So if everything is great and the food, the service and the atmosphere were all exemplary five-star, why did I leave a three-star?
Well the reason being is because I got lied to.
It's been awhile since I've been and we're talking probably several years. Most of their sandwiches on their menu is listed as having the option of having a whole sandwich or a half of a sandwich. Few years ago when I came I recall that a whole sandwich was, depending on the sandwich, two separate sub rolls about 5 inches long with the meat and ingredients inside.
Now have you got a half you got one of those.
Today I went in for lunch and ordered a French dip, I've had it before and it's a fantastic sandwich really truly. I ordered a whole thinking I would get two separate pieces. Well my order came and it was just one piece of bread, obviously with the meat and cheese inside.
Anyway I didn't say anything I ate it and enjoyed it because it really is a fantastic sandwich. However as I was paying I asked the server, saying that I hadn't been here in a while and saying that I remember the whole sandwich being two pieces and not one.
She told me and I quote, that the piece I got was cut in half into two separate pieces, when trust me it most definitely was not.
I don't mind a restaurant that I've been to off and on for years changing portion sizes or even increasing prices to compensate for portion sizes. What I mind is when I ask a straight question that I get lied to and get a beat around the bush type answer.
In my opinion it would have been so easy to just tell me that " oh we've changed our portion sizes unfortunately however we haven't changed our quality" , and truthfully I would be more than happy with that response.
Obviously I'm leaving a bad review because of that. It kind of sucks in my opinion because everything from the service to the food itself to the potato salad to everything about hub Stacy's is fantastic. It doesn't matter if it's the one downtown or the one out in Perdido key, both of them are equally brilliant.
I'll go back again certainly, the food is too good to ignore. However hopefully next time I'll be less lied to or maybe she thought I was an idiot and I wouldn't be able to...
Read moreI’ve only been to the downtown location twice, and I have not been impressed either time. I really enjoy The Point location, however. The most recent visit to the location on Government Street was January 11, 2020 at approximately 2 PM. We had a group of 20 people, which we expected would be a welcome addition to the five total patrons they had prior to our arrival. This was not to be the case as a young, slender woman with brown hair in a ponytail was terribly nasty to many of us. It began by her informing two of our female members that they were “standing in (her) space.” Later several others of us and I were victims of the same treatment when she curtly instructed us to move away from one portion of the bar. Finally, I was departing the inside portion of the bar to walk out onto the patio when she came up behind me holding two trays of food for the patrons on the patio. She said, “excuse me!“, but her tone meant “get the %*#^ out of my way!” I proceeded to hold the door open for her so she could take the food to the table. As she passed by me, her facial expression confirmed my interpretation of her “excuse me.” I told her that her passive-aggressive behavior was not appreciated. Our group left after this last demonstration of the poorest service we’ve ever gotten. We are a local group that often patronizes downtown bars and restaurants. We have marked Hub’s off our list. Incidentally, the bar tender was not a problem at all and was entirely accommodating. It was just that one nasty young woman. But because Hub’s permits smoking on the patio, its food isn’t anything more than average, the bar and patio are not aesthetically appealing, and staff have never been remarkably pleasant, it doesn’t deserve anything more than one star when there are so many other options, not just in Pensacola, but in the southeast corner (like Alcaniz Kitchen & Tap, Dharma Blue, and Seville Quarter) in which to...
Read moreWhen you walk in- it’s your typical neighborhood bar and restaurant with a little outside seating area as well. Well decorated. Good feel to the place. I can definitely see this being a fun place on a Friday or Saturday night.
I started with some wings. They are always on special apparently, $0.60 each if you order at least 5. I had them hot. They were good- strong vinegar flavor, decent heat, lightly breaded, pretty tasty. We also started with the loaded tots. I’m a tots fanatic- I’ll be honest- these didn’t do much for me. Tots, cheese, and bacon. It could have used a little more.
The wifey and I each ordered a burger and fries. I had the bbq cheddar burger. She had the cheeseburger. Yo- I’ll say it. Maybe the best burger I’ve had on the Gulf Coast so far. The meat was flavored well, it was juicy, the bun was fresh- they were delicious! The BBQ Cheddar burger was on point! The sauce was awesome and the onion ring on it was killer. The fries were nice and crispy and well seasoned. I also got a side of potato salad as a suggestion from other Yelpers and it was well worth it. Robust flavor and very tasty.
I’m a fan. For sure. I live an hour away- but the burgers are...
