Hands down THE BEST breakfast/brunch spot we have in downtown PHX - Roosevelt Row Arts District area now!
Outstanding service with food to match at this unique location situated inside the old Circles Records store on Central Ave. This location provides some of the friendliest and attentive servers and staff that I've experienced here downtown. A much needed and welcomed addition to the area! I'm all about supporting quality establishments that employ quality, friendly people and who provide ridiculously delicious foods, beverages at very reasonable prices such as this place does.
I live in the 'hood and went by on Grand Opening day, just by happenstance, and decided to have a late brunch/lunch there. I didn't have to wait for a table and was seated immediately. Much appreciated! As well the two servers who waited on my table were nothing short of phenoms. The first server was super courteous, well trained, and he was very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions on the spot that I had prior to ordering and throughout my meal. (golf clap - thanks man!)
I had decided that I was done making decisions for the day and asked the second server who came over to take our order to surprise me. This was after I had asked her what her favs were and she listed off 4 different items from the menu. All sounded appetizing and her palate seemed to be similar to mine given her reco's, so I had asked her to do so. Instead of declining or scoffing at this, she embraced it and was thrilled that I was giving the decision to her to make. For me, this is a sign of a true pro and of someone who understands quality customer service.
A plate of the breakfast tacos filled with hash browns, eggs, onion and cheese with pulled pork added and a hollandaise sauce and salsa (?) on the side was what arrived. Um....SCORE!! She made certain all sauces were on the side as I stated my only requirement is nothing spicy, not even moderately. Beyond delicious and wasn't even one of the items she had mentioned as her go-to's. I was impressed by her and her happy willingness to make a selection for me. She later confessed she was nervous about the selection but turned to all smiles when I raved about how perfect of a selection it was for me and how pleased and thankful I was for her doing that for me. It payed off big time and I'll be letting her surprise me more often with food when I go there.
The first server surprisingly gifted our table a free Cinnamon Bun Pancake that was seriously ridiculous in how good it was. The dish is very sweet but I am often a fan of sweet foods. When the meal was over he also provided the table with a couple of complimentary pancake cards for my next visit. So unexpected and not necessary given he had already provided the table with the free pancake. Another sign of true quality and of someone who cares about providing quality service to others. Something I wasn't certain existed to this level in Phoenix, but these people but a bright light to my day and gave me assurance that quality does exist here. Kudos to them for that and I will always be a supporter of them.
I returned the next day, the day this review was written, just to have a plate of those delicious cinnamon bun pancakes and some fresh squeezed orange juice. Again Delicious! Plus as a bonus the same girl who had served me the day prior was present and was my server again. We had a great rapport and it was noted that I am her first favorite "regular" at this location and that we are friends now. How f-ing sweet is that and such a great thing to hear from a person you respect just after one encounter. A new friend was made and I hope to have similar experiences with any of the staff I
If I were going to wait in line for breakfast or brunch anyplace downtown or in Roosevelt Row, this would be the only place I believe is well worth it and I wouldn't baulk at it for a moment. Cant wait to try more of the flavorful and delicious offerings this place...
Read moreDo you enjoy a generous helping of attitude with your weekend lunch? If so, then come on down to this Snooze and get your fill! Checked in with the app on Sunday (5/30) and arrived at the tail-end of the recommended window (1:28pm, IIRC). We were informed by the hostess it would still be another 15-20 minutes, which begs the question: why even have a check-in app? But I digress...Did the hostess apologize for the additional wait and suggest we get a drink at the bar while we wait? Nope. Instead, she seemed annoyed by my asking if we could. It gets better.
As we stood there sipping our drinks with another couple waiting to be seated, I couldn't help noticing that there were multiple open tables (at least two 2-tops and one 4-top) in my direct view and probably others elsewhere. No problem, I thought, we'll be seated any minute. Nope. As the time elapsed and even more tables cleared out (it was now probably 1:45-2pm), a couple of women entered and were seated almost immediately as we continued to wait. Admittedly, they may have "checked-in" before us, but it definitely looked fishy. I finally went up to the hostess and kindly asked if they were enforcing social distancing policies or whether they were short-staffed. She seemed perplexed by the question and curtly answered, "No." I explained I was asking because there were clearly multiple open tables. Her response was a somewhat defensive, "We're just controlling the flow," or something to that effect. Gimme a break: I'll wager some of my lower extremities that if we were there during a real rush, there wouldn't be a single empty table and the servers would simply figure it out. I've been a server and that's the job.
We were finally told our table was ready (no kidding, it had been open for at least 10-15 minutes). And that's when we had the "pleasure" of the hostess' male side-kick, with his closely cropped on the side blond hair and jean shorts, escorting us to our table. "Here's your table," he graciously informed us (sarcasm intended).
Listen, we may not fit the demo for most customers at this Snooze, and we're totally cool with that. But GTFOH with this host & hostess dynamic duo acting like they're doing US a favor for being there. You're freakin' hosts at a breakfast place. Get over yourselves. We've eaten at Snooze in Scottsdale multiple times and always had good experiences. The food is always great and we've never had service issues there. But if you'd like to mix in some attitude with your breakfast experience, this is definitely your spot! Seriously, please tell your hosting duo to get over...
Read moreI would give this place zero stars if I could. Allow me to explain.
I'm a Phoenician from the area, and I support all of our eateries. If you look over my review history, you'll notice that I take satisfaction in each and every one of them. All of my images and reviews have received over 4 million views. I've had a variety of dining experiences. The worst experience of all went to Snooze by a long shot. When I arrived at 11 a.m., there was quite a crowd. We inquired as to how long the wait would be. She told us we'd have to wait approximately an hour. We opted not to stay and took a stroll around the farmers' market. By the time we returned to our original location, we had decided to give Snooze another chance. The audience had thinned out by that point. Two couples were sitting on the patio, and there were plenty of interior dining options. Right in front of us, a couple had been seated as soon as they walked in. After that, it was our turned. The young lady stated that there will be a 45-minute wait. A lone woman with her two dogs stood behind us. She was seated right away. My husband decided to approach her and inquire if she had made any prior reservations. She said, "No". We were taken aback!!! What!! Wait a second what exactly happened right now?!
We didn't look bad, either. My explanation had nothing to do with a little perfume, make-up, or a great wardrobe. I didn't want to bring up the issue of racial profiling. But, to be honest, we believe that was what had just happened. The hostess, as well as both parties, were white. Being Hispanic, my husband and I had some reservations about having just taken place. As a result, my husband returned inside to question the hostess about her reasoning. "I thought you said you didn't want to be seated outside?" she inquired. But, to begin with, she didn't even give us that option. My spouse declined the service, so we took our money to FEZ. Yes!! FEZ was well worth every dime we spent. See my review for more information.
Oh, and I did phone to inform the manager, Jeremy of the situation. Perhaps he should retrain his front desk host on how to treat guests of various origins and ethnicities better....
