We decided to have our anniversary dinner here over two other restaurants despite them being a newly opened restaurant. We had hoped they had found their bearings since opening in June.
We made reservations for 2 for standard seating, not a high top or in the bar. We walked over and took the elevator to the 4th floor. Empty 1st hostess desk, but someone showed up pretty quickly. We were about to grab a drink at the bar, but then we're told that our table was actually ready.
We go see the 2nd hostess where we are taken to our seats. We are seated in the seating area across from the bar.... Already not too thrilled, a three seater round table. We squeeze in on the cushioned couch area instead of one of us being seated on a high backed stool.
We waited a bit after looking over the menus and waited a bit more. Romario came over and asked if Jáime had been over to get water orders, we said no. He took our water order and drinks and left. Then Jáime came over a couple of minutes later asking about water.
We decided on appetizers and entrées. Romario went into his pitch after we had had an obscene amount of time to look over the menu and had already chosen what we were going to order. It was unfortunate because maybe everything he had just said to me would have dictated our decision to eat something different.
I had ordered an espresso martini, and I did see that there were two options black or with cream, never had an option before. It came out black and was soo bitter, Romario said it was from the freshly brewed Ethiopian beans they use. I had just asked to switch to a different cocktail, and he said that because they were going to throw it out anyway he would remove it from our bill but would doctor it and see what I thought after. (Well it stayed on our bill)
They brought out pretzel bread batons cut in half with some nicely whipped butter.
We ordered, and then our appetizers arrived. From the initial sit down, it was about an hour when the calamari arrived. This was supposed to be a very tender calamari, but what I think was forgotten was size and cooking time. Thinner tentacles will Cooke faster than larger cut rings. Some body segments were lacking in batter, so they were overcooked and tough. The sauce, while tasty, should have maybe been served on the side. There was not a description of preparation. The sauce was all that was tasted. While I appreciated Romario's details about this specific type of calamari, it was let down by the kitchen.
We ordered French onion soup which was served with Swiss cheese..... wrong type of cheese to serve with this soup as it hardens so quickly and is not easy to use a spoon to cut into to grab a spoonful of soup, bread, and cheese. It was a large portion but not hot. The onions had not cooked long enough and still had quite a bite. Green onions were added in and the onions were chopped instead of sliced. We left quite a bit of soup and the hardened cheese in the dish.
Our filet mignons arrived, just salt and pepper. It had a heavy salt crust, at least mine did. Made my face scrunch and mouth pucker. I took a little roast garlic mash and a bite of filet, more edible. I ended up tasting the top and bottom of my filet to see which side was the salty, the top was the super salty, bottom was okay. I ended up cutting off the crust and eating the filet to make it more palatable.
The Brussel sprouts were very, very greasy, lots of overcooked leaves and harder centers. The mash was tasty and because they press the garlic it is not too overpowering. The mash was a pristine white color, and usually roasted garlic is a tan color. Not sure what magic was used to make such a uniformed mash.
Timing was off between courses and service. Check ins were infrequent, but I understand that they want to give privacy and such. Waters were never refilled but were replaced when I asked for ice. We looked over the dessert menu, but nothing stood out at us.
$313 check: 3 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2...
Read moreMy family and I decided to eat at Ocean Prime for our 2024 Christmas Eve celebration dinner. We made reservations prior to that day and were thankful that we did because the restaurant was crowded. The entrance to the restaurant is exquisite because you have to take an elevator to gain access to it - though it may not be special to others. Note: The elevator opens on both sides, so when you arrive at the restaurant level, be sure to turn around otherwise you'll look silly as you're standing there wondering if the elevator door will ever open (trust me, I know). When we walked off the elevator, we were greeted by the hostesses and met with the nice décor, furniture, and wine display. Since we had a reservation, we didn't have to wait long before we were escorted to the next station of hostesses. At that point, the level 2 hostesses (what I referred to them as), escorted us to our table. Kudos to all the hostesses on shift that evening; they were extremely friendly.
Our evening service started remarkably with Dylan who introduced himself as the assistant server to our primary server, Stephen (Steve H.). Dylan quickly served us water and ensured our water glasses were always full, which I appreciated because I consume a lot of water wherever I go. He was very professional and operated efficiently throughout the evening while serving our food and ensuring our needs were met (or exceeded). In addition, Steve performed flawlessly as well; he was very attentive, friendly, and showcased his knowledge of the menu. Needless to say, the service at this restaurant was phenomenal, from the moment we walked in, all the way until we departed.
