I was passing through philly on friday after years since moving away in 2019. I walked by Spice 28 and just had to go in as I remember they served one of my favorite martinis. The French Pear. I'm not a martini girl as I like my vodka club or whiskey on the rocks. But I was always excited to visit spice 28 and have this cocktail. I sat down at the bar at 4:07pm. It was very confusing who was the actual bartender. The only person I could Identify was the bar back putting away the dishes. Three other individuals behind the bar all seemed overwhelmed and it wasn't too busy. A server walked by and I told him that I would just like to grab a drink. It said someone would be with you. He walked away and returned with silverware, a plate and a glass of water. 4:15pm rolls around and the woman behind the bar comes over and checked on the woman sitting next to me at the bar and then walked away. She didn't even acknowledge me. So I just waited patiently. I've been in the industry for 15+ years. So I thought maybe she is just having a off day, I get it. 4:24pm rolls around and I am still waiting. Finally I said excuse me. She didn't even look at me and then said "Yes". I said can I order a drink. She said "go head" still not even bothering to look at me or cone over to me. I was blown away. 4:38pm rolls around and I see her standing around. No urgency whatsoever. At one point she was arguing with the host. I then see her make multiple other drinks as I am still waiting. It is now 4:46pm and I still do not have a drink. I just got up and walked out. That was by far the worst experience I have ever had in this industry. Maybe they don't have the best clientele during happy hour and she was over it or something. Oh well get over. That is the industry. I have dealt with the exact same thing. However I've learned that in this industry you greet and welcome every single person that walks in the door. You never know who you are serving. I was only going to be there for 20 minutes at most and I am a very generous tipper because I am aware that I was taking up a bar seat for one drink.
Whomever is overseeing operations should get rid of this person. She clearly hates her job and doesn't know anything about guest experience. This is not the industry for her and she has way too much attitude to be the...
Read moreI have gone to Spice 28 multiple times and have always loved there food the duck is delicious. Unfortunately, the food didn't over compensate for how uncomfortable my friends and i felt the last time I went this past Saturday 12/17. I went with my fiance to celebrate a friend's birthday all of us are of color. We got there around 9 and were rushed stating to order quickly because the kitchen closed at 930 of course we understood(everyone wants to get home after a long day) we ordered food and drinks the waiter then walked by saying last call stating if we wanted anything this is the time. Around 925 (aka five mins before the kitchen closed) another group comes in just so happens they all were of non color(by looks anyway) the waiter proceeded to service them with no rush at all. I literally tried to think of any possible answer friends of the waiter no or at least not evidently so. The fact that there party was the same size as ours. Maybe because I just got back from business and was tired from the trip, but all evidence pointed to color. We were all so enraged we wanted to just leave. We finished our meals paid and left. Sadly, I think this will be my last time there. And will not suggest anyone of color to go...
Read moreI’m giving two stars because the food is amazing here and has been every time I’ve ordered. The reason I’m writing this is to say that the younger guy on the phone is very rude and needs to learn customer service skills. I’ve been ordering online to pickup multiple times and this time in particular they gave me the wrong order which I picked up on my lunch break from work. I noticed as soon as I got back to work that they had given me the wrong dish. I called immediately to let them know and the guy on the phone was dismissive about the whole thing and was telling me that no I ordered that and I told him I know what my order is and it is not what I ordered even when i gave him my order number. He continued to argue and I had no choice but to walk all the way back to clear it up. When I got there the main older guy was so nice as always and saw my receipt of what I got and what my order online said and immediately apologized and confirmed a mistake was made. Things go wrong with online orders I get that but to be so unapologetic and accusatory to your customer is unacceptable. Please learn how to treat...
