Amazing food in a beautiful restaurant with the friendliest staff! If you are in the Paradise Valley area, this place is a must visit for lunch or dinner! I usually get the Pad Thai with chicken at a spicy level of 3 and no peanuts but every now and then I switch it up with Suki Yaki soup (the best soup if you are feeling under the weather or when the weather is cold and freezing).
Last night, we had the Crab Wontons (I also highly recommend their fried egg rolls. They are the perfect amount of crisp and served hot right out of the fryer). The Crab Wontons were served hot and easy to break in half to enjoy both the Crab stuffing and the crispness of the wonton wrapping. It comes with a sweet and sour sauce for you to pour on or dip in. The sweet and sour sauce is also good with rice if your entrée includes rice.
With that note, both entrées we ordered include rice so they gave us a bigger bowl of white rice. The BBQ pork spare ribs is beautifully cooked and just a perfect amount of Asian BBQ sauce that bursts in flavor in every bite. It comes with a sweet chili sauce but honestly, it compliments the ribs but not needed for how well they are made. The entrée comes with chunks of pineapple, some cucumbers, tomatoes slices, and lettuce. The curry is highly recommended. Inlove their red and yellow curry with chicken and if you like the mild/medium spice, I recommend a level of 2 or 3. I love my rice in the curry but it is my personal preference. I was so excited to start eating that I forgot to take a picture before I added the rice to the curry. Rice is served separately so you can choose how you want to enjoy the curry. I don't mind if my rice becomes a little soggy but absorbed with that curry flavor; amazing.
Austin and the ladies are always nice and welcoming with every visit. There is a new staff member, Welbie (I hope I spelled his name right; the bodybuilder guy) who we had the last two visits. Very humble and friendly. All of them are just down to earth good people. We enjoy coming to this business because it feels like home and coming home to a nice cooked meal.
They also offer take out and the wait time is reasonable depending on how much you order. They will give you an estimate pick up time when you call in.
Worth mentioning: I recommend the Thai Tea and make sure you stir it with your straw for the full flavor. I also enjoy watching the milk mix with the...
Read moreI absolutely love great Thai food and I've eaten more Thai food in my life than just about anyone else I know. Through the years, I've become friends with several Thai restaurant owners (mostly in Seattle) and have really enjoyed a plethora of excellent Thai restaurants in the city.
Sala Thai has been oddly inconsistent to say the least. Their Tom Ka Gai soup was pretty good at my original visit, albeit the taste was unconventional (tomatoes??) and had extremely small shrimp (as in, like 5) instead of prawns. The next visit, it was totally bland. Also, their Pud Thai beef was lacking in flavor, texture, flavor and complexity. The beef was not a good cut of meat, nor was it properly prepared to minimize the toughness of the cut (rubbery). Adding more brown sugar to the meat marinade doesn't net a softer, better tasting meat. Prepping the meat and cutting it into thinner pieces (as traditionally prepared) may have been an improvement, but tough to tell. The last takeout I got from there (about a month ago) was absolutely terrible and I literally threw it all out (and wasted about $60). Oddly, the service and staff have been ironically inconsistent, just like the food. One staff member was really nice (younger, Caucasian waitress who was totally sweet and really helpful), while all of our other encounters with their staff members have varied from indifferent to quite unfriendly. Unfortunately, the food won't keep you coming back and the service certainly isn't helping that situation. Truthfully, 2 stars is already a bit of a gift...not...
Read moreDec 14th, 2018, I wanted to take wife to Bootleggers but as I was driving I noticed Sala Thai. I visited more than once 2010 to 2011, when resided around the corner. So I said to the wife, let's go here. So we get in and sit down. Not the place remember. The service is not good at all. This day, the service was absolutely terrible. I felt sorry for the little gal waiting the small amount of tables as she seemed all over the place. Was not very attentive and you can tell she did not care. Then, after sitting for 30 minutes she comes and brings us an appetizer in which we ate, not bad. But 20 minutes later she comes and says the system went down and she had to reprint our order. I was like wait, didn't you write down my order? What's up with that? Anywho, we decided to pay for our appetizer and my tea I could have made at home and went to Bootleggers as we should have in the first place. We had great service, great food and a great evening at Bootleggers down the street. We wont ever visit this particular Sala Thai Restaurant again but their are other Thai Restaurants in the area where...
