We decided to eat here having never gone before and wanting to try it. The menu is small but still has plenty of great options, even some for vegans/vegetarians. They give you a lot of coffee when you order it and the food is pretty good but not super exciting. The service we received from our waitress was bad! One younger girl at the front who gave us waters and seated us was very nice, I actually ended up having to get my check and to-go boxes from her since she was more attentive than our server. Our waitress however was incredibly abrasive and I did not appreciate her at all or her service!!! Every thing she said was rude and the way she said it made me want to not even be there. She was mean with her actions and the way she spoke and responded to us. She harshly grabbed my menu to point at something when I simply asked a question. I asked if I could have cheese on my grits and her response was: "WELL it ALREADY has lots of milk and butter." Like I know how grits are made, I didn't ask what was in it, I asked for cheese. Like who in the world responds like that? If you want to go around judging people for every descision they make, waitressing is not for you. I asked to have my hash browns brown, indicating clearly that I wanted them extra brown, and that I do not want hash "whites" and I was given the same exact hash browns that my boyfriend ordered, and they were more white than brown. I specifically stated I didn't want hash whites and she didn't even note that. I really liked the vibe of this place but sadly I have more reason not to return, service like this is a waste of time and never appreciated. I would never want her service to be a part of...
Read moreClassic upscale diner experience. You'll get leveled-up breakfast standards and you'll leave stuffed and satisfied. Perfect for the morning after.
First, I had to try the Fishtown Scrapple. On the menu it says the "scrappletizer" is world famous, clearly their flagship dish. The presentation was exceptional: a crispy square of whitefish scrapple resting on a tomato, a spicy pink sauce underneath, one sunny side up egg on top. Honestly, the scrapple was a little bland. You can't taste the fish or the traditional allspice and sage. I wasn't unhappy, but I also wasn't impressed.
My son had some giant chocolate chip pancakes with turkey bacon and cheese eggs. The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs were moist, the turkey bacon was crisp without being dry.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were big and fluffy, but they were a little under-seasoned and there wasn't much buttermilk tang. The gravy has great sage sausage flavor, but it was a little too thick.
The home fries were the best thing I ate. Sulimays does them right: boiled, chilled, cut, fried. They have that perfect mouthfeel where the outside is crispy, but the inside is buoyant and creamy...not mushy or mealy.
If I go back I'd probably order sausage gravy over home fries with some eggs on top.
Fancy diner food with big portions is a well-trodden formula that will always satisfy. Sulimay's pulls it off admirably. Nothing will blow your mind, and some things require a big shake of salt & pepper--perhaps some hot sauce from their giant collection--but still, it's a good breakfast spot with heavy-handed Philly, Fishtown, 215 area...
Read moreSo disappointed in the waitress that was acting like a crazy woman. We ordered take out food. We were told to come at 10:45. I asked the woman for a total over the phone since they only take cash. She said I canât give you a total you have to get it when you come in. I thought that was odd but I look past that. When we arrived at 10:50 I thought wow thatâs a little bit of leeway time I hope my breakfast doesnât get cold. When we arrived probably be another half an hour. At that the other sweet young girl from outside came in and I asked her to see if they could check on my order she ran back and it was sitting back There. The woman then proceeded to scream at all of us and tell us everybody go outside nobodyâs allowed in here unless youâre sitting down! When we got our order home it was wrong anyway we are missing items. The food was ok. The White waitress Was so vicious and mean to us I will never go back. A couple people in line so they shouldâve went to the coffee bar because she was just out of control rude! People were walking away from the outside as we left the building because of the way she was handling things please if you want to continue in business with the good people of Fishtown get rid of that awful miserable person or at least teach her how to be a courteous public...
