We aren't from Owensboro... in fact we made a 2 hour drive on a whim since I got off work extra early today. Neither me or my Fiance had eaten yet, so the first thing I did once we got close to Owensboro is look up restaurants near Smother's Park (we planned to walk in the park and up to surrounding stores)
City walk popped up as one of the most popular resturaunts... and I figured the time (11:30) was a perfect time to get in quickly to a popular place.
We were seated pretty instantly upon arrival. I was shocked to see the restaurant was so small inside, but that doesnt matter... half the time that means the food is Killer, and this time was no acception!
We were slightly disappointed to see the Lunch menu didn't have everything we planned on getting (apparently we were viewing the Dinner menu) but that was alright.
Service was fast, First we got our drinks (I got the House margarita which was a very good, clean margarita.) Then we decided to try the chicken avocado flatbread... which was DELICIOUS. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Their ceasar salads were amazing, the dressing is VERY flavorful... it is kind of thick though so it is hard to spread out on the salad but the flavor made me not even care.
My main course was the Meatloaf with Mashed potatoes and Mac and Cheese..... I will say it was SUPERB. Half the time you need to doctor up your mashed potatoes... these didn't need a dash of anything. The mac and cheese was different... not your typical tasting mac, but good nonetheless. And the meatloaf was also killer, although surprisingly dense? I had never had a meatloaf so thick before..... don't get me wrong though, I'm not complaining.
If the only thing you have to worry about is the small amount of seating and space..... you got a good thing going. I usually do not leave reviews but everything was so good and the staff was so friendly that I felt I needed to.
City Walk is definitely worth a try if you're ever...
Read moreFinally talked my boyfriend into trying this restaurant and we left unimpressed.
Upon arriving we were greeted and taken to our booth. I see why you have to have reservations. Only 10 tables in the restaurant. Our booth was snug, we aren't small people but not huge. We waited for 7 minutes for our server to come greet us at the table. She was chatting with another table. Already getting a bad vibe. The cocktail menu was bland. I guess I was expecting unique mixed drinks with fun names ... nope just basic names. Ok not ordering any fun cocktails. The server was knowledgeable about the menu. We made are choices. Food came out fairly quickly. I got the Pecan crusted chicken with bourbon sauce. Green beans and mashed potatoes. I love my sweets, id usually rather have dessert than food. But I found the bourbon glaze too sweet. I accidentally over salted my green beans but other than that my boyfriend said that was the best part of the meal. My boyfriend got the beef Manhattan and mac n cheese. Beef Manhattan was good but had a crunchy garnishment on top that was the same color as the beef so until you ate it you didn't realize it was crunchy. Which is not what you expect from beef Manhattan. He said the mac n cheese was very good but cold.
Notice I did not mention the mashed potatoes in either meal review?? Lol yeah they deserve their own paragraph..... When I see there is a professional chef making the menu and cooking I expect real mashed potatoes not INSTANT. I couldn't believe it. You're in this nice "scratch" restaurant and the mashed potatoes were fake. Runny, no special touches. To me that's the equivalent of putting a-1 on a good steak. The chef talked to a couple tables, some multiple times but never stopped by our table to check in. Again only 10 tables in the building so that kinda made me feel unwelcome.
We chose here because reviews on reddit raved about it. I just wanted to share...
Read moreYou know what it’s like to have dinner at a place and say wow that was the best food I’ve had then go back a second time and say ehhhh not as good as I thought?? This is NOT that place!! We’ve been three times now and every time is as good if not better than the last. We finally figured we could split a dinner (huge portions) and enjoy extra appetizers. Let’s start at appetizers. Fried zucchini, which I had never had before was awesome!! Lightly breaded, fresh and tasty. I’m a crab cake snob. This is Kentucky. There is NO WAY this Maryland girl trusts a crab cake in ANY OTHER state. Well after our first visit and the food being incredible, we decided let’s take a chance. Thankful we did. They were beyond delicious and just as tasty as the beach restaurants on the Eastern shore. Truth be told, these were probably better!! The salmon and chicken were cooked to perfection. And portions were so large, we easily shared and ordered an Extra side. Service is always great. Alcoholic beverages aren’t skimpy and their Bahama Mama is super fruity and refreshing.
Living in TN I cannot wait for trips to Owensboro to have dinner here. I actually get excited at the idea of dinner at this amazing place!! My mouth is watering thinking about it.
Awesome food, exceptional service and beyond reasonable prices for what you get. Looking forward to my next stop in. Oh and if you’re planning an evening out and decide on City Walk, call ahead and make a reservation. You won’t regret it!! Be sure to allow time to walk along the riverfront. You’ll be stuffed from the portions of these meals!! Thanks to the amazing chef at City Walk. So glad to have found this place!! I’d give it a 10 star review if I could!!
Note: I put $30 to $50 because it’s easy to rack up the alcohol charges and several appetizers because they are all so yummy. You CAN eat here on a budget. It is VERY affordable. We over order because...
