The only issue I had with the restaurant is that we were a party of 10. We did not know that Phoenix did not separate checks for parties of 10. Why? Who's is made to figure taxes and gratuity for 10? Is that not a part of the services we tip for? So our server had a little bit of an attitude when we asked her to separate our checks. It would have been nice to know that before they sat us that they could not do separate checks. We come from North Carolina on a business trip we had no idea this is how they do business here. We all paid and somehow my money came up missing. My friend seen here looking for something on the floor. So we noticed she dropped a receipt on the floor and my friend says it's right there on the floor. It was a receipt. But she says thanks that's not it. Well she comes and says there's money in the book just the receipt, but I know I left $50.50 in the book. When I explained this to her she says there was nothing in the book and left the book on the table and walks away. So I get up, I go to where her cash register is look on the floor to see if my money fell. I start looking through all the check holders and I find my money and my receipt inside one of the check holders. I just don't understand how she could have missed that. When I bring her the money inside the check holder I said here you left it. It was over there sitting at your register. She says oh. I'm sorry my till's already been closed out. Do you need change? I said yes . My issue is you made me feel like I lied. You walked away for me to handle on my own and then you asked if I need a change because your till was closed. How did you close your till if you didn't have the money for my check. How dishonest is that? Considering if you know I didn't pay you how or why would you close the check. This was humiliating, how could she embarrass me in front of my coworkers as if I was in the wrong like I tried to steal from you. It's a good thing everyone seen me put that $50 in the bill holder and most importantly know my integrity. But does the black kettle know your integrity? She also tried to say I had closed all the credit cards at the same time that was a lie. She had already left those credit cards and didn't hesitate to remind us we still had 3 open checks. Which still wasn't properly split because we had to split the check...
Read moreI had a really bad experience at this restaurant. I have had several friends recommend it as one of their favorite spots to dine downtown. I went in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch with a friend. It wasn't busy at all. The first thing I did was ask our server (I'm afraid I didn't get her name but a nice young lady with glasses) about the bread pudding as it looked amazing from the pictures I saw online and wanted to know if it contained raisins or not. Our server assured me it didn't and that it was entirely made in house, from the bread to the caramel sauce and everything in between. I told her we would definitely be doing that following lunch. I ordered a pretzel to come out first, followed by the Irish Curry Chicken, and my friend ordered the club sandwich with no mayo. We waited for a VERY long time with no communication from our server. Eventually the food came out (all at once), and my friends sandwich did have mayo on it. I would have brought this to our servers attention but she had not checked on us until we were ready for our bill (It seemed like she had a group of friends on the patio as that is where she spent the majority of her time). At that point I let her know that our order came out incorrectly. She dropped the bill she said that she had let the kitchen know about the request to hold the mayo, but they must not have seen it. There was no follow up on the dessert that we had spoke about and at that point we had lost interest, so it wouldn't have mattered. I will definitely give this place a second chance. I really enjoyed the atmosphere inside, and the food was in fact delicious. I hope this was an isolated incident, but the first impression left a lot...
