Our party of 6 visited Ellis Island BBQ on Wednesday, Nov. 26th. We made a reservation at 6pm for 6:45pm. Many of us, having experience in the service industry, understood being a larger party meant accommodating us properly. When the hostess was finally ready for us, she sat us at a round table for 5. Immediately we felt cramped sitting elbow to elbow and asked the hostess for solutions. She assured us that the staff could connect another table once it was free. So we continued with ordering mostly waters and some cokes before our meal. Unfortunately those beverages did not arrive until 20mins later. During that time a couple had left from a small 2 person square table and it was pushed up against the round table. As my boyfriend was transitioning to the square table with the seat he had already been sitting in, the hostess, without saying anything, pulled the chair out from under him before he could sit like someone would do in a prank. Thankfully he did not fall on the floor and laughing, told the woman "I need somewhere to sit." To which she sharply responded, "I'll get you another one." It wasn't immediately obvious to us that the chairs from the smaller tables were different and thought it rude of the hostess not to say anything before swiftly removing the seat as my boyfriend was about to sit. Once we were settled back in our chairs we noted how uncomfortable the odd table shape combination was. To add to the discomfort the small square table that had been attached was extremely wobbly which become more bothersome when our drinks finally arrived. We again asked the hostess about being moved. She gestured to the table behind us that seated 8 and said that she was originally going to give us that table but the party had not yet cleared out. And left without resolving our issue. We waited an additional 15-20mins before the busboy came to our table with napkins. Several tables, including the 8 person table and back area of the restaurant, had freed up during that time and we thought surely we can be moved to a more comfortable arrangement now. Before my boyfriend could get 2 words out to the busboy, he was rudely cut off. The busboy said, "If you have any questions you have to talk to the host." Pointing in the direction of the hostess at the front of the restaurant, indicating that it was needed to get up from our seats to ask her a question. He did not offer to relay our concern. Reasonably frustrated my boyfriend got up and made his way to the front of the restaurant. As he approached the hostess who was talking to the busboy, he and several other patrons heard the hostess exclaim in an annoyed tone, "Who?! The young ones?" Before she turned, wide-eyed, surprised to see my boyfriend standing behind her. "Yes! The young ones!" he responded. She replied, "We can't do nothing about it. I have other reservations on the list." "Oh, like the list we waited over 45mins on too?" he retorted. Our party had already taken note of the service that was being provided to other patrons in comparison to the lack of service we received. The hostess' comments confirmed that we were being profiled based on age and discriminated against. This type of treatment to paying customers is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. My boyfriend and I are two 28 years "young" multi-business owners visiting LV from Houston for a week. The other guests seated at our table were family. Before entering the restaurant we were fully prepared to enjoy our time at Ellis Island BBQ. Sadly, our terrible experience with the staff soured our evening and we decided against spending anymore money at this establishment as...
Read moreI have only ate in here but only once! But, let me tell you, I think about this place anytime I'm thinking of barbecue! I did have 1 Huge disappointment, that was, I had gone in around 4:30, they had just opened but 30 minutes prior, full house, of course! Well, I am disabled and its very hard for me, many times happening just after arrival! I needed to go back home, too difficult to stay upright any longer. I went in and asked for a menu so I could order and take it home. The receptionist young lady had proceeded to tell me that they do not allow for take-out! I have never heard of this, never, not of a regular restraunt! A Buffet, ok, but this type of ordering they don't 'need to'? I even offered paying a fee for the take out. She continued to inform me, as she motioned to the full house, that they didn't 'need' to offer take out, as they are very full! I never thought of that being an extra with that sort of business practice! I was and still am very confused by that thinking... Money is money and if I'm offering to pay a fee wouldn't that be more on the house profit side, as I'm not taking up any space, Very confused! Glad to hear that the restraunt is not concerned on making more cash... So, is this a positive business move? I personally think they cut themselves off when practicing such narrow thinking! They went from being my favorite barbecue that I was constantly wanting to a now sour taste, all cause she let me walk... It was a sad day that I couldn't be served... I had to leave and go home to heating up soup... Thanks a lot, for nothing.... If you are able to sit, BEST PLACE FOR BARBECUE!! If your disabled and have to...
Read moreWorst service ever and unapologetically unprofessional . It's absolutely unacceptable to be so desensitized to the versatility of the clientele . The super host clearly has a strategy for prioritizing customers that are closer to his cosmetically altered appearance. Yes the pale shade foundation base and almond milk contour, with pastel rose pink lip tint and extremely bleached blonde hair of the super host is quite the highlighted decor of the restaurant. Realizing now that someone that puts that much work into concealing his ethnicity would definitely be blind to any other race besides Caucasian. The unapologetic oversight of reaching around me and my family of 4 (after seating 2 other families and as we stood at the sign to be seated) , asking the family BEHIND us for their party size and seating them while we stood at the podium still waiting. Rude and unapologetic. Ironically we were THE ONLY AFRICAN AMERICANS in the restaurant at that time. Yes the service team is multicultural but the PREFERRED clientele is clearly non melanated. 8 years patronizing that restaurant, even when it was stand alone BBQ, when they took phone orders, through covid, through the transition and here we are again for the 2nd and final time being ignored and then glared at by the same host for the same neglectful service. Ellis Island I wish you continued success but this players card holder will take my chances elsewhere. BTW ... the ribs were the only thing warm on any of our plates but our server was nice enough to address and...
