Excellent! This is a neighborhood restaurant in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. I cant say enough good about this place, based on my one visit (so far). I will go back. Everyone in the restaurant was nice, attentive and friendly. The owner (I assume) came around and chatted at all the tables. It is a BYOB place. We were there for a late lunch. The restaurant was spotless clean and all the food we ate was excellent. We had the fried macaroni balls (unreal) and a large pizza with Italian sausage. All the food is made from scratch right there by the excellent chef. But it was in no way expensive. The pizza has a garlic crust that is light and very good (not doughy) The pizza was perfectly balanced with sauce and cheese (believe it or not this balance is hard to achieve). And to my delight it actually had spices already on it, just the way the old Italian pizza places were a few decades ago. For some reason these modern pizza places for the last 20 years seem to make pies with just cheese, sauce, salt and crust. I prefer some spices and Parmesan baked in, the way it used to be. You can walk to this restaurant from the art museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, Girard College and many places. I highly suggest you try this gem! A good, old fashioned, clean, tasty, low cost Italian restaurant like something out of the past. It is a nice, clean, safe neighborhood as well with a lot of young educated people, it seemed. If I lived there I would be at this...
Read morePhenomenal place if you live nearby and want a neighborhood restaurant vibe or if you are visiting from outside and want excellent cuisine. Since this restaurant opened (2006 or 2007?) I have made it a priority to eat here as often as possible. At the time I was living in the neighborhood with some roommates and we would dine here on a weekly basis. A pleasant family runs the operation which serves delicious pizzas, wings, enormous strombolis, and various other items. Strombolis are my personal favorite; there are about 8 on the menu and they're all so equally tasty that I have a difficult time deciding which one I'd like to order on any particular occasion. They've been a BYO since the start and, consequently, my taste buds fondly remember Italian dishes that complement a wide variety of wines. Wine pairs well with all of these dishes. Now that I've left Philly (temporarily, hopefully) I still will make it a priority to stop in for a meal each time I visit the city. Angelino's is the only place I recommend to people who ask me where they should eat...
Read moreA group of friends were going to the zoo this evening and needed to find a place close by for the 12 of us.
We went on to Google and searched for local restaurants. We came across Angelino's. I looked at the reviews and it got great reviews so thought we would give it a try.
Due to time restraints, I called to make a reservation.
We arrived, the selection on the menu was extensive.
I asked the waitress what she recommended since none of us were ever there. She provided a few options. I went with the shrimp and crab meat with pasta and red sauce. Let me tell you, it was, AH-MAZING! Too much for 1 sitting so have leftovers.
All 12 of us LOVED everything we ordered.
The owner was there and she chatted with us a while.
Small and quaint place. Quiet enough that we were able to hold conversations.
Will DEFINITELY be going back.
Trust the reviews. This...
