I've thought about this review overnight because I want to be accurate and give the exact right review. Overall, it was a swing and a miss. BUT, there are some super bright spots and Prime COULD be five stars with some pretty simple improvements. Plus, many thanks to Shawn the manager with whom I spoke because he was very receptive to my thoughts. Best thing were the steaks and they were among the best we've ever had. The aged NY Strip was actually the best strip ever. So, for a steak house, this is obviously critical. Ahi tuna tartare... Fabulous. Beet salad...meh. Why not warm beets instead of cold to set off the flavors? Green beans were just about a minute or two undercooked so they were hot but very close to eating one you picked up in the market. Now, for the biggest food disappointment. The Truffle Fries. They were $25 (yes $25) for store bought frozen fries with not nearly enough truffle oil and the cheese on to was perhaps broiled to a solid consistency. At this price point, really? Easy fix... Fresh cut shoe strings tossed in oil and truffle oil with Parmesan (powdered believe it or not) and some fresh cracked pepper. Think classic steak frites and this would be a winner. Lava cake was okay and not homemade. Delicious but no wow factor. Last, the service was just off. Providing an experience is the name of the game and Prime just needs to get the staff trained on how to do this. One example, plenty of staff circulating past our table, glancing over at finished plates and such, but not stopping... Just cruising past. There are more examples but not worth detailing here. I have great hope for Prime. They have a great start with wonderful steaks. I sure hope they build off of that and, if they do, they'll be great overall.

Overall, pretty disappointed. Go to Ruth’s Chris steak house instead if you want a good tasting steak. Pro: The pianist was stellar. She created an awesome atmosphere. We sat on the patio but the window was open so we could clearly hear her. That was amazing. The steak was really tender. I will say that is a large plus. They did bring it out on the rare side, but the plate was so hot I could finish cooking my steak to how I like. Con: Bacon wrapped scallions were leaving much to the taste buds. They were too black which hurt the taste. And flavor was lacking. The dessert was also lacking flavor. The ice cream tasted like it was starting to get old, but not there yet. The small cake was barely warm, and I think microwaved. The steaks were disappointing. We got the bone in filet and the Wagyu. Both were extremely tender, which was nice. But the flavor tasted like butter, and that was it. They asked if I wanted steak sauce and I never use steak sauce because I like the flavor, but at this place we needed it. Seeing as the steaks are the climax, very disappointing. Do I regret going? If it was half the price, I would not have such a negative feeling. But at $275, I expected a lot more. I pay the similar amount or less at other steakhouses and get a better steak. Even Flemings in SLC is better. Sorry Prime! I was really looking forward to this meal.

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner tonight in the piano bar. The overall experience was wonderful and we will be back. Our server, Kate, was attentive without being over bearing. We did have a slight issue with our scallops but she handled it professionally and efficiently. Kate was friendly and generally a pleasure to interact with. All of the wait staff ensured they were thorough and didn’t miss an opportunity to table touch or pre bus. The Pianist was extremely talented and truly set the tone creating such a lovely atmosphere. We did order 2 raspberry mojitos from the bar and they were honestly better than we had anticipated, huge props to the bartender! The crab cakes were phenomenal as well. I’m not a huge fan of cheesecake but we were brought a slice of the most decadent raspberry cheesecake, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it! Needless to say this will be our new go to spot and I hope we are lucky enough to be sat in Kate’s section again.

For a starting note I just barely returned to my home in Lindon, UT right after the meal so my mind is very fresh on the quality of service and the price. For the price this establishment charges I expected a much faster paced service. We also had a group of 9 for my brother's birthday so I can expect some delay but there was a 30 minute wait for the first course (salads, bread, soups, etc.) That's just not acceptable for the total price we paid for the meal. There were only 4 people who even got a 1st course that should have taken about 10 minutes max! The next course was a bit quicker about 15 minutes. I got the new york strip 16 oz. steak cooked medium, I will admit they made a very tasty steak. The steak was delicious and done as requested, I am even willing to suggest that the steak was larger than 16 oz. which was fair considering the outrageous price ($42.00). The fact that the steak didn't come with any sides speaks volumes of how cheap this restaurant is, as a matter of fact none of the main dishes came with any sides. You have to pay approximately 15-20 dollars per side dish, that's ridiculous even for a rich person.

On the good side there was definitely a very good staff always keeping your beverage filled without asking which should be required for such a large fee to eat at the restaurant.

In all I have to say that unless you have a very heavy wallet don't waste your money. If you have a heavy wallet (100k+ a year kinda heavy) then don't waste your time because plenty of lower priced and fairly decent tasting establishments will provide much quicker service for an even better price. Last little note not to hurt any of the performers feelings there but I could provide much better live entertainment than that guy they had howling in the background, he was awful! Get a new gig already!

Because the food and waiter service was good the good half of me would have given almost -2 stars. However, I just remembered a few things that brings my rating down even further.

