I’m a first timer here and absolutely loved my dinner experience tonight. Such a lovely staff who clearly has a great deal of pride in the food, from guidance offered while ordering to the beautiful presentation to checking in frequently that we were happy with everything.
The inside seating here is beautiful, especially the interesting architectural ceiling, but if it’s summer go for the outdoor patio. It’s really lovely. The menu is lengthy and clearly labeled with gluten-free, vegetarian and spice level options. No guesswork which is really nice.
We were quickly brought our drinks and appetizer. We went for the beautiful and fresh summer roll, which is both GF and vegetarian. My friend ordered the Thai iced tea which I am also partial too, so I decided to try something different. Torn between purple lemonade and lemongrass blue tea, both of which included butterfly pea flower, our server advised that the lemonade was sweeter and the tea would give me the option to adjust the sweetness level myself. It was a delicious choice even without any sweetener, though I did opt to add some honey from the variety of sweeteners they brought.
For our entrées, my friend got the duck curry, which had the interesting addition of pineapple, and I got a stirfry with eggplant and tofu. Both included white rice on the side. We both enjoyed our dishes. My friend ate her full dish, which was a good amount of food but reasonable as much of it was the broth. My stirfry veggies and tofu were abundant and filling with very little broth, and I ended up bringing about half home.
We really wanted to try some dessert and we couldn’t decide between the mango sticky rice and the coconut ice cream special, so of course we got both. The mango sticky rice was good, a nice taste and texture. But the coconut ice cream also had sticky rice underneath which made the mango dessert a bit redundant. If you’re going to go for one, I would recommend the ice cream which is really delicious and not always available.
We had a wonderful meal here and I was excited to be introduced to such a lovely local...
Read moreStopped here for dinner after a gathering in the park at the intersection of Washington & Allegheny River Blvd. on a whim. Was not sure what to expect. We found a clean, quiet place with a pleasant atmosphere in a place where one might not expect it. I ordered a seafood dish, my wife chose tofu. First, I was impressed with the amount of seafood that went into their seafood mix. While it wasn't an overwhelming amount of seafood, the amount of scallops, shrimp, and calamari was well balanced with the vegetables and sauce. Too many restaurants skimp on the seafood while increasing the vegetables and/or noodles in the dish to save money. That's not something you find here. They do not skimp on the protein when you order it. My wife found the same with her tofu dish, and the ingredients tasted both high-quality and fresh. The only disappointment for us was the spice palate. While it was excellently blended, and complimented the dish well, I felt that the overall heat in the spice levels of our dishes was made to a level that the white yinzers that we looked and sounded like, who believe jalapenos have a spicy kick to them are the end-all-be-all of "spicy", and not spicy to the level of people who have eaten spicy food in places throughout the globe, including Bangkok. If we're not sweating, we're not eating, and while their spice palate got my nose running, I was not sweating in a way I associate with spicy Thai food. That one small detail aside, the food was excellent, and tasted great, the wait staff was pleasant and attentive, and the food was well prepared. I think I've found a new spot for Thai food. Would...
Read moreMy friends and I got food here for takeout, specially because one friend is gluten free.
When we picked up the food, the gluten-free friend felt concerned by the look of the food (which looked dark with soy.) I don’t know a lot about this but apparently soy contains gluten, which is why she has to be careful where she eats Asian food. Anyhow, she took the food back in to make sure it was made gluten free and the lady she talked to didn’t seem sure but brushed her off with “yeah, I mean, it looks like it should be.” That said, my friend didn’t feel very reassured.
I got Pad Thai with Chicken ($19). Normally I get broccoli, but the up charge for “additional vegetables” is $4. No thank you. This is already too much for Pad Thai, in my opinion, especially when you consider how not good it was.
The Paid Thai was so greasy. So greasy. The box that was like a waxed cardboard was practically see-through. The dish had no color at all. That made me nervous. I can say it was the worst, most flavorless Pad Thai I’ve ever eaten. The chicken almost tasted like it was rotisserie chicken thrown in as an afterthought? It was smoky and weird and didn’t taste like Thai food/seasonings at all.
Nobody enjoyed their food, though. Everyone was sort of “meh” about it, so it wasn’t just me. We all agreed we probably wouldn’t order from there again. If we did, we’d have to veer from our favorites and try something new. I say, for that price, we can get better Thai food practically anywhere else.
I see it is much loved on here, but that wasn’t our...
