I really love Nico's or well at least I used to. Sadly the quality of meat specifically "steak" has gone down hill. When I first began eating here a year or so back it was actual strips of meat.
Now it's just tiny bits and pieces kinda like I hate to say it dog food. Which I'd live with if I wasn't playing roulette with will it be to salty to eat this time or not.
Tonight it was just that. Again.
So salty that I got instant heart burn and it was to intense to eat after two bites out of sheer hunger.
It seems like (totally guessing here) maybe he makes fresh meat or the like salts while cooking adds it to the warming tray and the salt levels build up.
So if you're the unlucky one to have your food made from the bottom of the warming tray you end up with a pure salt burrito.
Which really made me sad to discover when I got home (live a tiny town or two away) because I really just didn't want to have to cook dinner as well as try and keep wicked salt induced heart burn at bay.
I usually try and get chicken as I've never had this problem with chicken. But he's out more often than not. Guessing cause people aren't to keen on the "steak" anymore.
Real bummer as there's not many decent food trucks around here.
Guess I'd just suggest saying you're out when you hit the bottom of the pan versus scraping it up or saving the insanely salty bottoms for the s#!+ faced crowd at closing time or something.
But sadly I can't continue to find out if I've wasted my money or not and will still have to figure out something to eat after buying...
Read moreWe were rolling through Pendleton and looked online for a place to eat. Found Nico's Tacos food truck and read the positive reviews. Asked the salesman at Pendleton Wool, and he gushed about Nico's! We were sold. Believe the hype! Wife had a pork tostada, son had a chicken quesadilla, I had a Taco plate with lengua, pork, and steak. Neither my wife nor son could finish. I pushed through my meal. All was delicious, and lengua was cooked perfectly! Green sauce is amazing; red sauce is definitely hot (too hot for us!). Guys were friendly. Eating area was decent enough and comfortable, but nothing fancy. I would highly recommend! If you found this review helpful or informative, please give...
Read moreWe ordered two meals and as soon as we ordered 10 people showed up which made me think this place really is good, people from all different walks walking up to his truck. The offerings are basic staples with a couple extras you dont often get through a taco truck, like sopes and asada fries. Which is pretty awesome! The two traditional taco truck sauces rojo and verde were so good, I used all three souffle cups on my meal! The guy seemed really down to earth and happy to serve his customers. If you're ever in the area try Nico's tacos! There is also a bar I believe right next door and a Filipino truck option next to his truck. Hands down it was delicious!...
