When the temp climbs high, high up in the sky, higher than the tram peak it's something you have to adjust your day around. It's sometimes not even about staying hydrated, but staying properly hydrated. You lose more in sweat than just H20 and even in your daily whereabouts it's nice to stop by and get a soda, iced coffee or tea somewhere. I found this little gem on the way back to San Diego. I could not decide on Koffi or Palm springs Koffi as they seemed rated similarly, shared the name and all I could gather was one has sandy's and the other doesn't.
Having already eaten I just needed some refreshment for the long drive home.
Tea, tea oh glorious tea. They had a dozen fresh versions to choose from. Both sweetened and unsweetened. Tropical, citrus, exotic spiced, many I've never heard of before. Manually steeped, brewed fresh I simply asked the brewrista (made that one up, barista seems more coffee house folk), what her favorite flavors were. Peach was her classic suggestion, but when I told her I'm only here for the race, so wow me. She suggested a mint lime berry thing which was a combination of the crimson berry, mint and something else I forget. Complex to say the lease it tasted like its description, an amalgamation of it's ingredients each hitting the tongue at different times and spots. It was kind of a beast because my refill tasted much different, must be an exact science. Anyhow I loaded up my water bottles, grabbed a coffee cake that was spongy, not overly topped with icing and had a raspberry glaze. Not bad for a coffee shop, but overpriced.
Parking was ok, cool little shared courtyard. Service was enthusiastic and the suggestion was ingenious and creative. It's a great alternative to the juggernauts Starbucks and Coffee Bean, though not quite M&P, it's got a very ergo comfort feel to it. Prices are odd, some things are inexpensive and some are a bit astro.
If I drank coffee and super sweet iced coffee's then they have some really awesome sounding and thoughtful drinks like a...
Read moreOk. I do not like to give negative reviews but honestly this experience kind of takes the cake. On the positive Kofi appears to be nice and clean. It's almost 2pm and I was able to order a dark roast. Now here is where they lose me. I asked for oat milk. It's an additional expense (that is fine its more everywhere) here it is 95 cents more. I asked for a good amount and showed the girl with my fingers how much. When my friend ordered she asked for cream and sugar. The girl asks " is white sugar ok" my friend said sure. Then as we head to the end of the counter there are multiple sweetener and sugar options including her preference raw sugar so she said " excuse me could I get raw sugar instead" then we mention it was very confusing because she made it seem as if there was only one sugar option. She just laughed and shrugged and said oh more laughter. So I get my coffee and its leaking and over filled bit hardly any oat milk. I pour out some coffee outside and I go back in and ask for some more oat milk. The guy grabbed the almond milk and is pouring it into a cup. I said "is that oat milk" he says yes and sets the container on the counter next to the oat milk container. Honestly I was over it. I had asked for napkins and no one responded. There are many places in Palm Springs for coffee I will not return to Koffi. I guess if you are not a local they just don't care about you. Anyway the reason we went was to sit in the gorgeous outdoor area. Even that wasn't a go. There is yellow caution tape everywhere and it smelled like a sewer. That is I'm sure, not Koffi's fault its the property maintenance but the smell matched the experience. If they know you and love you I'm guessing they save all the good sugar and oat milk for you. Meanwhile if you're a regular visitor like myself or a tourist go elsewhere. The coffee was mediocre and the service was non existent. The prices are high and my experience says not worth it. Sorry I can not recommend Koffi. If I return and anything is different I...
Read moreLast Thursday at 10.25 i popped into the North location to grab a "quick" grab-and-go" bagel before i drove to Long beach for a meeting at 12.30. I had not eaten since 6pm the night before and was freaking hungry. I asked the older of the two guys for a bagel.. he immediatly turned and walk back to the kitchen before i could say that i dont need it toasted. A few minutes later he came out and charged me.. Another 10 minutes and i approached the counter to inquire and he said "... oh!, your bagel". I gritted my teeth ..took a deep breath and smiled. Then through the door I could see him him use a knife to take each bagel out of the toaster and with each half of the bagel dangling from the tip of the knife he walked past the kitchen door to what i presume is the prep table.. (yes, an odd way of handling food). Still, 5 minutes later he comes out and says "i dropped half of your bagel and i will start a new one". I told him that because of the 15 minutes it took i was going to be late for my meeting and could not wait.. i turned to walk away and he said "...would you like the oth.." i turn to him and gave him a look.. i told that i had not time to discuss options or wait for a refund (as it was i made it to my meeting at 12.28.. after a bit of speeding). I was not going to miss my meeting for $5. Maybe he should pay more attention and excercise due care in the execution of his job. I will now be taking Koffi off of the local suggestions in my Vacation Rental welcome book. And i, personally, will now go to other shops for my coffee and bagels and suggest that my renters do the same. Townie's may be a...
