Pamela's Diner is a reliable place for a good brunch (and other meals). Their hotcakes are unique, being like something between crepes or pancakes, and are big, fluffy, soft, and that melts in the mouth with or without butter and syrup. As far as I know, they do not take reservations, but only allow walk-ins. When you arrive, go up to their front counter and let them know how many people are in your party. Note that their policy is that every member of a party has to be present in person to be seated once a table opens up. The atmosphere is nearly always vibrant because the place is often full of students from the nearby colleges having a good time (see photos). It can mean a long wait queuing (15 to 30 minutes?) outside at peak times. The decor is bright and cheerful with lots of amusing things like old board games displayed on the walls. Parking is available on the surrounding streets and charged by time via city meters. Street parking in Pittsburgh is free on Sundays and certain public holidays. Paid parking in nearby commercial garages are always available.

I am usually not the one for breakfast, but I had a really early class and I was extremely hungry, so I decided to come here. of course, this is a famed spot in pittsburgh, but unfortunately, I never got around to trying it. I got the hot cakes which they are known for with some eggs, sausage and bacon. Hot cakes are a baby of crepes and pancakes if I had to describe it. my friend got the chorizo hash with some eggs and toast. Honestly, everything tasted really good. The food itself is quite simple, but it is done well. My eggs were running as I liked them, and the hot cakes were pretty tasty as well. Also, the quantity of food and portion sizes are quite big. We were struggling to finish our meals. The ambience is that of a diner and even on weekdays, if you go during prime breakfast time, expect to have a wait time. If you’re looking for hearty rustic breakfast, I would definitely recommend this place, but don’t expect anything gourmet or very nuanced flavours. The wait staff were attentive to our needs and provided good service.

I loved Pamela’s as a Pitt student in the late 90s, and I still love it today nearly 20 years later. The decor has changed to a retro 60s vibe with paintings of famous rock stars long gone and the walls are decked out in classic board games, many of which I remember playing as kid. This particular location is a bit cramped and fills up quick, but the staff is very friendly, quick and efficient at moving diners through without making one feel rushed. The food is always excellent. IMO this is still the BEST BREAKFAST IN PITTSBURGH! Sadly, their prices have slowly crept up over the years and I think they’re getting to a tipping point. $9.25 for an omelet, taters and toast is steep. However, their crepe style pancakes are the best! Love the crispy edges around the dense but soft and buttery cake center. You cannot get a better pancake anywhere else. It has always been cash only, so come prepared.

I was very excited to come and try Pamelas, and honestly I left disappointed and VERY irritated. There was no consistency in plates, the staff was not customer focused, and it was very crowded. I ordered crepes because the girl next to me had them and they looked delicious. My crepes came out with horrible presentation compared to the other girls and had a pancake consistency rather than a crepe. The staff was kinda rude and more focused on getting things done and slapping people into seats and rushing around that it lacked customer appeal, to me, as a server myself. I was told that I should stop looking at the menu even though I already ordered because I was going to "confuse" the servers and distract them. You could tell no one had assigned sections, servers were grabbing whatever orders they could get. They were cleaning and taking tips off the table before you had a chance to put your jacket on. Finally, the atmosphere had the ambience of a typical breakfast place like DeLuca' s with the retro style and quirkiness. However, it was extremely loud and crowded. My table was not even a foot away from the tables on both sides of me and it was awkward to have a conversation and keep a focus on your date when you have someone else sitting RIGHT beside you. I had a server almost elbow me in the face trying to grab plates off of a table next to me, and when she slid in between the tables to talk to them her butt touched my table's surface. Overall, it was noisy, crowded, disappointing, and lacked quality customer service. And, it was way more expensive than any other breakfast place ringing up to 30 dollars for two people. Go to DeLucas's or Panera or literally anywhere else. The only thing this place has is good location (for college students to get breakfast after a night...

A Pittsburgh institution with a warm and welcoming atmosphere

Pamela's Diner is a Pittsburgh institution that has been serving up delicious food and friendly service for over 50 years. The diner is located in the Strip District, a historic neighborhood that is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars.

Pamela's Diner is known for its large portions and its creative menu. The diner offers a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, including pancakes, waffles, omelets, burgers, and sandwiches. The diner also has a full bar, which offers a variety of beers, wines, and cocktails.

The atmosphere at Pamela's Diner is warm and welcoming. The diner is decorated in a classic diner style, with checkered floors, red booths, and chrome tables. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to make recommendations.

I had the pleasure of dining at Pamela's Diner recently, and I was very impressed with the food and service. I started my meal with the pancakes, which were light and fluffy. For my main course, I had the steak and eggs, which was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. I finished my meal with the French toast, which was also delicious.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Pamela's Diner. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend Pamela's Diner to anyone visiting Pittsburgh.

Went to Pamela’s diner on Oakland for the first time today. Got the strawberry hotcakes and asked the waitress if I could have a side of egg whites, since the menu had egg whites listed under “extras” but not eggs. She said yes and asked if two were okay, and I said yes. The food came out super fast, and was delicious! I was all set to recommend this place to everyone, and return soon myself. However, when the check came, I had been charged $3.50 for “two eggs” and then $1.50 for “egg whites”. I was confused as to why I was charged $5 for a side of two egg whites, so I flagged down the waitress. She acted as though I was dumb and did not understand how to read the menu, and said that they don’t do sides of eggs, so she had to put it in that way in the register. I asked her why she say yes uncontested to a side of eggs if they don’t do them, and why they’re on the menu as extras, and she once again suggested I was the one that was incorrect, that there’s “nothing she can do” even though she entered the order in. I have never had an experience like this with any service, and this definitely put me off from Pamela’s diner. Friends I was with also were frustrated with the waitress, because they almost asked for a side of egg whites themselves based on the menu. It’s a shame, because the food was amazing! I just am not sure I can forgive...
