There were four of us dining in for dinner. The restaurant only has about three tables inside—not much in the way of atmosphere, but it’s clean and tidy. The food was good, and the portions were generous!
I had the Huarache al Pastor. It was a little burnt around the edges, but with a bit of sour cream, it was super delicious. I only ate half and boxed the rest because it's quite large. I paired it with a Jarritos lime drink.
My girlfriend had an enchilada dish with steak and avocado. My uncle’s girlfriend went with vegetarian enchiladas with cheese and avocado, and my uncle ordered a steak Huarache. He got his usual, which they consider spicy. It had a nice kick—not overwhelming, just a little heat. I went with mild since it was my first time there, and while it had good flavor, there was zero zing to it.
Prices are reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. We saw a steady stream of people picking up to-go orders. The menu is huge—almost overwhelming. I was hesitant to order something too deep into the menu because places that try to do too much often don’t do it well. That said, overall, I’d...
Read moreFor months after moving from North Carolina I had been searching for traditional authentic Mexican food that didn't involve burritos or an Americanized menu. I had to try out a few places by trial and error. Most of the suggestions I received were for gourmet style Mexican food than traditional Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, gourmet Mexican cuisine is delicious, but there is nothing like the traditional stuff.
Then I found this place. A hole in the wall restaurant that's family owned, and let me tell you that it's hands down the best Mexican food I've had in a very long time. The carne asada is paired with traditional Mexican rice, beans, and a spicy pepper. The Huaraches are a must try but be warned that they are spicy so be ready to be sweating. If you aren't sure what a Huarache is think about an oval shaped large tortilla. Then topped off with various toppings depending on what you choose it with. In my case was the carne asada, because who doesn't love carne asada?
This is a must try if you're a local. Be forewarned though, that this isn't Besito out in Tampa or Casita Taqueria. However, it's just ...
Read moreI drive by this place all the time as I live nearby. I finally had a chance to visit for lunch and was a blown away by how fresh and authentic things were. I ordered the chips with salsa and guac, along with an order of tostada's. You can mix and match the 3 tostada's, I went with chicken and beef. When everything came out, the chips were freshly fried tortillas, a little salt would've helped but no big deal. The salsa was very good and had a toasted flavor with fresh tomatoes, cilantro and onion on top. The guacamole was a tad plain and could use some of the same freshly cut veggies. The chicken tostada looked a bit dry at first, but upon biting into the tostada it was very good. I normally like chicken better, but the beef was the highlight of my dish. It was flavored well and cooked right.
Service was attentive and kind. Many locals visiting were mixed with a lot of other Mexicans coming in to eat as well. Overall I enjoyed my lunch and will definitely be...
