There's no excuse why this church should not have a regular Traditional Latin Mass. Center City needs a Traditional parish. The Franscian friars are a nice bunch, just a little too fixated on mainstream Novus Ordo. As a for instance: I attended Benediction in the downstairs chapel. It was holy and solemn when the priest, in his cope, was praying the Latin and doing the incense, but then they had a lay woman come up and read some scripture. This was NOT necessary because there were only 10 people in the chapel at the time. The priest could have done this. The obsession to have lay people intrude and be a part of every liturgical service is weird. This chuch also has a Young Adult Community Mass. This to me means a Mass with guitars and hymns that are more popular culture than sacred. Can you imagine the Eastern Orthodox having a Young Adult Community Divine Liturgy? Not on your life. Get back to Tradition,...
Read moreMore closer and very traditional church located in downtown Philadelphia. This church was recently updated and remodeled in case the Pope would stop by. On the first floor when you come in from the parking lot, there was a little chapel with the St John Newman body like at the altar. Coming up to second floor , you could enter the big and very beautiful Church with full of status of saints and Virgin Mary statue. From the back you could see it magnificent all the way to the main altar . As I was told this main Church also just recently redo the inside. The streets around the church were mostly very narrow and one way streets,so finding parking spaces I think it s little inconvenient. But beside all those little technical things, it was beautiful church to...
Read moreHad a generally great experience with our wedding at St. John's! Father John was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. The church is beautiful and in a prime Philadelphia location. The wedding coordinator was not there the day of, but Brian was able to fill in and assist with our needs, which we greatly appreciated. I will note that we had a very unpleasant experience with the music director, Annette DiMedio. Her piano fees were very high for a 30 minute ceremony, and she told us we had to pay for a cantor as well, despite the information we had in writing from Father John stating otherwise. We ultimately decided to pay the church's fee in order to use outside musicians solely to avoid having to deal with Ms. DiMedio on our...