We asked to pay separate checks due to the arrangements of our group. We were told that you couldn't pay by separate checks, which is ridiculous! Why in the world would an establishment require every group that comes in together to pay only one bill? Some people may only have a credit card while others may have cash. Is the one party in the group with the credit card supposed to pay the total sum of the entire group on their credit card? It is possible that some people who eat there may not be rich, famous or both and may only have enough balance to pay for their own meal? That's just out right ridiculous. We explicitly asked if there were any other arrangements available and were told that our entire group must pay on one single bill.

When we were nearing the end of our meal, not when we were all done the waiters just started clearing off the plates of the few people who were done even before they had gotten up! I was still in the process of eating my steak at the time and a few other people were still finishing their meals. That to me is just pitiful and despicable service. Why don't you just tell your customers "well now that we have your hard earned paychecks get the hell out so we can rob the next dolts that come in!" I wish I could give it a -5 but due to this rating system I must give at least 1 star.

Our total bill was 360+ dollars for a very average experience. I definitely would have opted for Subway and save $50.00 getting much faster service and most likely a more filling meal too and even though the music they have in subway's isn't live at least it's on key. Subway is definitely better than this pit in the middle of park city and you'll get 10-20 times the amount of food from Subway for the same price.

I leave you my promise I'll never go back to this restaurant as long as I...

“Entitled” Local vs. Tourist Couple

I live in a ski town and frequent many of the local establishments, so I totally get what it’s like to know bartenders and managers by name and to have your drink waiting for you while you’re taking your coat off.

Encountered an interesting situation at Prime. They have a piano bar (the musician is the manager’s husband and he’s good!). They also will make you a reservation at the bar or in the bar area so you can enjoy the music.

We had a reservation at 8:15 and arrived actually at 8:11. A local couple had a reservation for 9:30 and arrived at 8:00. They were told that the seats were reserved, but, being “Entitled Locals” they sat down anyway, taking one of our reserved seats.

When we showed up, they were asked to vacate one of the seats. Instead of honoring their original reservation, the gentleman proceeded to stand next to his date and right next to me, leaving almost no room to move.

I’m tall and broad shouldered so enjoying the last night of our ski trip with my girlfriend with a dude about 2 inches off my right arm was not the idea of a romantic evening.

So we said something to the hostess. They spoke to the couple, to no avail. So on our evening went until finally there was a bit of a verbal altercation when the Mr. Entitled was a smart rat to my girlfriend. I’m glad he took the low road and signed his tab and left.

The food was OK. Ordered crab cake appetizer that came out in about 3 minutes had obviously had been sitting for a while. They were room temp & were sent back. Same for the creamed spinach with the steak.

So the food is OK. It’s the best place in PC for a steak, so there’s not a lot to push them to be better. When you’re the only game in town, unfortunately you can get away with stuff like that.

The “Entitled Local” presented them with a very difficult situation, no doubt. And that’s what comes back to living in a ski town myself. If I had acted like that, I should have been taken aside and asked to leave, or to come back at the time of my reservation.

At that moment we were both equals. Both spending a lot of money (they apologized profusely and gave no discounts), we both were there to enjoy the entertainment, ambiance and a good meal. It was tarnished for both of us. We had the reservation. Theirs was later.

Plus, for the friends who run the places I frequent in my ski town, I would never act that way to their patrons. That’s their life blood, and I would in no way violate that in such a caddy and disrespectful way.

Yes, management was in a bad position of their own making. Hopefully, as they review the game films, they will develop some different protocols.

Stop sending food out at room temp. Honor reservations. Develop a protocol for such situations so future guests don’t have to go through this. If you choose not to act, and put somebody through an uncomfortable evening, buy their dinner.

Will I be back? Not any time soon. Is food cost of about $35 worth a bad review? You make...

I reserved in advance for my wife birthday and asked for a special desert for my wife as I wrote this in my extra note with the reservation. I get a call to from someone that basically tells me over the phone that we don’t provide special orders for anything, but you can look thru the menu for a desert!! Anyway I thought after that I was a bit disappointed but decided to still go cuz I heard great food was waiting , well again for the price that I paid for my steak or for the whole dinner as a master fact … very sub par to the Texas Roadhouse near my house who can cook a steak just as good and much bigger for much , much less!! The servers they were great and just simply took care of us and I did happily give a great tip. Now my better tip to all of you who read this don’t go there for the food cuz you’ll be disappointed , I’ve been to 5 stars steak house and let me tell you 16oz wagyu steak was much tastier and paid much less then the size of my steak 12oz that was not worth $100 !!! Everything is over priced … one time deal for me and I will not recommend this place … very sorry that I did spend that much on a place that doesn’t deserve a good review. Oh the piano music was ok in the back ground but that still gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Mostly the food did taste ok don’t get me wrong but for the price I could’ve gotten that at a local steak house and paid less !! Try it out if you want too , unless spending over $400.00 for dinner is what makes you feel a high roller , then by all means please spend away. Oh yeah we don’t drink so there was no alcohol involved in this dinner so I can imaging what the bill would’ve of been with it!!! Yeah again not impressed if they tried with the food and price!! Service was great and again I tip well when we receive great attention from our servers and it’s the little things that make a great server. Ours was very detailed!! I thanked him for sure. Now the food was ok as for the price that didn’t portray quality for the...
