The reviews, glowing as they are, don't do this place justice in my opinion. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere is top notch.
We sat in the treehouse. We'd seen this structure before when we'd walked through Crystals (the mall the restaurant is located in) and had no idea what it was, so we were pleasantly surprised when we entered to find out that the main dining room is located in this unique architectural feature. From below, you would think it's not that spacious, but feels very airy due to the open nature of the design.
The waite staff are the best at what they do. You feel very well taken care of without feeling watched or hovered over and the food is amazing. I won't mince words here, it's expensive, and everything is 'a la carte', but the portions are substantial and the sides are easily shareable.
I had the Chilean Sea Bass cooked "oreganata" style, which was amazing. Sea Bass is one of my favorite fish and this is easily one of the best I've ever had. My wife ordered one of the specials that was on offer, an 8oz Japanese Wagyu Steak. Words don't do it justice. It was delicious. It melted in your mouth and was just buttery, rich and savory. Not a trace of gristle, every bite was perfect.
Our friends ordered the roasted chicken which was excellent, a bone in ribeye with truffle butter which was almost as amazing as the Wagyu Steak for half the price, and halibut, which was also excellent and perfectly cooked. For sides we had sauteed asparagus, creamed spinach, gorgonzola mac and cheese, salt and vinegar fries and lobster mashed potatoes (we clearly ordered too much food). All of the aforementioned items were excellent but the standout was the lobster mashed potatoes. We're not talking about mashed potatoes with bits of lobster flavor, we're talking about mashed potatoes drenched in melted butter with massive chunks of lobster. Seriously, there was not a bit of lobster less than an inch thick in there. It was fantastic.
For dessert we again ordered too much. We had the butter cake (and you should too) which the waiter said was easily shareable by 4 or more people, but since I didn't believe him, we ordered two. We also had chocolate covered strawberries and Key Lime Pie, both of which were fantastic, but the butter cake is a standout!
Drinks. The wine menu is extensive and the beer selection was pretty decent too for a "fancy" type of place (which in my experience usually seem to look down on beer). The signature cocktails/martinis were delicious and, again, nicely portioned for the price. $17 seems pricey for a martini until you realize they give you the shaker with practically another entire glass full in there for a top off. They also have a nice selection of ports, dessert wines, and cordials for after dinner. I don't usually splurge on an "after dinner" drink, but I was in full on splurge mode that night, so I did. The waiter recommended a white dessert wine as opposed to a port since it would pair better with the butter cake, and he was not wrong. I had no idea what was good so I went with his recommendation, which was a Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos Aszu dessert wine. It blew me away. It was thick, viscous and sweet but not overly sweet and the flavor was a delicate array of fruit (apricot, hints of citrus and honey) with a creamy, slightly smoky finish. I immediately looked it up online and ordered a bottle for home, that's how much I loved it.
I can't reiterate enough how special this experience was to us. Our total for 6 people was a little over $800, but that price (shockingly) seems perfectly justified based on our experience. We would return here without hesitation, although we would definitely listen to our waiter next time when he says we might be ordering too much food, and if we were to show more restraint on our next visit, I think we could get out the door for under $200 (for 2 people), which as a meal for a special occasion would be more than...

Read moreWe had heard lots of great things about Mastros from friends in Houston, and we always enjoy Tillman Fertitta's restaurants. But Mastros in Las Vegas was a sheer disappointment.
The entire ambience an upscale steakhouse was non existent as the majority of the clientele had no regard for the "Dress Code". NBA jerseys, athletic shorts, stripper-type attire was the norm. With no regard for dress code, came loud and boisterous table behavior that was more fitting for a fast causal concept! My only thought was if management would have been enforcing the dress code, the tables would have been more than half empty. We are all about supporting the restaurant industry as they try to claw their way back from COVID shutdown, but if this is the way you're going to run your establishment, take the dress code down so future guests don't have the expectation of an upscale evening.
The food was un-impressive. We started with the tuna tartare, which featured tuna stacked on guacamole over a bed of crushed potato chips. While this dish had the opportunity to be a shining star, the guacamole was simply crushed avocado with little to no seasoning, and same for the tuna. While tuna appeared to be fresh, little to nothing appeared to be done in its preparation.
For salad offering, I chose the classic wedge salad, but arrived at the table with little to no dressing. I asked for some addition dressing which I was told was house made blue cheese, however, the presence of blue cheese was non-existent and resembled more of a buttermilk dressing.
For my entree I ordered the bone-in rib eye, only to be told 20 minutes after I ordered that they were out. Don't know how an upscale restaurant runs out of a regular menu item, but I deferred to the bone-in fillet. As far as highlights for the evening go, this was a close to it as it came. Steak was flavorful, however, I asked them to add a gorgonzola topping which I had to scrape off as it was way to overpowering. My wife ordered the sea bass, and while it was flavorful, it was overcooked as it did not flake away in sheets when she ate.
For our side, we chose the lobster mashed potatoes, after being talked out of the lobster mac and cheese by our server. We told her we were big mac and cheese fans, but she told us to defer to the potatoes as we would most likely be disappointed in the mac. I appreciated the honesty, but wished she would had recommended we just have regular mashed potatoes, as the lobster mashed were swimming in butter but only had a few pieces of lobster present. $39 lesson learned.
After all of that, we decided to cut our losses and pass on dessert. We love fine dining, but last night's $300 was a utter disappointment. I really think if Tillman Fertitta had walked into this location last night, I'm he would be making management changes...
