My wife and I stumbled on this place when we took a mini-moon to Philadelphia last year. As soon as we walked in we knew what to get as gifts for the family watching our kids. We also picked up box for ourselves, and we were glad we did!

What we really loved were the bon-bons. There were lots of interesting flavor combinations that we'd never tried before, and they were all delicious and beautiful. I loved that they had single origin chocolate bon-bons, which is something I had never tried before.

The girl who helped us was so nice and helpful as well. She was very patient and answered all our questions.

What made me really want to write this review was the incredible service that I received while trying to get a box for my wife's birthday. I noticed on the website that they asked for up to 5 days before shipping. I was curious about this, so I called up to see if this could be expedited. I got to speak with Joey, who explained the shipping process. As it turns out, there is a lot of thought that goes into the shipping of the chocolates to ensure that they arrive in the best condition. I live in Arizona, and they take that into account to ensure that the chocolates don't end up sitting and melting in a UPS warehouse. Also, Joey even helped with the distribution of the dark chocolate assortment to ensure that my wife got more of the chocolates that she really loves.

Joey put me in touch with Alex, the shipping manager, who helped me to come up with a plan to get the chocolates to my home quickly and in great condition. They actually arrived ON my wife's birthday, which was perfect.

These guys went above and beyond, and this box of chocolates is one of the best presents I've ever given my wife (her words, not mine). I will definitely be ordering...

Disappointing af. I had a group of 8 with me, Sunday funday with the family from outta town. I noticed a lady staff served the customers in front of me drinks in cups from the back. It was finally my turn after they checked out we asked if they got hot chocolate. Lady told me it was closed due to co workers not coming in. So I just purchased assortments of chocolates. Got home talked to my boyfriend how disappointed that they didn’t have the drink. And realized they definitely had hot chocolate because the lady served hot drinks from the back to them. Also customers that purchased the “hot chocolate” purchased the hot chocolate mix behind the counter. So I’m assuming the staff didn’t want to make 8 drinks for my group but it was only going to be 2-3 people ordering it. Left a sour taste in my mouth realizing what happened. I only came for the hot chocolate after hearing about it and the history about this store. Let’s not forget to mention everyone was caucasian and we were poc. Lady staff was being racist or she was lazy to make 5+ drinks. Highly...

Shane's is a wonderful confectionery with a wide selection of sweets, featuring both classic and unique varieties. The service is always wonderful and product is always a high quality. The aesthetic of building, decor, and staff attire are all very in keeping with the Old City location.

Prices can be a bit high compared to the simple Hershey's or Cadbury sweets, but are roughly in line with other housemade confections. The Chocolate Café in the back of the store is equally appealing in style and quality, but does fall into the same pricey category.

Ultimately you are getting what you pay for; if you want a cheap, sweet treat go to a nearby Wawa for the hot chocolate & candy bar or maybe a Starbucks. However, if you are willing to spend a little bit extra you can come to Shane's and get some remarkable housemade confections and watch as they make your delicious hot chocolate...

Three doors down from its sister store, The Franklin Fountain, is the Shane Confectionary. When you walk in your nose is filled with the amazingly delicious scent of CHOCOLATE 🍫🤤! And we were welcomed with warmth by another outstanding staff who loved their job. Being greeted with such friendliness really makes me want to support the store. And support it we definitely did! We were offered samples of different products we asked questions about and the staff had no problem explaining everything from the history of the store to each individual item being sold. A great benefit is that you get a 5% discount at the Shane Confectionary for buying something from The Franklin Fountain. Another great benefit is that if you purchase a hot chocolate (Yes! They make homemade hot chocolate!), you get 20% off a can of hot chocolate! Mr. Eric Berley was also here so we took a selfie!

Shane Confectionery is one of Philadelphia’s best-kept secrets—and a true gem for any chocolate lover. As the oldest continuously operating candy store in America (established in 1911), stepping inside feels like traveling back in time to a whimsical, Willy Wonka-style chocolate shop. The scent of fresh chocolate fills the air, and every display case is packed with beautifully crafted, mouthwatering confections. I visited twice during my trip—once to try their incredible drinkable chocolate (which I highly recommend), and again to pick up a box of assorted chocolates. That second box didn’t even make it a full block before I devoured every last piece. Whether you’re searching for a treat for yourself or a sweet gift, Shane’s absolutely deserves a spot on your must-visit list.