We ordered the Post Beam Cabernet Sauvignon and Smoked Old Fashioned for our drinks; Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Lobster Bisque, A-5 Wagyu Nigiri, and Salmon Belly Nigiri for our appetizers; 8 oz Filet Mignon w/Lobster (add on), 14 oz New York Strip, Lobster Linguine w/Scallops (add on) for our main entrées; Jalapeno Au Gratin, Smoked Gouda Tater Tots, and Bacon Creamed Spinach for our sides; and Warm Butter Cake for our dessert. Everything...and I mean everything was wonderfully prepared/seasoned. Although I felt my New York Strip was seasoned slightly higher than what I am accustomed to, it was still marvelous. The Crab Cake was excellent, but I couldn't taste/feel the horseradish in the mustard aioli, as advertised on their menu. The Nigiri was surprisingly delicious considering I wasn't at a premier Japanese restaurant. All-in-all, the food and drinks were outstanding.
The prices were on the higher end, but well worth it for the quality of the food/service and ambiance. I was thankful that the music level was at a reasonable volume - I've been to some steakhouses where it feels like you're in a club and having to shout to have a conversation. We also noticed how you can hear people talking in the restaurant, but not necessarily hear what they're saying, and still have a normal conversation at your table without raising your voice. When we were done, we took a little tour of the balcony area and I'll tell you what...if you're able to visit this restaurant when the weather is fair, I highly recommend that you sit on the balcony. The view is great and there's heaters at each table for comfort (I'm not sure what it's like in the hot months). Unfortunately, we visited while it was somewhat windy, so we didn't want to deal with things blowing around and runny noses. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here...I highly recommend this restaurant...
Read moreMy wife and I have lived in Las Vegas since 1998 and have frequented multiple 5-star restaurant throughout the strip. We’ve seen many places come and go. Altogether, we’ve been to over 25 high end restaurants throughout the strip. I have a top 5 list, the top 5 best restaurants in Vegas. Ocean Prime made the list. We were 15 minutes late since we had a difficult time finding the restaurant, it’s tough to find. Once there we were treated like royalty. We had our 3-year-old daughter with us, and they even had a kids meal menu with Crayons and all. None of the other restaurants we’ve been to have this, it’s a family friendly restaurant. My wife and I having our daughter with us did not affect how we were treated; I saw nothing but genuine smiles from all servers and waiters. Now the food, the food was spectacular, a 12/10! I ordered the Sea scallops. The scallops were seared to utter perfection. They had that golden brown sear of perfection, exactly how scallops are to be enjoyed, the scalloped came with a bed of wild greens risotto, it was delightful. My wife ordered the Aji Tuna, I’m usually not a big tuna fan, but this one was heaven in your mouth, delicious, best one I’ve tried. We shared the Wagyu rib-eye, we were asked if we wanted the Wagyu cut for us, and we said yes. Most places wouldn’t bother asking or would have it cut without asking first. The Wagyu steak is the reason why Ocean Prime earned spot in my top 5. I’ve had dozens of steaks from high end restaurants, but this one managed to separate itself from all the others. The outside char had a distinct peppercorn taste that I’ve never tasted in my life, it complimented the steak so well. WE noticed that we didn’t ask the waiter how we wanted the meat cooked, it came out a picture perfect medium rare. Not more rare, no more cooked, the textbook version of Medium rare. The steak just melted in your mouth. We didn’t order any sauces or toppings for the steak. We’re glad we opted out; the steak was so delicious and crispy that it didn’t need any kind of sauce to compliment it. Lastly, my wife and I shared the roasted garlic mash as a side. This side is 3-way tied for best sides I’ve ever had in my life. One spot goes to Capital Grilles Twice baked potatoes, the second spot goes to Bugsy and Meyers steak house Lobster Mac and Cheese, and of course the roasted garlic mash, no order. The service was exceptional, I didn’t have to ask for anything. The waiters were vigilant without breathing down our necks. Joes, being the opposite, they hover over you like vultures. We were so full of dinner that we didn’t try out the dessert, but I’m sure it wouldn’t have disappointed. We did not plan this dinner at all. I called at 5:30 to make an appointment for 7pm the same day. We went to dinner here on a whim and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences of our lives. My top 5 consists of: Picasso, Capital Grille, Ocean Prime, Nobu, SW Steak house. Some honorable mentions include, Bardot, The X pot, Cut, Carne Vino, Bizarre meats, Sushi Zamba, Il Mulino, Scarpetta, Buddy V’s...
