My husband and I have decided to take trips to visit all of the MLB stadiums - sort of a married couple bucket list. Lookong up local game day rituals, we saw that Mike's was a spot for fans to go to prior to the Pirates games. We both love beer and some good bar food so we decided to check it out. I'm the type of person who does a lot of pre-planning before we go somewhere, so when reviewing Mike's, I didn't see that you needed to make reservations. Maybe I completely missed it, or it's just something they do on game day, but we were surprised when we walked up and we were told that it was a 45-minute wait at 330. Game didn't start until 640, so it was no problem waiting. Once seated, it took about 10 minutes for someone to come over to take our drink order. The staff was wonderful, but I feel they could have had more help on the floor grabbing orders. Again, the game didn't start until 6:40. So we had no problem being patient and waiting for someone to come around. Tried a local lager and was pleasantly surprised! Food was very good, too! My husband got the steak on a stone and I got a burger. Will definitely come back if we're in town again.

Updated for 2024 - Do you like trying new and different beers? Do you attend Pirates games? If you answered yes to these questions, this is the place for you. We come to Pittsburgh from Harrisburg once or twice a year to catch a game or two. I have been coming to the bar at this location for years, no matter who has owned it. It is my go to before a game. I have a few here and then I don't feel any desire to pay for the overpriced beer in PNC park. The selection is awesome and you can try things you would never even see at most distributors. I have even found a few that my beer hating wife would drink. Since it became Mike's and part of the North Shore Tavern family, they have added food. Everyone should try the "Steak on a Stone." For an experience, it was pretty cool (or hot if you want to talk about the 800 degree stone). Last year my steak was under seasoned. This year they added a Delmonico steak so I decided to try again. This was the best steak I have had since a trip to Ruth's Chris several years ago. Perfectly seasoned, juicy and so damned enjoyable. Keep on keeping on. I will be back.

I got a turkey wrap coleslaw and crab dip appetizer. To say it was awful would be a dramatic understatement. There was paper in my wrap like a lot of paper probably a 3 x 5 piece of delicatessen paper I did not see it at first I thought it was a pepper stem because there were a lot of peppers so I ate two nice size bites of paper before I spit it out and unfolded the paper. I showed the server and he took it back do the head chef and they would take it off my bill and asked if I wanted anything else. I said no because my tooth hurts from the paper and I feel like I'm going to be sick. So they gave me the check. My son who eats anything did not eat his lamb cheesesteak sandwich he said it was not very good. ( It was cooked with a million jalapeno peppers more jalapeno peppers than meat)The crab dip was ok at best and tasted like hot mayonnaise with crab they still charged full price even though all the food was still on the table we did not get boxes we just left it because it was bad.

When you look up dog friendly places on the internet, Mike's Beer Bar shows up as one of the options. The first time I had thought about going there, I called to make sure that my dog as allowed, and they excitingly said yes. I am one of those people that gets my dog a grilled chicken breast every time she comes out to eat with me. The first 4 times that I brought my dog to Mike's Beer Bar, there was no problem. I then take her today and order her a grilled chicken breast (and I state that it is for her). They bring the chicken in a little black bowl (like they have in the past) and my dog eats it. I am sitting there enjoying my burger when a server (who is not even mine) comes up and says "ummmm ma'am your dog cannot be eating off of our plates." I follow up with ohhh I have brought her here many a time and no one has said anything about it. She then repeats herself and I again say that no one has told me that this is an issue before. She then states well just for next time know that she cannot be eating off of our plates. Meanwhile she is currently drinking water from one of their bowls? This immediately turned my vibe off as I wanted to have a nice lunch with my dog before I went into work to get her out of the house. If you are not going to be fully dog friendly then you should not post that you are dog friendly at all. I think if the server would have approached me in a more kind manner I would not have this bad taste in my mouth, but she was not very kind. As soon as this happened, my actual server came over to check on how everything was and I immediately asked for a box and the check as I simply just did not want to be there anymore. I did not ask for a manager as I just wanted to leave but as I think about it now I wish I would have. So heads up, if you plan on bringing your dog and want them to eat, bring...

As a visitor of Pittsburgh I was looking forward to a great Pirates game, stopped at Mikes for some drinks as I heard some good reviews. My party and I had one of the most racist and worst experiences at Mikes on 8/24/24 around 5-6:30pm. Not only was the blonde girl at the bar rude she ignored my boyfriend who was there first before anyone trying to order us all drinks and she managed to serve 7 people in front of us. Anytime we spoke up she would put her head down like we didn’t exist. We had to ask a random server for service since she wouldn’t look him in the eyes, he apologized for us waiting almost 20 minutes and gave great service. The atmosphere was good but that’s the only thing I can compliment. When leaving I walked out the door and got pushed by a brunette employee and yelled at rudely to move out her way. Our party of four has never felt so uncomfortable in an establishment. The racism and treatment was eye opening enough to tell anyone to not go here. I will be calling corporate to report this racist and uncalled for behavior. If you look different than anyone in that bar please think twice before coming here this may not be the best or safest atmosphere for you. It’s very sad that they have people representing this establishment that don’t know how to behave. Please do better for the sake of everyone...
