I use the app to order pick up or order from the table all the time - it’s great - skip the order line! But, first time using at this location, we used the app for pick up. It quoted 14 minutes so we ordered.
We arrived and it was a crazy line to order at the counter. Doors jammed up. Seating area, however, maybe half full. I waited 25 minutes for the order to progress from “in process” to “complete.” Given the seating area was open, we sat and I waited for food near counter assuming it would be called shortly.
The manager told my party to leave the table - said to use a table was an hour wait (half the tables were empty), and I told him our order said complete and we were waiting for our food. He didn’t offer to check the status, just told us we had to wait an hour for table if we wanted to sit and eat with our food. It became clear they were only letting half the tables get used because they weren’t bussing tables. (Nevermind that a carry out order doesn’t need table service dishware and a runner).
After waiting longer, I asked the counter to check status of our order. She said the “ready by” quoted in the app was when they put the order in the queue with kitchen, so it was just a “suggestion.” No - that makes no sense and is not my experience with any other Nando’s I’ve been to. (Why would you want to tell people to show up to pick up food you haven’t started to make? Unless, of course, you don’t want to admit how terrible your turn around times are.)
We waited 50 min and still no food. At that point we had to leave because our ticketed event was approaching. So we canceled the order, the manager never acknowledged how ridiculous it was to quote a time in the app, and then blow past it, for multiple customers. Another group had preordered hours ahead for a specific pickup time and he was given the same run around, he kept waiting after we had left.
So - be warned - this location has no issue with quoting a time to app users and then quadrupling the time you’ll wait for it. If they were honest with setting their app times - people could make informed decisions on whether to order based on quoted timelines.
Or, if your kitchen can’t be staffed to full capacity, turn off app orders! Save everyone - customers and staff - the headache! I frequent Nando’s enough to know other locations do this! Terrible management, and just throws staff into an unwinable situation.
Instead, they’re fine wasting your time, letting you crowd up the restaurant, and then try to shame you for sitting at empty tables.
For a chain we find dependable for food and service, this location is a mess. We...

Went there for takeout. They took my order- whole chicken, 2 sides and a lemonade- paid for it and made me wait. Then the one who took my order told me there are no more chix. She made me wait again while taking orders from other customers. Then she came back and said they only had thighs and wings. I said I wanted the thighs. Made me wait again. Then she said no more thighs. She made me wait again. I didn't want wings so I said I'll just have at least the rice. She said sorry and they'll just refund me and give the rice on the house and other complementary stuff for the inconvenience. She was doing this back and forth while taking orders from other people. She made me wait again. Then the manager came and refunded me. Then she came with the lemonade and said she'll get the rice next. She came back said there's no more rice. She's just going to give me at least a cheesecake or a brownie. She came back again and said there's nothing. Then the manager made a comment like " What was I still doing there?"
This was late dinner, Monday May 9. It was my birthday and we're just visiting. My kids were tired and we just decided to take food out and eat at the hotel. By the time I left the restaurant with just a lemonade, all of the other restaurants are closing. There was nothing open on the way back to the hotel. My kids just had to eat whatever food is left at the hotel on my birthday!
I'm not sure if the manager was racist or just thought I was not an important customer as the other people there. I'm a very petite Asian.
To make me wait and promise me food that I'm willing to pay for, for that long, him being aware that every restaurant is already closing and making a comment like I was waiting for a freebee was just appalling! Like I should be thankful they gave me a lemonade! I still have to call their customer service and complain...
