Hummus Republic — Restaurant in Owings Mills

I love a create your own fast-casual restaurant and Hummus Republic falls right in line with the quality, taste, and quantity of other customizable restaurant menus.

Nestled in a little plaza in the Owings Mills area sits the Mediterranean inspired, Hummus Republic. Very similar to Cava, however, I feel the flavors differ a bit. They offer salads, wraps, and bowls which you customize to your heart's desire.

Since I'm a girl who loves a bowl of food that's what I opted for. Hummus Republic had so many topping options from the rice and lentil selections to the protein, veggies, and dressings you can choose. The young lady assisting me was so helpful. Offering samples of various items so I could get a taste of what I liked before adding it to my bowl. I really enjoyed that your protein of choice is cooked when ordered versus sitting in trays on the service line. And I must admit I think I prefer the hummus at Hummus Republic over the hummus and dips at Cava. The harissa hummus was a sure win in my book.

I was really disappointed with my visit to this Hummus Republic location. I asked for just one base which was rice, but the portion was incredibly small, even after I specifically mentioned I only wanted rice as my base. The person serving was barely adding any toppings either, making the $12 price point feel completely unjustified. With other options nearby like Cava and Mezeh offering much larger portions for the same price, I don’t see a reason to come back here. Definitely not worth it for the value.

Updated Review: I decided to give this location another try, and I’m glad I did, as the experience was completely different this time around. Kirtan helped prepare my bowl, and I was genuinely impressed. The portion was nearly double what I received on my previous visit, and he was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Brand new place we tried on a whim, and we were blown away! Lots of unique topping options, great flavor profiles. My sister and I each got a bowl. We both loved the falafel - crispy outside, but the inside is nice and moist, and great flavor. My sister got the Mushroom Shawarma, and said it has a light spice kick, and was absolutely delicious. Our favorite thing we got was the Tahini Shake. It's incredible! Don't split one like we did, you'll want your own! Had a light but complex flavor, not excessively sweet, but it satisfied my huge sweet tooth anyway. The small pieces of chopped dates completed it nicely.
