The food was amazing.
We went at around 7:30 at night, and the place was nice and quiet with only 1 other table besides ourselves.
Mimi, the owner, came to greet us and she was a sweet, warm, kind person who makes us feel right at home.
We ordered the veggie platter, which is like a sampler for all the veggies options. It was delicious. Everything was so flavorful. The collard greens, pickled veggies, cabbages, and all the other bean based dishes that I forgot names of were all finger licking good. Mimi took good care of us and gave us a second servings of enjera, which we wiped the plate clean with.
If we were there with a bigger party and a bigger appetite, I would love to order more things off of the menu. So I think a second visit is called for.
The food was great, the owner was an amazing host, I'd say the only thing keeping them from being a 5 stars restaurant is the location/interior design.
I'm guess this is a small family owned shop, so the interior was minimum. Don't get me wrong, it's still comfy and cozy, but definitely not something that you'd see in a food magazine photoshoot.
Part of that actually is reassuring, because that screams "hole in the wall" type of a place where it's not fancy to the point that you need to make it rain to eat there, but instead just a normal people friendly price point with authentic food that you will keep coming back for.
Bottom line is, I would recommend people to visit...
Read moreThe food was amazing, go check it out. Only my second or maybe third time eating Ethiopian food and husband's first time. We had the lamb stew which they had as a special, I was slightly hesitant as I don't always like lamb dishes but I loved it. As well as awaze tibs which were my favorite (tender beef, onions and peppers in awaze sauce). And a lentil dish which I cant find the name of. Everything is served on top of a kind of spongey flatbread called injera and you tear off pieces of bread with your hands and pick up a bite of food with it. The sauces were spicy in that they had a lot of different spices in them, but the heat was not overwhelming. I would rate it a 5/10 for heat (I'm sure it's hotter if you eat the peppers but I avoided them). For dessert we had the baklava. Our server Emmy was great. The bill was I think $79 after tax before tip, which included 3 entrees and injera, extra injera to take home with our leftovers, two baklavas and two bottles of water, so I consider that a very...
Read moreThe owner overcharged me, otherwise I would have given 5 stars, because the food was good. I ordered a lamb dish plus two vegetable sides, since the main meat dish did not (as is customary everywhere else) come with any vegetable sides, and a glass of tap water. I was served the lamb dish, two small vegetable sides, and a glass of tap water. I was charged for two main dishes, instead of a main and two sides - an overcharge of $8. Plus I was charged $2 for bottled water when I had asked for tap, it was confirmed, and I was served a glass of tap water, with a bit of ice. So I wound up being overcharged by about 25%, and I do not think it was an accident. I didn't want an argument, so I paid it. But the food was very good. If you go, I would suggest you check the bill, and be prepared for a "discussion". And...
