I have no idea what these 5 star reviewers were experiencing. We came to Baan Thai only because the reviews were so very high-- 4.7 out of 5 usually indicates really incredible!-- and the prices as reported on Google were $20-$30 per person, which in Park City would be eminently reasonable. Again, I don't know what these reviewers experienced, because it was nothing like what my family got. Baan Thai wasn't bad; it was just mediocre. I'd say that 60%- 70% of the Thai restaurants where I've eaten, including modest, local, family-owned places, have had better tasting food. Either the Baan Thai kitchen was having a ridiculously off night, or something is off with these reviews.
For appetizers we had lettuce wraps (with spiced, ground chicken); curry puffs; chicken satay; and fresh (unfried) spring rolls with avocado. The latter two came with the same sauces, a mediocre peanut sauce (how is that possible?) and some kind of soy type of dipping sauce. Only the chicken satay was above average. The spring roll was OK; the lettuce wraps were OK. No great flavor in any of them.
Incidentally, the lettuce wrap apps were $17. How could anyone expect $20-$30 average per person when apps are $17? I don't say that it's an unfair price for Park City; I say that it's being grossly misreported by some reviewers.
Entrees were just OK. Two Pad See Ew (one with chicken, one with shrimp, neither with much flavor). The shrimp one was $27. One person had pumpkin, curry, which was OK. One had orange chicken, which was described as "fine-- nothing special, orange chicken."
We got a mango with sweet sticky rice for dessert, which was adequate. Fine. Just like everything else: not particularly good, no great flavors, but fine.
Our bill for five people was $235 including tax and tip (they automatically added a 20% tip for a party of five, which seemed a bit presumptuous to me, but I probably would have given that anyway even though the service was pretty rushed). $47 per person, and that's with 5 people ordering 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, 1 salad, 1 tap beer and 1 dessert. And none of us ordered the chef specials, which averaged around $30, or any of the higher-priced entrees.
I don't want to sound mean-spirited. I'm just trying to give an honest account. People apparently have reported $20-$30 average per person, and there's no way that that's accurate. People have reported that the food is terrific, and unless we were just there on the worst night they ever had, that can't be accurate either. Service was frenetic-- the server left before taking all of our entree orders, and one of our party had to go track the server down to place the last order-- and folks were hovering to clear our plates and silverware. (After our appetizers the assistant server took away all of our silverware, and the main server didn't bring any new silverware with our entrees-- we had to ask for new settings.)
So if you want OK Thai food and you're fine with the prices that I'm listing-- the online menu seems a little bit outdated, prices are a little higher than what's listed there-- rather than $20-$30 per person, go for it. (It's Park City after all, prices are high all over the place.) I'm sure the Baan Thai people are nice folks and I wish them every success.
Just don't go because you're expecting an outstanding Thai food experience or super low prices. Honest reporting will lead to realistic...

Two stars, yes two stars for food that was incredibly deliciously. I originally had a 7:45 reservation but due to some shuttle issues from the hotel we are running quite late, I called ahead and asked how late they were serving. They said they were serving till 9 o’clock, but it would be best if I can get there by 8:45. We arrive at 8:30. The restaurant was mostly empty. Maybe there were two or three other tables present. We sat down and order a bottle of champagne. The champagne arrived promptly. I ordered dinner. I told him that we would start off with the Tom Kha soup and that they could follow that up with a Beef salad. For the entrées, I ordered red curry duck and Penang curry shrimp. The duck entrée arrived first? My partner inquired if that was the soup , no, it was the duck. I didn’t quite understand why it arrive first? As I was looking for the waiter to inquire as to why the entrées were arriving before the starter and the salad, the other three items arrived all at once. There were also three separate servings of rice along with the champagne bucket on the table. There was barely enough room for everything. It was a table for two, but it looked like it was a banquet for 12. i’m guessing that it was about 8:50 or so at this time. I must say that the items were beautifully presented. But with all this food on the table, we were just looking at each other and started to laugh. If this was the only mishap, we probably could’ve just chalked it up to kitchen mis-communication, but there were more serious errors to come. At 9:15 another waiter showed up with our check. She informed us that they were closing the kitchen and asked us if we could take care of the check, NOW. We probably had to only take two or three bites of food at that time and still had 2/3 of a bottle of champagne . At this point it was abundantly clear to me that they wanted us OUT ! By 9:15 they had hustled every other table out. I was determined to finish my meal at my leisure but by 9:20 there were six employees , all standing around our table within about 10 to 15 feet. My partner said she was becoming very uncomfortable and wanted to leave . I summoned the waiter over and told him that we needed five containers to go and cork for the champagne bottle, which was still more than half full. We filled up two large shopping bags with the leftovers and we’re out the door by about 9:35 I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER !!! They had informed me that 9 o’clock was their last seating , we were there by 8:30 . To have brought us a bill at 9:15 is completely unacceptable . Did I mention that the food that we did consume was absolutely delicious. And as I stated earlier, the presentation was exquisite. Ownership of this restaurant needs to train their staff and basic hospitality. This was a $200 meal. No one should be treated this way. So yes, two stars for delicious food that was...
Read moreOverall pretty good. Very over priced though. SE Asian food is notoriously inexpensive yet the markup here was astronomical. As someone who lived in SE Asia for a few months, I can say that the authenticity is not there. Regardless, everything still has good flavor.
Very very busy on a Saturday night. We had reservations (thankfully) but walked through a hefty line of people waiting to get in. It was really difficult to get any staff members attention upon arrival. Everyone in line informed us that no one has talked with them.
Parking is a nightmare in downtown Park City and anywhere around Main St. It took us 35 min to find a spot and all the lots were full too. We had to call to notify that we were arriving late. So happy they kept our table waiting!
We ordered chicken satay ($13) and tofu satay ($13) to start. We both enjoyed them a lot. Appetizers came out quick and I recommend ordering something immediately because the entree’s took a long time.
I got a Bann Utah Thai Tea cocktail ($14) which was incredible. For our meals we got the pineapple fried rice with chicken ($22) and the spicy eggplant with tofu ($20) I also ordered a Tom Kha soup with tofu togo ($11).
We thought it was weird how expensive the tofu or even vegetable dishes were compared to the dishes with meat. Definitely should not be priced the same.
My spicy eggplant had not even the slightest kick if chili and had equal parts eggplant than the other vegetables. The dish was not served with a typical spicy Thai basil sauce. It was some weird Americanized version.
The Tom Kha was not fragrant like it is supposed to be nor was it balanced in a traditional salty, sour, sweet, pungent way (which is the whole aesthetic of Thai cuisine).
Presentation was pretty. Staff had to be flagged down the entire time and you could see them hunting the tables waiting for guests to leave. There was an incredible amount of large tables and the whole place packed. The staff seemed really overwhelmed but handled it pretty well.
Not sure we would come back for the price point and flavor. We get really amazing Asian food in St. Louis, MO and they don’t jack up the food...
