A bit disappointed on how the communication was done for this company and ultimately pushed me towards another direction. They would not take a phone call with me to discuss the cake I wanted. I was willing to pay the up to 300$ price for a heart shaped cake but no phone call or anything except email made me a bit uneasy especially if I’m paying around 300$. While I understand needing everything in writing, there could have easily been a recap with me confirming the details in an email after or I could have sent the recap email—as I suggested in the email and she passively said no. Over all, she has good reviews but I, personally, couldn’t just order my elopement cake without getting to know my baker.

Response TO OWNERS RESPONSE: Yes there was one email. You are correct because of your delivery. You said you’d only take emails for the design of the cake and no phone call. How am I suppose to get to know my baker or get ideas for the cake? Especially when paying that much? There wasn’t even an intro call. I work with business for, also for years, in my profession— I know how a recap email works and it could have worked fine in this senario as well. You didn’t want to meet me in the middle, and that’s fine. It just means you weren’t the person I wanted to business with and I wasn’t the client for you— and I’m sure there are other individuals in the world that would agree not talking to someone who’s asking for money from you with a deposit but won’t speak to you over the phone sounds a little funny. I would say your business style does not agree with what I’ve learned over the years but like I said we don’t have to work together and that’s fine too.

Extremely disappointed I was never even able to try the cakes here. I was trying to order a cake for a birthday party and reached out via their website. I was sent an email where it seemed to me that the owner was insistent on deciding the design prior to sending an invoice. After a total of six emails (three from her and three from me), which I actually apologized for because I felt like I wasn’t communicating what I wanted effectively and I know time is money, I guess she decided that it was taking too long and I needed to pay a non-refundable retainer. This I was actually fine with because the party wasn’t until April and I was in no rush to finalize the design. I requested an invoice with estimates for the features of the cake we previously discussed prior to paying the retainer. Simple enough request right? The owner flat out refused and told me to “check their website” for base prices, which does not include estimates for anything beyond the “base price”. Essentially, you pay a non-refundable retainer and then they can charge you anything they want and there is nothing you can do about it. When checking the reviews deciding to pay it or not, others stated they experienced the same thing and actually paid this company and then were quoted a price over budget. Like I stated, I completely understand they are running a business and they don’t want to waste their time but collecting retainers without providing proper written explanation of pricing or how particular additions can change that price, is a complete violation of consumer protections. Wandering Whisk Bakeshop is hands down the best bakeshop in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. My husband and I chose Jennifer Jacobs from Wandering Whisk Bakeshop to supply all the desserts at our wedding and we were blown away. Jennifer sat down with us and allowed us to taste several dessert options, and even helped us create a special treat for our guest that she doesn't typically do. We are also a high maintenance couple and required gluten-free desserts and she happily catered to our needs without hesitation. We were able to order the most delicious Chai Cake with a Brown Butter Buttercream for our wedding, a large selection of macarons and a peanut butter chocolate mousse dessert as well. Everything she makes is amazing, and after just one bite its easy to see why. We will continue to rely on Jennifer to supply all of our dessert needs throughout the year.
