We walked in and the hostess made eye contact and we thought he was going to greet us as we said “hello” but instead he put his hand up to gesture he was answering the phone. Okay, what an awkward position to put a hostess in, but okay. He told us the wait was 30 min, but we only had to wait for about 20 minutes. We waited upstairs, outside. This area is great! Lots of comfortable outdoor seating and fun view of the pool and the hotels along the side. However, upon being sat, we waited 13 min before a server even brought us water. She told us our server would be coming to take our order and we told her we had already been waiting and we were ready to order. She proceeds to tell us she will only take our drink order and we wait another 7 min before our server comes to our table. We let him know our water glasses reek of a rancid smell like dishes being washed in dishwasher with an egg/fishy smell. He later brings us water in to-go cups because apparently even the big glasses smell. They had cloth napkins that have a very concentrated laundered smell. We ordered breakfast (brunch). We had “the classic” and the frittata, both plates were fresh and hot but cannot really say they were tasty, both were just pretty basic. Scrambled eggs tasted like powered eggs. Brioche toast was good with their strawberry preserves. The salted caramel Cuban coffee was good but the cup had that same dishwasher egg/fishy smell. The bar had several TVs with footballs game on and patrons all looked comfortable and that area was suitable if you’re looking for that vibe. However, in the dining area it is rather noisy because you have the TVs and the sound of distorted music playing over the TVs, along with the expected chatter of people, so it is hard to have a comfortable meal conversation. Our server maybe checked in on us one time and finally asks if we are ready for our check, which we were and waited several minutes for it. Unfortunately when he brought it to us and we said thank you, he simply said you’re welcome. This is the part when I am actively listening for “no thank you or how was everything?” just common customer service. He was not rude, but he was not extraordinary. As we watched other severs, they just all seem to not be too engaged with customers. Did not see any real customer/server interaction happening. I was not impressed by their food nor their customer service. (lack of) It’s early for them and maybe they are still working things out to improve the taste of their food and improve on the smell of their glassware. This review is based on the brunch foods/coffees we ordered. On our way out, we did catch a glimpse of lunch plates, which looked good but unfortunately we left disappointed and will not return mainly due to lack of good...
Read moreThe worst experience we've had in a long time. Sat out in the patio on a lovely afternoon and place was busy but not packed. Our server couldn't have been more awful. We ordered four of the mezcal margaritas - OFF THE MENU - and was told they were out of "the mezcal" they use and all they had would be Casamigas. We simply asked what the up charge would be and he didn't know but should be "around $20." Guys, we pay $20 a margarita but that should be one we've been able to confirm is a good one! So we ask to have a regular margarita but ask which tequila would be used to replace the mezcal and he was confused when we said...we just don't want rail or well tequila for a $14.50 drink so is it...Don Julio? Something else? Just let us know! Also...it's Saturday afternoon. You're out of the one alcohol you need for a main drink on your small cocktail menu? SEND SOMEONE TO PICK SOME UP. You had tons of workers standing around doing nothing.
He disappears and we figure he's asking the bartender. 10 minutes go by. We're thirsty and hungry but whatever. Manager comes out. (?) She says she hears we have questions about the tequila. Uhhhh...I guess? We explain and just say yeah we're fine substituting the mezcal for regular tequila but just want to know what our option(s) are. She says they'd up charge for Casamigos. Yup. Already covered that. Then didn't know what tequilas they had at that price point so we say Don Julio? Herradura? Does that work? She says sure. I'll skip to the end where they were an up charge that she didn't mention. They were $20 each on the bill, lol. After all that.
Margaritas were pretty good when they finally came. We order queso while we enjoyed outside and while that took 20 minutes...ok we're usually chill so no problem. We flag him down and order four cucumber cooler things -again, from the menu. We finish our queso and drinks. No waiter. No drinks. After ANOTHER 20 minutes, I finally go up to the bar and three bartenders are there chatting but not making drinks but I also don't see four cucumber drinks ready to be picked up. I ask if they know if they've been put in. She doesn't know but will check. She disappears. Another 10 minutes and the waiter finally comes out and ASKS IF WE STILL WANT THEM. Hadn't even been started. I'm so pissed. No. No we don't and we're headed somewhere else now because this was the absolutely worst experience we've had in a while.
This place is made for people who order Coors Lights and...
Read moreMy mother suggested this place on a trip home from Wimberley. I am a big review guy, I generally shy away from anything under 4 stars (especially restaurants) because let's face it, a lot of times the consensus of the internet on a business tends to be true. However! I will say I don't understand why The GOAT has such a low rating or why so many of the complaints (yes I read a lot of the reviews as well before showing up) refer to the service. I get everyone's experience is different, but we showed up with a party of 8 and were met with nothing but hospitality and a most accommodating atmosphere. Being on a road trip we had our dog with us, they allowed us to sit on the back patio with our dog. The manager turned on multiple fans for us, brought out a port-a-cool fan and pointed it at our table...and mind you we are the only people sitting outside. They were pretty busy, was around 1pm but got right to us and had us served quickly. Even brought out an extra pitcher of water with tons of ice in it for us and our fury friend. I wish I had caught our waiters name but they were super attentive and had a contagious spirit. I took my two youngest kids upstairs to the game room, had a blast playing some games while we waited on the food. In true Bright family fashion we broke some rules. We bowled before 5pm, so do make note of that if you go upstairs. There is a sign, we just didn't read it in our eagerness to play, so totally our fault. The waitress / bartender who came up there was very nice about it, told me bowling starts at 5pm or after however please finish the game we had already paid for. I will admit it was extremely loud so we just decided to move on to other games. All in all we had a great experience. The food was great and again I'd recommend The GOAT whether you're a local or a passing through. Very cool atmosphere, outside patio is large and tons of fans and the upstairs is awesome whether you're 10 or 42 lol. Thanks for a...
