WOW! The best seafood restaurant in Miami I ever experienced!!! Restaurants like this are extinct in Miami. A typical old-school restaurant that does everything right, from A to Z. Starting with the waiter, Nick. He made us feel like a friend from the moment we arrived. He passionately explained how they do things at Captain, and we were impressed. They serve fresh local seafood, and if they bring something like from Maine, they also assure that the seafood is fresh and rapidly shipped. I have to stress that the PRICES ARE CRAZY ATTRACTIVE for what they offer!!! Even the bottles of wines are super affordable! For appetizers, we had Lobster Nuggets and Stuffed Mushrooms — delicious! The entree we had the 1/2 lb Caribbean Lobster Tail. $34!!!! Insane!!!! It was served deshelled, which is convenient. Also, Nick told us they have a crazy sushi chef who only picks center-cut fish and goes to the market himself and is super passionate about it. So we ordered the Dragon roll, and it was great! It was only $10!!! I still don’t believe it! For the dessert, Nick recommends Bread Pudding w/ Jamaican Rum Sauce… WOW, what a delicious bomb that was! Mouthwatering!!! Last but not least, they make everything in-house, all the way down to the sauces. They also have a seafood market building next by, so that explains everything. Even the bus boys were exceptionally on top of everything. All in all, I am so happy I found a legit seafood restaurant that has quality seafood for an affordable price, plus service that is extinct in Miami and a good atmosphere overall! A MUST WHEN IN...
Read moreI have been dining here for over 40 years and never have I left disappointed. On 8/13/24 I visited to celebrate a friends birthday and I invited another friend and his wife who were first timers. I arrived before the rest of my party and the restaurant was pretty empty with a lot of open tables. I asked the hostess for a table for 5 because one of my friends is 6’5” and with all the food on the table it would be a bit cramped. She said no and she gave me a table for 4. When my friend and his wife arrived I again asked her if I could have a table for 5. She said no,”she would be fired”. The 2 five seater tables were never used nor was anyone seated while we we there and we were there for 2 hours. They even broke the table down and removed all the settings. I guess it really isn’t about satisfying the customer. Instead it’s the potential customer that might walk in. Unfortunately, on this night, that customer never came through the door and that’s why I have taken the time to write this review. Our waiter was new but he was nice. We were not advised or the nightly specials. Additionally, I felt he could’ve followed up a bit more. The complete deal breaker for this night was, there was no bread pudding. What a disappointment. I rant and rave about the bread pudding. If I had known I would’ve celebrated elsewhere and came back another night. I live in Broward and don’t mind making the drive down to one of my most favorite restaurants.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the ambient temperature was uncomfortable. All these are first for me. I don’t think we got a $400...
Read moreI have always heard of Captain’s Tavern. But never had the pleasure of dining at the establishment. I know the place has been there forever so it’s not my desire to completely shatter them as a restaurant, however... Let me start by saying the ambiance is nice, rather low key. The decorations are dated, the server was amazing, and the service as a whole was great. On the contrary the food was without doubt the worst I have ever had in my entire life!!!! My wife ordered at my request a pan seared halibut with fennel and asparagus. What she got was what appeared to be a broiled piece of fish lying in a Luke warm bath of some kind of buttery lemon wine sauce. I ordered the smoked fish dip as an appetizer it wasn’t terrible but certainly not anything to write home about, the meal I ate or should say choked down was a filet with Florida lobster tail. The steak was horrifyingly terrible not medium rare as requested more on the medium side, it tasted more like an old bland chunk of cardboard! The lobster tail if I could brag was edible. The best dish we had there was the side of French fries. But reliving the experience and the $200.00 price of the dinner I would of opted to go...
