Read moreWe visited a couple of weeks ago. I've been to the one in Scottsdale before and loved it. My parents flew in from Atlanta and saw Bootleggers on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, so they were eager to try it out. When we arrived, there were only two tables with two people each at them, and about three people at the bar, so not busy. The host greeted us and was incredibly nice. He took our drink order, brought our appetizers, and brought half of our food order. He seemed to be doing the most work of all front of house staff. We ordered the crispy rock shrimp for an app, which was amazing, and the fried mac n cheese balls (delicious). When the entrees came, it was only my parents entrees, not mine or my husband. We figured it would just be a few minutes. About 10 minutes later the host notices that the server only brought half of the food, and we could hear him asking him about it. Then the server goes to check, and the host followed him and returned with my husband's meal and mine. A bit odd and frustrating that our meals were received almost 15 minutes apart. My parents both ordered brisket, and while the flavor was great, it was very dry and overdone. I ordered the Notorious Chicken Sandwich which had great flavor but was, unfortunately, very dry as well. My husband got a burger ( I can't remember which one) and said it was edible but bland. The sweet potato fries were delicious, and my dad ordered the Jack Daniels Brownie for desert and enjoyed it. I'm giving them 4 stars because 3 just seems too low. I personally won't return to this location, but the host was phenomenal and the appetizers were fantastic. However, the main courses left a lot to be desired, which is disappointing when it's supposed to be a great smokehouse joint. Plus, the entrees being brought so far apart doesn't allow you to eat dinner with your party...which defeats the point of going to...
Read moreThis was our first time here. We were intrigued by the menu items. However, the online menu had no prices, which I thought was odd for a bar that serves barbeque. What do you have to hide? I know there are many fine dining places that don’t list prices, and as the saying goes, “I you have to ask, you probably can’t afford to eat here”.
The first menu item that jumped out at me was a bacon board for $26. This includes 5 pieces of bacon and pickles, mustard etc. Wow! We didn’t order it, but you can view pictures of this online and you will have a hard time matching the price tag with what you get. We ordered the mussel and smoked salmon apps. I counted 10 mussels at a price of $15, the salmon was $16 dollars and it couldn’t have been larger than 3 oz. Both came with toast, which was nothing special. Had the toast been made with some quality rustic bread that would have helped. The salmon was extremely dry. Smoking meat or fish does not mean drying it out. My wife had 2 very tiny salmon tacos that literally had one tiny strip of salmon on each taco.
Our bill was $70 before tip, and the bar portion of the tab was only $16, which was very reasonable. We didn’t even have any dinner entrees either. I don’t like to complain about prices. I just want to be informed and not surprised. An owner can charge whatever they want, and the customer can choose to pay it or not. The fact that the place was half empty tells me I’m not the only one that thinks the place lacks value for your dollar. First and last...
