I had a lovely stay at the Thompson.
I was impressed with the room, the friendly staff, the pool, and the restaurant (Though Lola Rose was perhaps a bit understaffed and so service was at a very leisurely pace. I found it relaxing, but I sensed that some other people were a bit anxious about how long it was taking).
And of course the location is great.
The hotel is huge (and not even done yet) with a main building that opens onto a massive second story outdoor space, from which several additional two story "buildings" can be accessed. Needless to say, the rooms are a bit scattered. This made for a lovely ambiance (and lots of outdoor space for sitting and yard games). But I imagine this could be a bit confusing for folks. Impressively, they are having staff members escort guests to these rooms after check in to avoid confusion.
There were lots of little things that made me happy... The tea provided in the room was high quality, and they included proper espresso and coffee cups in the room (paper cups just aren't the same; I adore it when hotels provide glass ones).
Each side of the bed had 2 outlets as well as both a USB A and C port!
I know some folks are gonna complain about the bathroom- it has automatic lights which some couples detest. But it was laid out well, with lots of counter space and a huge shower.
Valet was easy- there was a tag with a QR code for retrieving your car. Though I get a little anxious wondering what the valet area will be like when the hotel is finished and at high occupancy (it looks like it will get congested and chaotic)
The pool water was an appropriate temperature given the heat, and though shallow, it was a decent size. The whole pool area seemed to have plenty of space and, due to misters and a high glass fence around the pool area, it was noticably cooler than the adjacent outdoor hotel grounds (it was over 110). I didnt order any drinks at the pool, but in the late afternoon while I was there, the bar had two workers who seemed to be doing a good job.
I had one of the best cocktails of my life at Lola Rose, and the menu contained a mix of affordable (some under $10) and expensive dishes.
For Hyatt loyalists- My globalist benefits were all taken care of without me having to say anything. I was upgraded to a room with a nice view of the mountains (the hotel isn't yet fully open, but I don't think they have many suites; so this might not be a place to expect a non confirmed suite upgrade) Breakfast and the amenity fee were automatically removed. I did initially get charged for the premium internet, but they quickly removed the charge when I pointed it out.
My one complaint... I wish the lights on the balcony could be turned off. I love sitting out at night, but it felt too much like I was in a window display 🤣 (plus a tiny bit of the balcony light trickled in under the curtain).
It was a great stay and I...

Frequent visitor to Palm Springs! Tried this property instead of our usual spots. This hotel should not be open yet. Concerns started immediately upon arrival with the very narrow, and inconvenient drive up to the hotel entrance. They keep their hotel car parked up front, leaving no room to maneuver other cars.
We arrived early, and one of our two rooms wasn't ready which is 100% understandable. We were told we would be notified when the room was ready. However, I was not notified and wheN I went to check on the status, the room was still not ready by the 4 PM check in time.
While we waited, we go to the main dining area and are seated. Keep in mind they are filming with blinding spot lights. Crew moving all about the restaurant and bar area. Then they ask us to move tables as we are “in their shot.” Very horrible environment to try and enjoy a meal. In the new location we had this blinding spot light shining on us from the left. It was a miserable experience.
When we finally get our second view room, the view is horrible. Definitely not worth the wait. And we requested a view room!!!
I went down to speak to the front desk. Who basically said they don’t have other rooms. Offered absolutely nothing to try show they care about us or our horrible experience. Working for a premium luxury brand myself who values our guest, I understand how you gain loyalty. No one at the front desk cared which is the worst thing you can do as a company… people interacting with your guests who don’t care.
We have since learned that ANY room with a window on the exterior is considered a "view" room. This is VERY misleading. Keep in mind, this view can be of dirt lot on the back side of the hotel. The "non-view" rooms have windows that look out to an enclosed patio. Anytime I've paid a premium for a view room in Palm Springs it is because it has the view of the local foothills or something pretty, not just a window.
Lighting in the room is motion censored and can't be adjusted. Sounds fine in principle until you are sitting on the bed reading emails and all the lights in the room turn out!!! OR worse, you're in the shower and all the lights in the bathroom turn out!!! Also, if you wake in the middle of the night to use the restroom, ALL of the lights turn on with motion and wake up anyone in the room, let alone now you're wide awake. HUGE FLAW of the property.
My family, in another room, ordered room service and besides being over priced, the cookies looked disgusting and presented horribly.
We have waited literally years for this property to open! They lost us as a customer in 4 hours. And don’t care.
DON’T STAY HERE!!! Stay anywhere else… We’ll… Not anywhere, just not here!
Pics of room service cookies, the crowded entrance drive, AND you can see the bright light from the film crew shining on...

We are celebrating my late husbands first anniversary of not being here on this trip. The staff was aware of all of this hoping they would have had a more warming touch when we checked in. Two of us are from this valley but now we vacation here. So first impressions are everything. ||Thankfully, the bellman team, especially Jesse super knowledgeable of the area & is always in good spirit Tom too, completely turned things around with their friendly, helpful, and professional service. They truly made us feel valued and set a much more positive tone for the rest of the visit.|We got a 2 queen room facing the mountains & other hotel room. The BALCONY is amazing, so spacious great views. The deco in the room and the lighting is done so well. Has a totally of 4 chairs outside a lawn lounge chair would have been nice touch maybe one. The mini bar is stacked & priced fairly. ||We headed to the pool, the music was so low I felt like I had to whisper. I asked a few guest around they thought the same. But the team cranked it up a bit and that was awesome! ||When we found our spots, a gentleman with radiant energy named Josiah asked us how we are doing, what are we here for, the whole shabang. THATS WHAT WE LOVE! |He took our order & was so attentive & proactive the whole evening. He gave us a true experience of what a warm welcoming hospitality should be like. We have a friend that does not drink but he didn’t make her feel left out & recommended a non alcoholic drink & she loved it & was able to be part of the “vibe”. Josiah’s enthusiasm is the face of this whole brand. As someone who has worked for Hilton ( Waldorf Astoria ) for 6 years now I write and get to stay in hotels for living he is someone I’d have running the show. We are here for the next few days I must say we are looking forward to the pool everyday. ||Diana at the pool did a very great job cleaning up after people left so everytime we turned to a day bed it was cleaned and looked so presentable. ||I think next team meeting have your receptionist have a more warm, positive, attitude & engage more with the guest. |A welcome drink would be a nice touch too for the price of this hotel. ||Josiah you made us keep our reservations here at The Thompson |We recommend you rent some bikes & have a good time thar was fun, Charlie the receptionist had a very upbeat energy we wished we got him on our first day. ||We have a couple more days to hoping we end it with a bang of hospitality...
