and even some kind of funny generally entertaining channel that had cute dog and cat videos and other fun videos. I just liked the ambiance. So there you have it - this place could easily become a go-to spot. And I get the feeling that between this place and Snooze, it’s going to make other businesses grow up around this side of the street again.

The six of us came here about 2 hours before they closed. We sat on the patio, and the server was quick to get our drink order and got our beers out to us. The server dropped our drinks off, and then we didn't see her for about 20 minutes. When she finally came back, I put an order in for fried pickles and an order of fries. She said she'll put the appetizers in and then come back for the food order. So, about 15 mins went by, and another gentleman brought our apps out, and I asked him to let our server know we were ready to order our burgers. Our server came back to our table after we finished our apps and our drinks. And asked if we wanted another round of drinks. Our server was about to go put the drink order in without even taking our food order yet. I asked if we could put our order in before she did the drinks, and she seemed really annoyed with this, but she still took our burger order and entered it in the p.o.s system. The same gentleman that brought our apps out ended up bringing our burgers out 40 minutes after our server took the order. Everyone at the table ordered medium cooked burgers, and all six of them were well done, cold and the top buns were hard and dry the fries were all cold, which indicates our food was sitting in the pass for a good amount of time. We also mentioned to the gentleman that dropped our food off to please let our server know that we wanted our drink order still, which we could see sitting at the bar for a while at this point. Our server came over about 10 minutes later, only to say it is the last call for drinks. I told her we never even got the last drink order and to just forget about it, and she then gave me attitude because the drinks were already poured but she gave no response to way they say in the bar for 45 minutes. I think the food would've been better if it had been given to us sooner, but there is no way to know. Send like a good place for a cold beer and to watch a game, but just sit at the bar or ask for a male server because they seem to be the ones on top of everything. We counted a total of seven tables in the entire place when we were there. It made sense being a Wednesday night, but it didn't make any sense for the really poor service.

My girlfriend needed to take the dogs for a walk so we went to Honeybee Canyon and hiked around one of the loops. Hungry and thirsty, we stopped at what appears to be a new establishment, Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers. The place was hopping — an ocean of people there to watch the playoffs (Steelers 17 — Ravens 10) and from the hoots and cheers, I would say the vast majority were Steelers fans. We sat on their dog-friendly patio and split a Pastrami burger (coleslaw on the side), a Modelo Especial for me, a Guinness for her. The burger was succulent and savory — tasted as if it had been charbroiled. They have a good selection of beers on draught, bottles and cans, as well as cocktails and wine. The crowds kept the servers rather busy, but they were all cheery, smiling and very helpful. Without our even asking, one of the servers brought a large dish of water for the pooches. As for atmosphere, it has the feel of a modern, open & airy neighborhood sports bar, plenty of room and a large heated patio with views of the Catalinas. Lots of TV screens, but for me the volume could have been attenuated several dB. If you don’t care to watch the game, several of the screens were set to something called ChiveTV which appeared to be a TV rebroadcasting of incessant TikTok videos. Apparently this is a Scottsdale-based chain (Square One Concepts) that already has multiple stores in the Phoenix metro. I quite enjoyed the experience — glad they’ve come to town.

This might be a great sports bar if that's your thing.

Make sure you have a lot of time. The online wait said about 30 min. We waited an hour.

We were seated outside on a cold evening and it took quite a while for the wait staff to even bring water. Then she swung by saying she would be right back to take our orders, but that took another fifteen.

The good thing is that the outdoor heaters were on, so we stayed warm. The bad news is that by the end of the meal we were too hot. Therefore, I recommend layers.

After finally ordering, we waited another HOUR before our food came. In the meantime, the wait staff never stopped by to update us about the delay, though they did refill our water, which was nice.

When the food arrived, my husband's burger was cold--it had clearly been sitting for at least 15 min.

The PB&J sliders were enjoyed by one in our group. If it sounds good to you, go ahead and give it a try.

We had 3 different Build-your-own Mac and cheese and ALL of them were wrong in multiple ways. One had 2 kinds of chicken, bacon, and no onion when only grilled chicken and onion were selected. One had one kind of chicken instead of two and the third also had two kinds of chicken, but also garlic, when neither were ordered.

The Mac was creamy and pretty good, though a bit overdone so some noodles were pretty mushy. When you order on a slip of paper, you'd think that would limit the errors, but nope.

They have a missed opportunity by not including sauces as one of the options for the build-your-own mac. I like a good ranch or BBQ drizzle on my Mac, but neither were available.

We got the check and the wait staff said she took off money for the delay in getting the food, but then she charged for an extra beer, so that negated the little discount she was giving.

While that was being sorted... The bathrooms are somewhat unique. The women's rooms are playing audio of the game, while the men's have actual video. Also, they have one restroom with only urinals, so that's somewhat interesting. One of our party indicated that the shared men/women restroom was gross. Full wastebasket and someone before left the seat up, didn't flush, and peed on the floor. Additionally, there were no toilet seat covers available, so it made the bathroom experience pretty gross.

The inside looked like there were good-sized booths, but there was no way on the waitlist to specify seating.

The ticket was right otherwise and itemized, so you could see the error in the Mac dishes was not her fault, as those were all input correctly there. The breakdown had to have been in the kitchen.

The place was packed for some basketball games, followed by a playoff game. The screens were beautiful and working well. We couldn't hear anything because it was so crowded, but the sound was definitely on (we did hear part of a GEICO ad).

People were definitely having a good time and their drink menu looked pretty good and extensive. Another missed opportunity is for some mocktails. There were a lot of families, kids and non-drinkers there and they could make some bank with even just a couple of mocktails.

They also have table top s'mores! This sounds amazing, but by the end of dinner we just wanted to leave the crowds and noise. The wait staff had already brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert, so a'las it wasn't meant to be.

Not sure how new this place is because we rarely go this far NW, but I hope they get their ducks in a row. We have no need to go back. Everything was all just OK and since we live far and don't follow much sports, it wasn't really our scene,but...
