Plus two stars for the environment which is lovely, and service was good. We went during restaurant week, which may skew my review as a result of the limited menu and perhaps hasty cooking methods being employed due to there being so many more patrons than usual.
Still - I'm reviewing the food here and it was not good. Many plates were shared amongst the table since none of us were particularly enthusiastic about our dishes, hence the knowledge below about nearly every restaurant week item on the menu.
Wine was a $16 retail bottle marked up to $60, reviews online were ok and it was fine for the meal. The server suggested a more expensive bottle with "higher acidity and tannins" albeit worse ratings, which, ok, it COULD have been better but I decided to go with my gut.
First course: Two of my party received the Granfusilli dish, two the gnocchi and one had to settle for a pretty depressing Caeser after the mushrooms ran out. She is keto, and the mushroom dish she was looking forward to the most. Now, I'd expected the pasta to shine - but I suspected these noodles came from a box. The gnocchi tasted nice and light. The sauce for the Granfusilli was nice but didn't offer much to the dish.
The main courses were all overcooked except for the veal, which was surprisingly tender and flavorful. I should have ordered the salmon, which was my mistake, but the chicken was poorly cooked and a bit cold. I know how good chicken can be, and it's a good barometer for a good restaurant. Now I know. The pork was incredibly dense and chewy - I'd liken it to a brick. The beef did not have flavor and was dry. The risotto was ok, but not remarkable.
Dessert was a good sampling of what I presume is smaller iterations of their regular desserts. Each was nice, although the lemon was too tart and sweet - an impressive feat for such a small package.
All in all, I was there for the friends we came with, so the night was a success. But if you're looking for quality Italian, make something at home or go somewhere with a bit more heart on their plates. None of the food here...
Read moreMy group and I attended an event here recently. If you ever heard of a “dining in the dark experience” or want to attend one in the future, don’t. Obviously the group that rented out the top floor of this establishment to host this event Is responsible more than any. I just feel as if the restaurant should hold some responsibility.
We were first greeted and found our assigned tables. We began having slices of bread and butter while a glass of Prosecco was poured for us. At this time a woman with a microphone ordered us to put on the sleeping mask provided. Rules were announced, one rule that stuck out the most, “no photos!”
The woman on the microphone announced our first entree was being served and my famished table dug in. This plate was a child’s size portion of dry chicken in a medley sauce with potatoes and a small portion of spinach. If I had taken a picture, it would have been questionable. Second entree was... dessert! That was it. But not after having to sit through our host sing a song? Yes, while waiting for our second entree this woman sang to probably fill in the time that was supposed to be a 90 min experience.
I would just like to finish this off by saying I paid $250 for 3 people and we left hungry. We ordered 2 beers per person and a round of tequila shots before leaving, this was an additional $75 plus tip! We began at 8:30 and finished at 9:33 ( not 90 min). The three of us work in the food industry and have for a long time, so this was just sad. I felt taken advantage of and only could laugh when the eyewear was collected and the hosts had already graciously removed themselves from what was sure to be a stampede of snicker hungry samaritans. I hope this establishment is made well aware of what happened and if you continue to cater for or affiliate with this team of thieves you...
Read moreTerrible experience with restaurant week. Avoid this place!! Went on my three year anniversary with my boyfriend and the restaurant week menu featuring a “four course meal” was NOT honored. The server initially told us we had to pick a pasta and a meat and then we wouldn’t be able to get the appetizer - which I was originally okay with but still bummed they had advertised it incorrectly. Then the server came back and told us it’s actually appetizer and choice of pasta or meat. At this point I wasn’t sure what the true story was and it felt like they were making up rules as they went. I saw a different table receive their food and the portion size of the pasta was extremely small. I had only picked this place because of the four course meal. It’s also not BYOB and the cork fee was around $40 so I had to purchase wine by the glass. The cheapest glass was $12. We decided to leave without even ordering dinner due to the massive disappointment they brought us. We quickly made a reservation for La Viola Bistro (which is where anyone reading this should go instead, it never disappoints and it’s BYOB). We tried to pay for the wine and leave and the loser server charged us an additional $3 for the glass of wine. I had to ask him to adjust the price and it ended up taking forever to finally leave the godforsaken place. What they clearly should have done is comp my glass of wine, and I wouldn’t be writing this review right now if that had happened. The manager clearly was in ear shot of my conversation about how unhappy I was with my experience and did not take any steps to correct the situation. Do not waste your time, money, or appetite...
