So much potential, but one very big problem during my visit. The friend who booked the room was unable to join so called ahead to explain I'd be pushing closing time coming straight from the airport. The front desk person was very courteous despite my late arrival and potentially being kept after hours. (Thank you!) The room was accessed from outside with an old-fashioned key and was a stark, clean white, which I find soothing - bedding, headboard, side tables, walls, floors. The air and bedding seemed slightly damp, which I think came from the chilly weather and a fan/heater which hadn't been run recently enough to dispel the chill. It left an odd smell, not dirty at all, but one usually associated with dampness. Some linen spray would probably be a good solution. The spotless floors appeared to be a sort of enameled particleboard, unique. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. Nice big TV. But there was an infuriatingly mysterious rumbling that happened periodically throughout the night and into the morning, and it drove me absolutely batty. Not only was it audible even after turning on the room's fan, but I could actually feel it. Like every thirty seconds. That said, the fan was sufficiently able to drown out the noise so I could sleep, and it quickly took care of the damp feeling. I loved the glass blocks in the bathroom wall, which allowed way more natural light than one might expect. The sink didn't drain well, though. And the wifi connection was kind of awful. The next morning, I grabbed a super flaky croissant and jam from the tiny nook off the front desk, as well as some orange juice and good hot coffee. The courtyard was beautifully brisk, and when I wandered into the pool enclosure, the water was warm enough to steam as the morning sun shone bright and removed the chill in the air. After getting a super gracious assent to a slightly late checkout, I met a friend at Cheeky's for a delicious breakfast and mimosas. Altogether, the slow drain and wifi were mostly balanced by the service and amenities, but that rumbling was verging on unacceptable. Considering the otherwise great reviews, I'm guessing it's not a regular occurrence. Disappointing...
Read moreWe recently stayed here 2 nights and I was very much looking forward to this hotel. I have to say, I’m unsure as to why the amazing reviews. We stayed here based on the previous reviews and we were very disappointed in two aspects. 1 - Customer Service. It does not exist. From the moment we checked in, the girl working there sat at the desk, didn’t even get up to say hello. There was a sense of attitude and zero hospitality or friendliness from her. Secondly, the next morning another girl working (I’m using the word ‘working’ very loosely) was on her phone the entire time we entered the lobby to get food and tea. No eye contact, no hello, just simply typing away on her phone.
Not sure what the front service desk is there for.
I had asked at reception if there was a usb cable they might have had for me to borrow, the response was “nope”. A more appropriate answer would have been like “no, I’m so sorry.”
I travel for a living and I have never encountered such poor service at a hotel as much as this boutique hotel. The V Sonder has a contactless check-in with 0 human contact as they give you a pin code to your rooms and sadly it was a better experience than this.
2 - the room we had was on the main floor. You can hear absolutely everything from the room above us and the room next to us. You can hear every foot step and conversations, amongst other things, if you know what I mean. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. Any time anyone opened or closed a door our balcony doors would shake. Along with a generator for power washing from birba/Cheekys (that was in the morning when you’re trying to have an enjoyable time on your patio)
If you’d like a hot shower, you might want to hang out at the hot tub… (but please don’t bathe in the hot tub), the shower was lukewarm at best.
The property itself was nice, clean and well maintained. The pool and hot tub was a nice spot to hang out at both during the day and in the evening. The location is great. The staff at the breakfast bar was pleasant and helpful.
I hope the above things get looked at and improve...
Read moreWe recently enjoyed a terrific stay at this conveniently located yet peacefully secluded hideaway. The Alcazar has retained much of its 1930's originality and charm in its public spaces and jazzed it up with fun patio furniture, firewalls, neo-jazz ambient sound and pool linens. One can't help but be transported to a more tranquil state of being by the scent of orange blossom and jasmine that perfume the warm desert air. The rooms are more modern and minimal but generously sized, beautifully styled and thoughtfully appointed. The complimentary in toiletries were pleasant scented and pleasing to use. The complimentary morning pastries and espresso were extra pleasant treat. We met several friendly guests from around the country and experience fostered by the relaxing and intimate setting. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the convenience of the two dining options accessible to guest at Cheeky's for brunch and Birba for dinner. Both meals were delicious and service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. This was a surprisingly restorative experience. The pool was warm the Jacuzzi hot but not stifling. And though it packed the spa services of our usual area resort pick ease, comfort, and low-key atmosphere of this boutique locale we brings us back for more. Special shout out to the staff for helping our children to arrange a beautiful hydrangea, orchid, and succulent, floral anniversary arrangement in our room, in advance of our arrival. Such a treat!!||Lastly, as someone who uses mobility devises I found the property easy to navigate and at no time did I require assistance to access features of our room or...
