Hung Vuong Supermarket — Local services in Philadelphia

(1). I have been a customer to shop at the Hung Vuong Food Market located at 1122 Washington Ave., Phila., Pa 19147 for yrs including the yrs operated by the previous owner.

(2). I like to stipulate the facts that I was so embarrassed, misled, no customer service common courtesy, & treated like a secondary citizen to the public by the Customer Service Rep., & her higher up in the afternoon on Fri., 06/13/2025.

(4.) I simply went to the store to request a refund with the paid receipt & the food item itself in good faith to show that the food item was Entirely Molded, & the label indicated to “keep refrigerated”, “No date for the best use on the Label” either.

(5.) I was told, face to face, by the said Customer Service staff as it follows:

A. No, it’s too long after the food item was bought. Pls see the receipt.

B. No, the item should have been stored in the freezer. Pls see the information on the Label. The food item Wasn’t in the freezer in the store when the item was bought by me.

C. No Refund! The said higher up stated that the food item could be exchanged this time Only, and No Exchange or Refund if it happens again!

D. And the said higher up further stated that it’s OK if it’s reported to the police (She meant, Authority, City of Phila., Department of Health, Food Protection.)

E. It’s shameful that the poor customer service consideration, no common courtesy, don’t care attitude were all demonstrated to the public! The results are just hurting customers/people, business, communities, & divides our good culture from where we are from & in the U.S.

I want to love this place because they have a nice array of options for Asian groceries and produce (southeast Asian, Chinese, Korean… you can find conventional and super ethnic stuff.) tons of drink options from Asia. It’s not as crowded as the grocery stores in China town.

However their stock is spotty regardless of time of day and day of the week. Expect basics like cilantro to be out and empty shelves. Meat selection picked over. Dumpling wrappers? Technically a large selection if it was all stocked but always be prepared to compromise.

The organization of the grocery is not intuitive. Generic labels for three aisles named “seasoning”, but like one seems to be more like Chinese dried botanicals … but don’t assume it’s clumped by region. For instance all the fish sauce is together from various areas of SEA. But Thai curry? 2 aisles away from Vietnamese / Chinese curry.

The bbq meat counter is mid and slow. It’s edible but you’re better off going to Chinatown for proper duck and roast pork. The meat is cold and dry by mid afternoon.

Not to mention they have all the tarps and plastics covering all the refrigerated and frozen food an hour before close so it’s 100x harder to find what you need in their picked over stock. They don’t give you a closing heads up like target so they just wait until 8pm to announce they’re closing the clerks scour the place to tell you to check out. I would have been done a half hour ago if you guys didn’t essentially close the place an hour before...

This is one of my favorite Supermarket. I've been coming here since 2005. This is like an International Supermarket, you see people from all cultures/nationality. I started coming here because of Vegetarian products. They have numerous varieties to choose from, many you'll not find anywhere else, such as salmon, duck, shrimp, beef chunks, lamb chunks, vegg chicken chunks, and numerous, numerous others. Seaweed salad (fresh and frozen)

They have Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, and numerous assortments of anything you desire. Fruits and vegetables to make certain dishes but you can't find anywhere else they have spices and herbs and numerous teas, desserts, seasoning, sauces spices snacks...sea food including squid, meats, dried mushrooms, and Fresh, as well varieties of TOFU. *International ice creams

Hispanic, Asians, Jamaican, African Vietnamese...or just someone looking for something different... Looking for specific foods... LOOK NO FARTHER, THIS IS THE PLACE TO COME.
