Update: In 11/2023 I visited the Pittsburg Ca location (normally I leave Pittsburg to go to the Antioch Ca Buritto spot, which is amazing!) This was my first visit to this location in Pittsburg the service and food was horrible. I posted a negative review on yelp with a photo, reporting that they burned 5 rolled tacos. Welp today on 4/2/25, again, I'm tired so rather than waist the 16 mi round-trip to Antioch's California Burrito, I came back here. I am giving this place a 2nd chance.
I was hoping "at least no burned rolled tacos like last time". But this time it was worse. I found PIECES OF TOOTHPICK OR SOME SORT OF WOOD IN MY ROLLED TACO. Imagine biting and chewing on wood?!? Imagine you paid over $10 to chew on wood. I'm so grossed out. I just have to wonder what did I swallow before I found the wood? What the hell is going on in their kitchen for this to happen?
Rather than go directly to yelp, I called 1st to give them a chance to explain and make this right. But all I got was a series of beeps, as if it was a fax number, that they put on the receipt! So, I m left with the choice of driving back 8 mile round trip in order to even let them know this happened or yelp. I probably will drive back when it is convenient for me (I am working now), but since they can't be bothered to make food for humans or to be reachable via phone, I think I should start with yelp.
I will no longer lower my standards and even attempt to give this place a 3rd chance. Trust me, you should not give them a chance either. They just don't care about quality. Possibly they'll care more when the county, Contra Costa Health, gets involved!
As of 4/16/25, I went there now 2 times & spoke to an asst mgr 1 time trying to see how they want to resolve. They promised me 2 times the owner/mgr would call me- I received no call...
Read moreWe had such high expectations for California Burrito because its menu reminded us of our favorite Mexican food items from San Diego. Unfortunately the food did not. I ordered an $8.50 carne asada burrito and 3 rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese for $5.25. Like San Diego, I appreciate that California Burrito did not put rice and beans in its burrito. Regrettably, the burrito also lacked carne asada. The burrito fell flat and could have doubled as a decent rolled taco. Not much to it! The rolled tacos were a joke. First, almost no meat and the meat detected was like a thin meat stick. Also, "where's the guacamole"? Hell, "where's the beef"? California Burrito is a hike to get to from Walnut Creek. Given our disappointment I don't see us traveling the distance to be disappointed again. The best I can rate California Burrito from this experience is 3 stars. That is being overly generous. Still hunting a location that serves Southern California Mexican food. Did not find it at...
