'21/9 1st time customer/review: -- Over the week, had passed by this small, fast-casual restaurant a handful of times seeing it was hoppin', but not too crowded. And, the plastic baskets with colorful paper-liner were stuffed full of meat, coleslaw, french fry goodness. -- This visit met our expectations. Decent portions, meaty ribs, tender shredded pork, fall off the bone chicken. -- The Killer Garlic Fries were amazing. Definitely a sharable basket. Onion rings on the menu as well. -- Well made, crunchy coleslaw. Menu states "B.K.'s Coleslaw" tops the Shredded Pork sandwich (though was in cup on side). Menu states "Coleslaw" as Sides choice, but appears one in the same. -- Sorry greens fans, the only greens offered on the menu ia a Green Salad...besides Fried Green Tomatoes "when available" (but wasn't available our late Sunday evening dinner...nor was the ranch dressing they said "ran out of.") -- Corn Muffin with Honey Butter (small, unassuming--came with BBQ Sampler platter). [Hum, dunno if they actually sell large square Cornbread that's listed under the Sides menu.] -- 4 types of Mo's BBQ sauce is available at condiments station as well as for sale in bottles/jugs for take home: classic, spicy, mustard, and _. -- Self-serve soda fountain. -- Tight, limited seating inside, and only two 2-person tables outside. Bright point is they're only 30 or so yards from the cement public tables on the Pismo Beach Boardwalk (which has formal beach access too). -- Yes, good place bring children (if seating available). Would be difficult to navigate a full-sized stroller or wheelchair through the establishment. Yes high chairs. -- Parking: about that. Good luck. Shop is on small, main street just before boardwalk. Be prepared to park-n-walk. Parking is paid during the day (they push using mobile app, dunno other payment options at individual...

Is there an award for the best garlic parmesan fries? I'm sure there is. Mo's BBQ has awards on the wall from 1997 through 2007, for various items. My eyesight was not good enough to read each category, but if they didn't win an award for their fries, they should have. These were the most well seasoned garlic fries I have ever had. The fries themselves could have been cooked a tad shorter as they were slightly over cooked, but that was diminished by the overall flavor, and generous portion size. Staff was helpful and pleasant, and there was no charge for a side of ranch +1. Food came fairly quickly with plenty of cooks and servers. There's ample seating inside a well decorated shop, with license plates and photos of BBQ joints all over the South adorning the wall. Four different BBQ flavors which all tasted unique to this establishment are available for dipping, or smothering, which ever you prefer. Regular, Hot, Sweet Carolinas, and Philthy Phil's are the choices, and a mixture of Sweet Carolinas and Philthy Phil's make a very good sauce. If they had won awards for their tri-tip, I wonder if something had changed since 2007. The tri-tip was good, but no better than average. A little on the tougher side, it is what would be expected from a quick cook. Overall this BBQ joint was a fine stop, prices were good, portions were ample, and the fries were really good. No matter what you get, you'll be happy...

UPDATE! The owner reached out to me and is handling the situation below. Much respect to her for rectifying this bad behavior.

Very disappointed in this establishment. The food was decent, I'm talking about the staff. When we got there, there was a short, stocky Mexican guy outside with a pitcher of beer(il get back to this guy). We walked in and the girl behind the counter was obviously having a bad day. Rude and unhelpful. We got our food, ate and went to refill our drinks to leave. As I was filling my drink, the guy from outside walked to the back and refilled his mug with beer(now we assume he owns the place or at least works there). He drank part of it then walks to the girl at the counter and tells her to give him a to-go cup... he proceeds to poor the beer into the cup, then puts ice in it and walks out. My husband and I leave and witness this guy drink more of the beer, and get into his Camery and drive away... we couldn't believe it. We immediately called the cops with this information. Hopefully the cops caught him and he didn't...

Mo’s Smokehouse BBQ is hands down one of the best BBQ spots I’ve ever been to! Located right in the heart of Pismo Beach, this place knows how to deliver unforgettable flavors. The pork baby back ribs are absolutely phenomenal—perfectly tender, smoky, and fall-off-the-bone delicious. You can tell they’ve mastered the art of BBQ. The Tri-tip sandwich is equally amazing, packed with juicy, flavorful meat and served on a soft, fresh bun. It’s the kind of sandwich that leaves you craving more with every bite. Don’t skip the garlic fries—they’re the perfect crispy, garlicky sidekick to round out your meal. Everything on the menu feels like it’s made with care and a true passion for BBQ. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. If you’re in Pismo Beach and love BBQ, Mo’s is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!
