Brought me to tears. Shout outs to the owner Wubet, she has really created one of the best Ethiopian spots in Philly. A great selection of Ethiopian food for new enjoyers, I greatly appreciated that the items had their authentic names and translated labels to assist the uninitiated in ordering. While there may not be as many options as other locations, the dish, flavors, and dining experience of the food is nailed. They advertise a vegan friendly menu, but as a non-vegan I still found myself in tears at how good the food was. (it's not my first time eating this type of food with a friend of mine as we go out once a month to a different spot) Now the kicker to this spot is that they combine the spices with their cafe options such as tea, ice tea, and coffee. If you are a sweet tea fan, get their Ethiopian Ice tea... you won't want anything else. I've been a barista at a few cafés and I gotta say, whatever brand of coffee they use is spiced and brewed to perfection, and it's complementary when you dine in on Saturdays I believe, but please fact check by visiting or calling in. The coffee is so good that I had it black, which I never do. It was simply full bodied, and the flavor notes shined on their own. For a spot open for 5 months, the only issues have been the small venue and I say that as a way to endorse how much I hope this local business flourishes. I adore Guzo Cafe. Thank you again Wubet.

We enjoyed the food, artsy vibe and a warm welcome at our weekend lunch. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food. The owner explained the dishes and reassured us that they wouldn't be too spicy. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan options. We devoured a dish called Alicha: carrots & potato puree, collard greens, yummy sauce eaten with flatbread. There's a wide variety of hot and cold beverages that you can customize with your favorite type of milk. Our dessert muffin and pumpkin bread were also fresh and delicious. The cafe welcomes dogs and offers dog treats. The cafe also supports local artists by featuring works for sale on their walls.

It took 35 minutes to get our latte and tea after we placed our order and an hour to get our food which was incorrect (we had asked for a Turkey, egg, and cheese and I specifically said on a bagel, not an English muffin). Wouldn’t have even been a problem if the food didn’t take an over an hour. At that point, I didn’t want to get it redone and wait another 30 minutes. I’m not sure if it’s because I got the Ethiopian platter but, if so, they should warn you how long it will take. Overall, very disappointing experience that I was not expecting based off the extensive positive reviews that brought me here.

The Guzo Cafe is well located, across Catharine St. from Hawthorne Park. However, our experience, stopping by for coffee and a snack, was enough to convince me not to return. Although, there were only five other customers seated when we arrived, the lone staff member serving was completely overwhelmed. I stood at the counter for several minutes, during which time my presence was never acknowledged. No “Hello, I’ll be with you soon.”, not a word, or even a glance. When finally she came over to take my order (2 small filter coffees and a bagel) I wasn’t advised that the coffee would take several more minutes, because a new pot needed to be brewed. When the coffee was finally served, we discovered it was hazelnut flavored, not anything we had asked for. I don’t blame the person who was serving for our bad experience. Rather, the responsibility lies with the cafe’s management, which has not bothered to train and...

Just excellent! Best Ethiopian food is philly! out of this world food and atmosphere!!

TLDR: 10000/10

When i first got to guzu cafe, it was just to get water. I was met with such hospitality and smiles. I was given the most amazing coffee and ending up staying there for 30mins laughing and chatting with the owner. It’s truly a place that value its customer service and relationships and want to be part of the community. As a big fan of Ethiopian food, i knew i have to come back! When i came back, was met with the same hospitality, and i was highly impressed with food - the meat combo and vegan combo were incredible! The meat was insanely good and its by far the best shiro and the gomen !! The ice Ethiopian tea is a must! Very flavorful and Goes so well the their cinnamon bun !! They also serve American food but i only tried the cinnamon bun and it...
