Unimpressive - Par for the course in Pittsburgh. 1st, they have a peculiar mechanism where you fill out a slip, then pay, and then take that slip over to get your food. Is that supposed to be trendy, or just shift from work behind the counter back to the customer? So I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and of course, paid before I actually saw what I was getting. The bagels come out of a bag. a BAG. for what they're charging for a bagel they can order some proper bagels from an actual baker to be delivered to them every day. bagged bagels are just cheap and lazy. Then there's the cream cheese - or lack thereof. I'm pretty sure I watched him put on the cream cheese, but between the tiny amount of cream cheese that they scrape onto the pathetic round piece of bread from a bag, or the heat from the toasting, it's completely disappeared by the time you sit down to eat the thing. I know these places have staff costs, and overhead, plus rent, but come on. Don't be so freaking cheap. Order decent bagels, and use more cream cheese. about an ounce and a half is appropriate on a bagel with nothing else. What's a wholesale fresh bagel cost, 50 cents? I know I can get a brick of cream cheese for 2 bucks or less, and you can get 5 1/3 1.5 ounce portions per brick. That's less than 90 cents for bagel. Even with your overhead you'll still make a profit on a bagel with cream cheese that you're selling for 2.66. I'd say go to the bagel store a few blocks away, but the service is so horribly slow that it might take you an hour. Again, this is par for Pittsburgh so I'm at least giving them 3 stars. in NYC it would be zero. consider...
Read moreCorner Mercantile is a great market place with a lot of variety. It's the place to go downtown if you want to grab something quick for breakfast or lunch, but still made well with local ingredients. Located right in the middle of downtown off from Market Square, this spot features a variety of delicious, handmade sandwiches, entrees, soups, salads, sides, and coffee (hot and cold brew) that rotate daily. They have a delicious bourbon cold brew that's like nothing I've ever had before. The space is organized well so you won't wait longer than a couple minutes to get your food and be on your way. I recently got to meet the chef and staff at a Yelp Elite event, they were so passionate and friendly. Once you try the Corner Mercantile, it will be a strong contender to be my new go-to lunch spot downtown. The only thing is you'll have a hard time deciding what to order with so many...
Read moreSo I go to this place a lot. Like maybe 2-4 times a month. I really like how convenient this place is and the food is really interesting. I have never had a bad sandwich here. I have tried several but usually go with turkey or chicken if that is an option. Chicken salad is also great. Their salmon filets are my favorite. My usual pairing with the salmon is the gouda pasta salad. That stuff is soooo good. My sister loves their quiche.
One side I am not a fan of is the broccoli salad. It is the only thing I have had here that I dont love. They have their own fruit/herb infused water which I like and they have a lot of drink choices.
They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options so this is a great place to grab something if you are looking for that. I also really enjoy their salmon thai salad with...
