New China Inn — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

I ordered the PuPu Platter for 2 (which comes in 2 containers, 1 for each person) and wonton soup. It was exactly as expected the prices are in line with the quality. They don't do anything above & beyond but it is good. Nothing was over cooked or tasted oily as PuPu Platters can at other restaurants because most of the items are appetizers and fried i.e. egg roll, wonton, crab rangoon etc. the sauce on the spare rib and beef teriyaki were standard, everything was cooked perfectly. They provided utensils and plenty of soy sauce, duck and hot sauce without having to request it. They only received 4 of 5 stars because I do agree with a few reviews about the delivery drivers not wanting to get out of the car. I ordered lunch at work which is in Central Oakland on Craig street. The driver called & said she was here. I looked in my buildings hallway & didn't see her. She claimed there was no where to park, in less than a minute I came to the front door and saw that was not true because I watched her pull up directly in front of the building. I made no attempt to walk toward her car based on principle & it was also raining. She ran the food up to me in the doorway. I have trouble believing at small restaurants as this one the delivery fee isn't structured into their pay unlike a corporate chain i.e. Domino's. I am all for tipping for service but it is reasonably unfair to pay a delivery fee and tip if the person isn't bringing the food to you as directed. I would order again but probably chose to tip in cash dependent on service vrs in advance as I did...

I think the food is great! The service is good. I don’t know why people are complaining about it. Yes, the girl doesn’t smile or talk a lot. But do you expect her to? As someone who grew up with Chinese parents and worked at a small family business and I can tell she’s working for her family. I asked her and she said she’s in 10th grade. This kid is still in tenth grade while carrying this job. And she probably doesn’t get paid because it’s a family business. If you guys think your life is so hard because a waiter didn’t greet you with a smile then leave. Honestly, she does what she needs to do. She just asked me for my order and gave me my order. No problems. She does her job. 🤷🏻‍♀️Anyways, loved the food! They also have many choices! There’s a lot of vegetarian...

If you look through these reviews you see a mixed bag. So I decided to go ahead and give this a shot and see what it was like. I ordered late at night, And I ordered the double cooked pork, and the seafood and rice. I thought everything was good. This is inexpensive Chinese which is pretty Americanized but that doesn’t make it bad. I got my order fast, and just for the record, some of the folks who decided not to tip at all in a poor few reviews I wouldn’t blame somebody who drove out to bring me food being upset about that. Anyway, it was good. And big servings, fresh all in all I was pleased especially since I ordered an hour before...
