This small deli at the end of Atwood Street in Oakland is hands down the best deli you will find yourself returning to again and again. The classic Chicken and Steak is a go to afternoon meal of mine for the past couple of years. Everyone who works here is attentive. They just do it quick and do it right. Had to buy some of their signature chipotle sauce (which goes on everything) and you'll see me out and about with my frenchi's hat on, always spreading the word. The food will remind you to return, but what really drags you back is the atmosphere. You walk in and the energy is great. I hear it is open until 5 am on weekends but I like to go in the day during the week. Never any long lines during this time. Bring Cash. They do not accept card or apple pay, nothing like that. cold hard cash only. It's simple. It's a great way to stop for lunch or after-work meal. For me, A frenchi's trip takes me away from anything else going on. Can't...
Read moreI connected with Frenchi himself through social media who invited me down to the deli to try a sandwich. As someone who is very particular about food, it was incredibly jarring when we met in person at his establishment, he jumped behind the deli counter and started preparing me a wrap without asking me what type of sandwich I wanted.
Frenchi said with the utmost confidence “try this for me. I know you’ll like it, you’ll definitely be back!” Nervously I went along with the demonstration thinking I would politely take a bite or two and save it for later wink wink
Y’all I burned the roof of my mouth trying to devour this wrap in the car. Brilliantly crafted, quality meat, and outstanding customer service. Frenchi was such a kind man and you can taste the joy in the things he creates. Hands down one of the best spots Oakland has to offer! A true one stop shop! I’m already plotting on...
Read moreThe night workers are less than accommodating. I was told I wasn’t allowed to open the icecream refrigerator or walk over there, that usually the workers will grab what you ask for..the fridge wasn’t stocked so you could see the labels, the products were thrown all over and toppled onto eachother, it was a mess. Which I was cool with if I could look through to see what everything was..me not having my glasses and bad eyesight was unable to purchase what I wanted as I turned around and the worker placed a stand in front of the fridge door and was being rude the whole time..could be homophobia, could just be a lack of service knowledge, who knows, but trying to support local business from an already overpriced corner store should never be that difficult. Sad as I’m new to the area and this experience...
