(September 2015): Nom Nom Ramen recently reopened its doors after renovating their interior. While I've been having issues with quality (see old review below) over the past couple months I decided to give them another chance. The appealing decor was the most apparently change and when we arrived we were seated by a server. If you've been here before, this may sound weird as Nom Nom has always been an "order at the desk" kind of place. The service was very attentive and informative, and I decided to upgrade my pork belly (butabara) to pork cheek (tontoro). I highly recommend it. The quality that had been absent in their ramen for so long is back and improved. In this visit Nom Nom Ramen has assuaged all my past criticisms and I again cannot wait to come back.
Old Review (June 2015): Over a year ago, Nom Nom Ramen would have easily received 5 stars. The price and quality of the ramen makes for a great meal at an excellent value. However, within the last year the quality seems to vary from day to day. A few times I was disappointed with what I received. A restaraunt is as good as it's worst meal, and lately Nom Nom Ramen has been struggling to be average. If you go, try the Pork buns along with you choice of Ramen, they have been my favorite part of coming...
Read moreI just want to be clear: this is the best ramen you can possibly get in Philadelphia. Period. I've had all of them including numerous ramen places in Tokyo and Osaka.
I've had this Ramen more then ten times. I usually get the Karai Toro Niku. When I come with my girlfriend we'll order buns too but usually I'll stick to the Ramen.
Sometimes I come for dinner. When I worked at Comcast I'd walk over from the Comcast tower and have it for lunch.
I've never had a bad experiance. Don't waste your time standing in line elsewhere for a worse experiance. Just don't do it. People will rave about others but they mostly don't have any idea what they are talking about.
Bonus points: for a more authentically Japanese experiance bring yourself an ice cold can of Kirin, Asahi, or Sapporo which will typically be available as in ice cold draft at Ramen places in Japan. Unfortunately the backwards Pennsylvania alcohol license rules prevent the best experience the world has to offer.
Trust me no beer goes down smoother then after your mouth is on fire from some spicy silky smooth rich...
Read moreNom Nom Ramen is a ramen shop that is more or less tucked away out of sight and practically a hole-in-the-wall type of establishment. The older man wearing an “I ❤️ Nom Nom” shirt (I assume may be the owner/manager) was extremely friendly and gave us great recommendations for our first trip there. We got the pork bun sandwiches for appetizers and they were absolutely delicious. The sauce they used was sweet with a little kick to it and the pork used was pork belly. I had the Aka Nom Nom ramen and my girlfriend had the Pork Belly Tonkatsu with Shio style broth. I have only been to a few ramen shops in my life and by far this is the best I have ever had and I’d be hard pressed to find one better than this one anytime soon. Their broth is simmered for anywhere from 30-36 hours depending on what type you get and that amount of time makes an absolutely stellar flavor profile. The staff is very friendly to boot and I recommend this place to anyone visiting...
